Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

North Carolina State Wolfpack vs North Carolina Tar Heels

The North Carolina Tar Heels return to Kenan Memorial Stadium for the regular season finale as they will welcome in their in-state rivals in the NC State Wolfpack in an ACC clash, the opening kickoff is slated for 12:20 PM. The Tar Heels will be looking to regroup next year with a talented roster while NC State is still fighting to secure the best bowl possible.

North Carolina State Wolfpack's Latest Performance :

The NC State Wolfpack expected to see themselves at the top of the ACC Atlantic division with their high powered offense and although they have lost a few games in ACC play they still sit in good position to possibly steal a New Years Six bid. The Wolfpack are coming off a big win on the road against Louisville as they were able to flex their muscles on both sides of the ball and destroy the Cardinals 52-10. The Wolfpack are led by redshirt senior Ryan Finley who has been the face of the offense for the last few years and nothing changed against Louisville as he was able to rack up 316 yards and 4 TDs to push his season total to 3180 yards, 21 TDs, and 7 interceptions. The ground game hasn’t looked too bad considering they lost 2 NFL RBs last season as Reggie Gallaspy ran for 73 yards and a TD on 11 carries. Gallaspy won’t hit the 1000-yard mark in this air raid offense but 665 yards and 11 TDs is a solid secondary option for the Wolfpack. Possible first round pick WR Kelvin Harmon was able to show NFL scouts what the hype about as he brought down 7 catches for 100 yards and a TD while his partner Jakobi Meyers had 96 yards and a TD on 7 catches. This has been one of the deadliest WR duos in the country as Harmon has cracked the 1000-yard mark with 1065 yards and 6 TDs while Meyers sits at 754 yards and 3 TDs. The defense for the Wolfpack has been fairly good for Dave Doeren and we saw that on display last outing as Tanner Ingle led the way with 7 tackles while redshirt junior DB Jarius Morehead came down with his 2nd interception of the season.

North Carolina Tar Heels's Latest Performance :

The North Carolina Tar Heels have not matched their talent level with results as they will miss out on the postseason for a 2nd consecutive season under Larry Fedora. The Tar Heels were able to add to their small win total by stomping over FCS foe in the Western Carolina Catamounts by a score of 49-26. The Tar Heels have been forced to stick with junior QB Nathan Elliot due to injuries at that position and he showed his inconsistencies even against a lower tier team as he threw for 308 yards and 2 TDs but was also picked off 2 times as well. This has been the season story for Elliot as he currently has 11 TDs but sits close by in the turnover department with 9 interceptions. The ground attack has been the one bright spot for the Tar Heels and we saw that once again in this game as freshmen RB Javonte Williams ran for 93 yards and 3 TDs on 17 carries and Jordan Brown sat behind him with 79 yards and a TD. Although this wasn’t a great opponent Javonte Williams showed what he can bring to the table for the Tar Heels moving forward as he entered their previous game with only 48 yards and a TD. The Tar Heels top pass catcher was able to show his worth in this matchup as junior WR Anthony Ratliff-Williams racked up 84 yards on 4 catches. The defense has been a big question mark all season for the Tar Heels and there is no doubt that they looked questionable against an FCS team as they gave up 26 points. Freshmen DB Trey Morrison led the way for this unit as he racked up 7 tackles and a sack.

Against The Spread Selection: NC State Wolfpack -7

My reason for the pick :

This is a fairly low spread for two teams who have been complete opposites this season as I think NC State will steamroll over the Tar Heels on the road by double-digits. The Tar Heels defense has looked questionable against everyone and the Wolfpack offense is high flying with weapons at every position so expect Finley to expose matchups down the field and have a solid ground game to compliment him. On the other side of the ball NC State is solid against the run which is the one area that the Tar Heels look decent at on offense so expect that to be shut down. The Tar Heels have nothing to play for while NC State is trying to earn a better position in the postseason. Take the Wolfpack on the road.
