Wake Forest Demon Deacons's Latest Performance :

Wake Forest needed the 12th game of the season to become bowl eligible as they were able to roll over their in-state rival in the Duke Blue Devils on the road 59-7. Redshirt sophomore QB Julian Newman has been wonderful ever since he was inserted into the starting lineup a few weeks back and we saw him act as a huge difference maker against the Blue Devils. Newman was able to connect on 18 of his 23 attempts for a total of 177 yards and 4 TDs, Newman also showed the ability to run as he gained 50 rushing yards. Newman has only started in 5 games this season but he has put together a stat line of 755 passing yards, 8 TDs, and 3 interceptions while also picking up 156 rushing yards and a TD. RB Cade Carney took over full responsibilities as the starter after Matt Colburn has been out with an injury. Carney shredded the Blue Devil defense for 223 rushing yards and 2 TDs which gives the junior 954 rushing yards and 8 TDs on the season. Newman has a ton of playmakers to work with on the outside and we saw All-American Greg Dortch have one of the best games of the season. Dortch was able to record 10 receptions for a total of 124 yards and a TD which put him over the 1000-yard mark on the season with 1078 receiving yards and 8 TDs. The Wake Forest defense has played inspired ever since they let Syracuse score 41 points a few weeks back. DJ Taylor put together a nice game with 5 tackles while Willie Yarbary was able to record 2 sacks against the Blue Devils.

Memphis Tigers's Latest Performance :

The Memphis Tigers were staring their 1st conference championship since 2014 right in the face as they brought a 38-21 lead into halftime against the 8th ranked UCF Knights but they let the high-powered Knight back into the game and eventually fell 56-41. QB Brady White has done a good job replacing Riley Henderson but he was unable to get much going in this game. White was only able to connect for 178 yards and an interception while adding just 28 yards on the ground. White enters this bowl game with 3125 passing yards, 25 TDs, and 8 interceptions which has been a difference maker when teams key in on the dangerous ground game for the Tigers. RB Darnell Henderson had a huge game for Memphis as he was able to record 210 rushing yards and 3 TDs on 16 carries, Henderson is one of the top in the nation as he has compiled over 1909 rushing yards and 22 TDs. The ground game doesn’t stop at Henderson though as backup RB Patrick Taylor is also a 1000-yard rusher with 1012 rushing yards and 15 TDs on the season, Taylor rushed for 118 yards and a TD against UCF. The Tigers WRs were unable to get much generated against the Knights as TE Joey Magnifico was the lone pass catcher to go over 50 yards with a 54 yard performance. The defense was unable to hold the 2nd string QB of UCF in check as he racked up 4 rushing TDs while throwing for 2 more. LB Curtis Atkins led the way with 14 tackles while O’Bryan Goodson racked up the lone sack of the game.

Against The Spread Selection: Wake Forest Demon Deacons +4

My reason for the pick :

If you like points this will be a fun matchup for you as both teams easily have the ability to put up 50+ points but the difference in this matchup is the fact that Wake Forest has played better defense over the recent weeks. Both teams have really good RBs but the Tigers will be playing without their star Darnell Henderson as he has declared for the draft which is a major hit to Memphis. This comes down to who has a better QB and after Brady White laid a dud last weekend I have to believe that Julian Newman can outscore the former Arizona State QB. This game will be close throughout but Wake Forest is better prepared after playing tough ACC teams all season long. They have been different since the NC State upset on the road. Ride with Wake Forest, sprinkle some money on ML as well.
