Detroit Lions vs Oakland Raiders
The Oakland Raiders play host to the Detroit Lions for a preseason opener on Friday night at the famous Oakland Colesium. These two teams don’t possess much history having only clashed during the regular season six times since 1990.
Both teams have looked solid in the preseason with a healthy Derek Carr and a sharp Matthew Stafford leading their squads. The Raiders kick off the season with a new head coach in Jon “Chucky” Gruden who hasn’t walked an NFL sideline in 10 years.
Detroit Lions's Latest Performance :
The Detroit Lions finished the season 9-7 and could stand for some improvements on both sides of the ball this season. Matt Stafford is healthy and has looked very sharp in training camp. New head coach Matt Patricia should be a solid addition to this team who has seen several standouts in training camp. Most notably Miles Killebrew who has seen some reps with the first team at linebacker. Another positive has been the presence of defensive end Ezekiel Ansah coming off of the PUP list and saw light individual practice this week.
Oakland Raiders's Latest Performance :
The Oakland Raiders were on a roll last year before QB Derek Carr was sidelined. The silver and black attack are back with Coach Jon Gruden trolling the sidelines like a caged animal. He’ll have Carr firing on all cylinders and a defense sure to be a menace to opposing quarterbacks. Defensive end Khalil Mack is still holding out while waiting on a new contract. The Raiders will need him on the field come the regular season to complete the defense.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Overall, this should be a fun match-up. Both teams have a lot of kinks to work out and a couple of new head coaches who desperately need to see their teams in action. Expect to see less of Stafford and a lot more of capable backup Jake Rudock. On the other side of the ball, both defenses have looked good according to reports out of both training camps and should probably be the bright spot of this game which would be good news considering their woes last season.
