Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Fresno State Bulldogs vs Boise State Broncos

The Fresno State Bulldogs will travel to Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho, to battle the Boise State Broncos on Saturday night at 7:45 p.m. Eastern Standard Time for the Mountain West Championship. The Fresno State Bulldogs have had a spectacular season, yet are coming off of a 24-17 road loss to the Broncos at Albertsons Stadium on November 9th. With that being the case, look for the Bulldogs to come into this game with a chip on their shoulder in  which to get an all-important win.  Nonetheless, Fresno State will certainly have to contain an offense  for Boise State that has  seemed to have awoken out of its slumber as they have averaged 38 points per game in their last two matchups while also beating up on a high-scoring Utah State Aggie squad in their last outing by a 33-24 score. Brett Rypien passed for 300 yards in this matchup while Alexander Madison was the player of the game as he racked up 200 yards on the night along with three scores.

On the other hand, the Fresno State Bulldogs also ended the season by winning two straight games as they took out the San Jose State Spartans at home in their last outing by a 31-13 score as Marcus McMaryion passed for 317 yards and two TD’s in the victory for a Fresno State football team that has maintained its consistency on the offensive end in being ranked in the top 25 of teams in the nation in total yards per game. In all, the under has been the result in five of the last six games at Albertson’s Stadium amongst these two squads.

Fresno State Bulldogs's Latest Performance :

Fresno State possesses the 23rd ranked passing attack in the nation behind Marcus McMaryion  who has thrown for over 3,000 yards on the season while having a touchdown interception ratio of 24 – 3. In the last outing for Fresno State versus the San Jose State Spartans, Mcmaryion added another 317 yards to his total for the season along with two touchdown passes to their leading receiver in Keesean Johnson along with Ronnie Rivers, who leads the team in touchdowns in 2018 with 10 total. This type of offensive punch has been the norm for a Fresno State team that, despite his battles throughout the season, have remained consistent throughout the year while picking up wins in the meantime.

The defense for Fresno State is the true tip of the spear for the team as they are not only ranked in the top 40 in every major defensive category, but, are ranked in the top 20 in total points allowed per game with 13.5 along with total passing yards allowed in addition to total yards allowed, altogether. With that being the case, Fresno State has allowed it opponents to only score an average of 10 points per game in their last eight outings. In all, expect this to be a battle throughout as the Bulldogs will certainly like to exact a healthy amount of revenge on the Broncos for a loss earlier in the season.

Boise State Broncos's Latest Performance :

Despite the season that the Aggies of Utah State have had, the Boise State Broncos were favored by two and a half points entering their matchup with Utah State last weekend. When it was all said and done, the Broncos certainly proved to themselves, once again, that they can truly hang with some of the best teams in the country as they allowed the Aggies to rush for only 62 yards on the night.

And while Jordan love was able to throw three touchdown passes for over 300 yards passing on the day, Brett Rypien also threw for over 300 yards in the contest as well while the rushing attack for Boise State was allowed to rush for a total of 199 yards on the day with Andre Madison leading the way. Mattison leads the team in rushing with over 1200 yards along with being the touchdown leader with 17 for the season for Boise State;  On the other hand, Rypien has also been a force under center for the Broncos this season as he has racked up over 3,500 yards passing on the year while having a 70% or better completion percentage in three of his last four games to end the season. In all, the offense for the Broncos is certainly clicking on all cylinders at this point in the season as they will certainly enter this game with confidence both offensively and defensively.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will certainly be an interesting Mountain West Championship as you have a Fresno State Bulldogs team that would love to end their season on an outstanding note in whipping up on a Boise State Broncos team on their own blue turf;  However, the Broncos enter this game with a healthy amount of confidence and momentum of their own after not only finishing the season strong and winning 7 straight games, but, also whipping up on the Utah State Aggies in their season finale last weekend as well. In all, look for this to be an exciting matchup throughout as the Fresno State defense will attempt to assert itself versus a Boise State offense that can indeed be very dangerous.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Fresno State Bulldogs +2.5

My reason for the pick :

While I expect the Boise State Broncos to play well in this contest, I also expect Fresno State to come out with a vengeance as well as they get their second crack at attempting to overtake the Boise State Broncos in an all important contest. Of course, this game will be very competitive throughout, however, I feel as if Fresno State has the type of defense that can potentially neutralize Boise State for much of the game. With that being the case, the often inconsistent Fresno State offense will certainly need to put some scores on the board versus a defensive front for Boise State that has been very solid to in the season. Nonetheless, expect the Bulldogs to cover the small points in this matchup as they will keep this game competitive throughout while possibly  having the opportunity to win outright.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

I will pick the under in this matchup in that you have two solid defenses that will be looking to seriously slow down two potentially dangerous offenses in this matchup on Saturday night. I happen to believe that the defenses will certainly fit the bill as they will take center stage in what will be a low-scoring and competitive matchup. Finally, the under has not only been the result in the last four games for each of these teams, but, also the play in the last matchup amongst these teams earlier in the season as well.
