Indianapolis Colts vs Houston Texans
The Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans are set to start the NFL playoffs with an AFC Wild Card Clash at NRG Stadium, the opening kickoff is slated for 4:35 PM. The Texans won the AFC South but still claimed the #3 seed while the Colts clinched the 6th seed with a win over the Tennessee Titans in week 17.
These two teams have met two times this season and they have split the series 1-1.
Indianapolis Colts's Latest Performance :
After taking a short break from the postseason the Indianapolis Colts have responded with a playoff berth under 1st-year coach Frank Reich and look like one of the more dangerous teams in the AFC. The Colts used a week 17 win over their divisional rivals in the Tennessee Titans to solidify their playoff spot as they played well in all 3 facets of the game. QB Andrew Luck is a frontrunner for Most Improved Player and we saw him continue his season of dominance with a 285-yard performance where he threw 3 TDs compared to only 1 interception. Luck will need to post a similar stat line in the playoffs if they want a shot at being a Cinderella as the former Stanford product has thrown for 4593 yards, 39 TDs, and 15 interceptions. The ground game has improved vastly in the Reich era and we saw them play well against the Titans as Marlon Mack ran for 119 yards and a TD, Mack enters the postseason just shy of 1000-yards as he has compiled 908 and 9 TDs. Luck has been accustomed to hooking up with T.Y. Hilton and Eric Ebron all season and although they had a good game (6 catches for 121 yards and a TD) Dontrelle Inman had a big performance with 5 receptions for 77 yards and a TD. Ebron has been a big red zone threat for the Colts with 13 TDs while Hilton has been a big playmaker with 1270 yards. The defense has improved this year and we saw them play well against the Titans on the road. ROY Candidate Darius Leonard played lights out as he recorded 8 tackles and an interception while Kenny Moore recorded an interception in the backend.
Houston Texans's Latest Performance :
The Houston Texans were able to return back to the top of the AFC South after missing the playoffs in 2017 and they are looking to make some noise now that their team is healthy once again. The Texans were able to end the season with a bang as their defense held the Jacksonville Jaguars to 3 points while the offense looked solid against a good defense. QB Deshaun Watson has been a huge reason behind the team’s success this season and he showcased his abilities against the Jaguars as he threw for 234 yards while also adding in a team-high 66 rushing yards and a TD. Watson is one of the most dangerous dual-threat QBs in the NFL and reasonably so as he has thrown for 4165 yards, 26 TDs, 9 interceptions, and 551 rushing yards with 5 TDs in that category. Watson makes up for the lack of ground attack for the Texans as they have yet been able to find an identity in that part of the offense. RB Lamar Miller has been the starter all season long and he will fall just short of the 1000-yard mark after he ran for 56 yards and a TD against the Jaguars, Miller enters the postseason with 973 rushing yards and 5 TDs. With the loss of WR Demaryius Thomas to a season-ending injury, Watson only has one true WR1 caliber playmaker and that is DeAndre Hopkins. The former Clemson products were able to keep their connection rolling against the Jaguars as they hooked up for 12 receptions for a total of 147 yards. Hopkins hasn’t only been one of the top WRs on the team but he has asserted himself as one of the top in the league after a 1572-yard campaign. The defense was once again stellar in this matchup in all facets of the game as they held Jacksonville to minimal yards and points. DE J.J. Watt has continued to terrorize opposing teams QBs as the veteran compiled 1.5 sacks against the Jags while safety Andre Hal recorded the lone interception of the game.

My reason for the pick :
These two teams are awfully familiar with each other as this will be their 3rd matchup of the year and overall Indianapolis has looked like the better team all season long despite the amazing Texans win streak they put together. The Colts offense is humming on all cylinders right now and Andrew Luck is overall a better QB than Houston and we will see him show up in the biggest game for the Colts franchise over the last 5 or so years. The Colts defense has improved this year and we have seen Houston struggle with pass blocking which could be a problem against Darius Leonard and company. The Colts showed the ability to run the ball last week and they will make that a point of emphasis in this game as it opened up the playbook for Luck. Take the points and sprinkle some cash on ML.
