Tennessee Titans vs Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers are set to open week 1 of the preseason with a home game at storied Lambeau Field as they will host the Tennessee Titans in what is an AFC-NFC crossover matchup, the opening kick is slated for 8:00 PM. Tennessee was able to make the playoffs and even win their first postseason matchup since 2002 while the Packers missed out on the postseason due to injuries.
Tennessee Titans's Latest Performance :
2017 was a distortions year for the Green Bay Packers as they were ridiculed by the injury bug which led them to a 7-9 record and a missed playoff appearance, something the Packers haven’t witnessed since 2008. Aaron Rodgers is a franchise changing player but his broken collarbone last season is what contributed to the Packers missing the playoffs as they had to give the ball to a 2nd-year QB Brett Hundley. Hundley never put up the 300+ yard numbers that Rodgers consistently put up as the former UCLA QB only threw for 1,836 yards and 9 TDs compared to 12 interceptions. The Packers have built their team around Rodgers which consist of an abundance of pass catchers which was apparent last season as Green Bay only had 1 running back crack the 500-yard mark. Jamaal Williams rushed for 556 yards and 4 TDs last year and the rookie was also a factor in the passing game as he was able to rack up 262 yards through the air. Aaron Rodgers will return his top 2 WRs from last season in Randall Cobb and Davante Adams as the combination was able to compile 1,538 yards and 14 TDs with a backup QB. The Packers were able to add to the depth of their pass catchers with the signing of TE Jimmy Graham who has posted 69 TDs in 8 seasons with stints in New Orleans and Seattle. The defense was a mess for the Packers last season as they ranked 26th in points allowed but management may have done enough this past offseason to improve this sluggish unit. Green Bay used their first two picks of the draft on two lockdown corners as they got Jaire Alexander from Louisville with their 1st round pick and then former All-American Josh Jackson in the 2nd round. Ha-Ha Clinton Dix will round out the secondary from the safety spot as the former Alabama DB is coming off a solid season where he compiled 65 tackles and 3 interceptions. The middle of the defense has one of the best unknown LBs in the NFL as Blake Martinez led this team with 94 tackles and 8 pass deflections in what was only his 2nd season. The Packers will need to find a filler for Jake Ryan who tore his ACL during camp which is a big loss considering the 26-year-old contributed 50 tackles a season ago. The 3-4 scheme benefits pas rushers like Clay Matthews and Nick Perry as the duo was able to cause havoc on opposing QBs with 14.5 sacks.
Green Bay Packers's Latest Performance :
The Tennessee Titans were able to make the playoff last year as one of the two Wildcards and they made a run of their own as they advanced to the AFC divisional round where they eventually fell to the New England Patriots and even though they made the postseason for the first time since 2008 they are taking a new direction with Mike Vrabel taking over the reigns. The Titans have the 2014 Heisman trophy winner commanding their offense but Marcus Mariotta failed to play like a top player as the former Oregon Duck threw 15 interceptions compared to 13 TDs and only ran for 312 yards, something he bases his game on. Last year the Titans had two running backs who shared snaps but this year we should only see Derrick Henry hog the ball as Demarco Murray made the ultimate decision to retire. Derrick Henry was the Heisman trophy winner in 2015 out of Alabama and the bruising 247 pound back played like that last year as he averaged 4.2 YPC and racked up 5 TDs. Tennessee elected to replace Murray with Dion Lewis who was sensational with the Patriots last season (896 yards), expect Lewis to be a 3rd down back. The Titans have one of the best TE’s in the NFL in Delanie Walker and the 34-year-old gave Marietta a safety valve last season as he compiled a team-high 807 yards. Walker is joined by Rishard Matthews who was able to supplement the TE with 795 yards and a team-high 4 TD receptions. The defense will benefit the most under Mike Vrabel as he wasn’t only successful with the Houston Texans as a defensive coordinator but also as a player with the New England Patriots. Wesley Woodyard is going on year #11 in the NFL but that hasn’t stopped the middle linebacker as he was one of the best in the league last year with 81 tackles and 5 sacks. Vrabel was able to bring in his defensive mindset in this past NFL draft as he used his first-round pick on Alabama OLB Rashaan Evans who should thrive in Vrabel’s defense. The secondary is commanded by one of the best young safeties in the game in Kevin Byard and the 25-year-old showed that last season as he contributed 62 tackles and an NFL-high in interceptions with 8. The corners were even younger as they averaged 24 years old last year with rookie Adoree Jackson racking up 61 tackles and a team-high 17 pass deflections. Derrick Morgan and Brian Orakpo combined for 14.5 sacks last year from the OLB spot and the pass rush should be even better with the addition of Harold Landry who fell to the 2nd-round after a successful career at Boston College.

My reason for the pick :
It is only August so we won’t see the tortuous climate we have been accustomed to seeing at Lambeau Field but I can guarantee you playing at home is enough of an advantage for Green Bay as the cheese heads should be fired up. Green Bay won’t play Aaron Rodgers for obvious reasons but the backup position is up for grabs between Brett Hundley who played meaningful NFL snaps last year and DeShone Kiser who was an absolute mess in Cleveland last season but still has potential. We will get to see the young corners for Green Bay lock down the Tennesee WRs who already lack much depth as is. Back Green Bay at home.
