Texas Tech Red Raiders vs Baylor Bears
The Baylor Bears return home to McLane Stadium for the regular season finale as they will welcome in the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a Big 12 clash, the opening kickoff is slated for 12:00 PM. The winner of this matchup will become bowl eligible while the loser will be eliminated from postseason contention.
Texas Tech Red Raiders's Latest Performance :
The Texas Tech Red Raiders looked like a possible sleeper in the Big 12 at the midway point of the season but they have not played up to expectations as of recent as they have lost 4 straight games and now need to win their final game to become bowl eligible. The once explosive Texas Tech offense looked lost last week against Kansas State as they were only able to score 6 points against an average defense. 3rd string QB Jett Duffey has been leading this team the last couple of weeks and he didn’t have his best game last week as he only threw for 150 yards and an interception. The one problem for Duffey this season has been his turnovers as he has thrown 8 TDs to 6 interceptions. The ground game was non-existent against Kansas State as RB Da’Leon Ward was bottled up for 34 yards on 10 carries and top RB Ta’Zhawn Henry had only 1 carry for -5 yards. The Red Raiders top WR Antoine Wesley was held in check last week as he was held to only 28 yards on 6 catches which slows his track to 1500 yards as he currently sits at 1375 yards and 9 TDs. T.J. Vasher was the top playmaker for the Red Raiders as he was able to bring down 6 catches for 69 yards. The defense has not looked the same since their captain Dakota Allen went down with an injury. Riko Jeffers led the way for the Red Raiders with 11 tackles while Adrian Frye racked down the lone interception of the game.
Baylor Bears's Latest Performance :
The Baylor Bears had the chance to get their 6th win last week at home against the TCU Horned Frogs but they were outdueled in a defensive battle as the final score was 16-9. The Baylor Bears looked incompetent on the offensive side of the ball especially after the 1st quarter as they were only able to score 3 more points in the remaining 3 quarters. QB Charlie Brewer struggled to make much of an impact through the air as he was only able to throw for 163 yards with an interception but all things considered, he made it work on the ground as he rushed for 54 yards and a TD. The sophomore has thrown for 2327 yards, 14 TDs, and 7 interceptions on the season and he also leads the team in rushing TDs with 5. The Bears leading rusher was unable to break through against TCU as John Lovett was held to only 55 yards on 11 carries. Former Tennessee Volunteer RB Jalen Hurd has looked comfortable at the WR position in the Baylor offense and he was one of the only guys to have a good game against TCU. Hurd was able to rack up 68 yards on 4 catches which puts the senior just shy of 1000 yards on the season with 905 yards and 4 TDs. The Baylor defense played well enough to keep their team in the game as they held the Horned Frogs to only 16 points. LB Clay Johnston had a productive game as he led the team with 15 tackles which gives him 83 tackles on the season, also a team high.

My reason for the pick :
This should be a similar game to last week for both teams as I think the defenses will step up in this matchup as it is a Big 12 rivalry matchup with bowl game implications on the line. I will be backing the Baylor Bears during senior day as they have shown the ability to play defense over the last few weeks and given the state of the Texas Tech offense last week I simply can’t trust them to win by a TD on the road. Charlie Brewer has been decent through the air but I think he makes his biggest impact with his feet in this matchup as he can pull a defender down into the box to spy him and open more lanes to throw in. Take the Bears at home.
