Florida Gators vs Michigan Wolverines

The Michigan Wolverines and Florida Gators are set to meet in the Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, the opening kickoff is slated for 12:00 PM. Florida put together a nice season under 1st-year coach Dan Mullen as they finished 9-3 while Michigan started the season off with a bang but wound up not even making the Big Ten Championship.

Florida Gators 's Latest Performance :

The Michigan Wolverines controlled their own destiny heading into the final game of the season as a win would have put them in the Big Ten Championship as well as most likely landed them in the College Football Playoffs. The Wolverines were unable to meet expectations on the road as they got steamrolled by their rivals in the Ohio State Buckeyes 62-39. QB Shea Patterson has been a difference maker for this team all season as his dual-threat capabilities have turned loose the offense. Patterson was unable to have a huge game against the Buckeyes as he only threw for 187 yards but he was able to connect on 3 TDs and only 1 interception. Patterson was banged up in the Ohio State game with a knee injury but the former 5-star recruit should be good to go against Florida which is big considering he has thrown for 2364 yards, 21 TDs, and only 5 interceptions. The ground game featured a 1000-yard rusher in Karan Higdon as he has rushed for 1178 yards and 10 TDs but the senior has elected to sit out the bowl game and prepare for the NFL draft. The Wolverines will be forced to turn to junior Chris Evans who has rushed for 403 yards and 4 TDs in limited action. Patterson was able to find success with his top target Nico Collins as the duo connected for 91 yards and 2 TDs which puts the sophomore WR at 552 yards and 6 TDs. The Wolverines defense has been one of the top units in football this season but they were unable to stop the red-hot Ohio State offense. The defense will be without two major contributors as Rashan Gary (6.5 TFL and 3.5 sacks) and Devin Bush (66 tackles, 8.5 TFL, and 4.5 sacks) have elected to sit out for the NFL draft.

Michigan Wolverines's Latest Performance :

The Florida Gators look like they are back on the right path under Dan Mullen as they won 9 games after only going 4-7 in 2017, and they finally broke a dreaded record against their rivals. The Gators were able to break their losing streak with the Florida State Seminoles this season as they won 41-14 on the road. QB Feleipe Franks has turned around his slow start to his college career with a revival this season and he showed that against Florida State as he threw for 254 yards and 3 TDs. Franks has turned himself into a dual-threat under Mullen as the redshirt sophomore has compiled 2284 passing yards, 23 TDs, and 6 interceptions while also adding in 276 rushing yards and 6 TDs. The ground game has been better in the new offensive scheme as they have a pair of 700-yard rushers this season. Lamical Perine found more success against the Seminoles as he rushed for 129 yards and a TD on 13 carries while Jordan Scarlett was also able to reach the end zone with an 88-yard performance. No RB has truly separated himself this season as Perine has gained 750 yards and 6 TDs while Scarlett has gained 717 yards and 4 TDs. Franks and the talented Gators WR were able to break through for some big plays against the Seminoles as they torched the talented secondary. WR Trevon Grimes had a huge outing as he was able to rack up 116 yards and a TD on 5 receptions while Van Jefferson had 4 receptions for 92 yards and a TD. The defense has continued their success from years past as they have been a stingy group and they flustered the FSU offense. Potential 1st-round pick Jachai Polite had a stellar game with 6 tackles and 2.5 sacks while Trey Dean and Donovan Stiner recorded interceptions.

My reason for the pick :

This line hasn’t moved too much ever since Gary, Higdon, and Bush all decided they want to sit out for the NFL draft which surprises me considering they are 3 of the most important pieces on this team. The Florida Gators are motivated coming into this game as they want to continue making an impression on college football fans for years to come. The Gators aren’t much worse than Michigan in most of the major statistical categories which tells me this game should be close. QB Shea Patterson is banged up and I think it will limit his dual-threat capabilities in this game which will allow Florida to focus on the passing game. I am riding with the Gators in this matchup as they should keep this game close.
