Michigan Wolverines vs Ohio State Buckeyes

The Ohio State Buckeyes return home to Ohio Stadium for the regular season finale as they will welcome in the Michigan Wolverines for a Big Ten clash, the opening kickoff is at 12:00 PM. The winner of this matchup will represent the Big Ten East in the Big Ten Championship game against Northwestern and have a clear-cut path to the College Football Playoff.

Michigan Wolverines's Latest Performance :

Michigan found themselves down against Indiana early on in the game but the Wolverines were able to rally together and beat the Indiana Hoosiers 31-20 at home on senior day. Junior QB Shea Patterson continued showing his dual-threat abilities by throwing for 250 yards, 1 TD, and 1 interception while also adding in 68 yards on 9 carries. The turnover for Patterson is a rare occasion as the former 5-star recruit has thrown only 4 interceptions on the season compared to 18 TDs. Patterson was able to spread the ball around to a ton of different playmakers as 11 guys recorded a pass in this matchup. The TEs were able to have a big game for the Wolverines as Zach Gentry and Nick Eubanks had 3 catches for 124 yards and 1 TD. The Wolverines top WR Donovan Peoples-Jones was kept fairly silent in this matchup by the Hoosiers secondary as the sophomore was kept to only 30 yards on 2 catches. The ground game for the Wolverines was effective as always as they received a solid game out of Karan Higdon as he was able to rush for 101 yards and a TD on 21 carries. Higdon has been excellent all season long for the Wolverines as the senior has run for 1106 yards and 11 TDs. The Michigan defense has been one of the best units in the country all season long but letting up 20 points to the Hoosiers isn’t the worse thing they endured this weekend as DE Chase Winovich went down with an upper-body injury. LB Devin Bush Jr. had a big game for the Wolverines as he was able to rack up 11 tackles to give him a team-high 60 tackles on the season while DL Rashan Gary had 9 tackles while racking up 1.5 sacks.

Ohio State Buckeyes's Latest Performance :

The Ohio State Buckeyes were caught looking ahead to this matchup last week as they were put on the ropes against the Maryland Terrapins as they were taken to overtime where they won on a failed 2 point conversion, 52-51. The Buckeyes had a hot day on offense which was led by sophomore QB Dwayne Haskins who put up Heisman Trophy worthy numbers. Haskins threw for 405 yards and 3 TDs while also adding in another element to his game as he rushed for 59 yards and 3 TDs. Haskins has been the reason behind the Buckeyes success this season as he has thrown for 3685 yards, 36 TDs, and 7 interceptions in what is only his 1st season as the starting QB. The Buckeyes were without RB Mike Weber against Maryland but J.K. Dobbins shouldered the load as he was able to rush 203 yards and a TD on 37 carries. The sophomore RB has been stellar all season as he sits just shy of the 1000-yard mark on the season with 915 yards and 8 TDs. Haskins was able to receive a big game out of two different WRs as Terry McLaurin had 4 catches for 118 yards and a TD while Johnnie Dixon contributed 6 catches for 102 yards. The top 2 WRs for the Buckeyes were kept fairly silent as Parris Campbell and K.J. Hill were held to only 57 yards and a TD, they have combined for 1483 yards and 14 TDs on the season. The defense was unable to make many stops against Maryland as they let an average offense put up 51 points against them. LB Tuf Borland had the biggest game out of any Buckeye defender as he was able to rack up a team-high 8 tackles which puts the sophomore at 48 tackles on the season.

Against The Spread Selection: Michigan Wolverines -4

My reason for the pick :

The Michigan Wolverines have been excellent all season long and have not played a truly close game since they lost the opening game against Notre Dame. Ohio State is coming off a hard-fought loss against the Maryland Terrapins as their defense showed little to no life which won’t fly against the top 25 Michigan offense. The difference in this matchup is the Wolverines defense as they are way better than the Ohio State unit and if they can stop the high-powered offense a handful of times with a strong ground attack from their offense they will walk out of here with a win. The Wolverines will use Patterson and Higdon all game long and run the ball down a team who let Maryland RB Anthony McFarland run for 300 yards. Pick Michigan to win on the road.
