Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Arizona Cardinals vs Los Angeles Rams
The Arizona Cardinals will travel to LA Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California, to take on the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 pm EST in week two NFL action. The last time these two teams met was on December 3, 2017, as the Rams would pick up the 32-16 road win as they would cash in on the spread (-7.5) while the over of 43 was surpassed. The Rams would go to 1-0 on the season as they were victorious on the road versus the Oakland Raiders on Monday night in picking up a 33-13 victory as they would cash in on the spread as 6 point favorites while the under was the play with the total being set at 47.5 points for the game while the Cardinals would suffer a 24-6 home loss in their opener versus the Washington Redskins as they would cover the spread as 2-point home dogs while the total of 43.5 points was not surpassed. The Rams have covered the spread in 2 of the last 3 meetings between these two squads while winning outright in 2 of the last 3 games by a 109-22 score. Finally, the over has been the play in 2 of the last 3 matchups.
Arizona Cardinals's Latest Performance :
Washington would scorch the defensive front for Arizona for 182 yards on the ground allowing with 247 yards in the air while the Cardinals would only obtain 68 yards rushing along with 145 pass yards in their week 1, 24-6 home loss. Larry Fitzgerald would have 76 yards on 7 receptions while David Johnson would rush for 37 yards on 9 attempts and a touchdown in defeat. While the Cardinals may find it tough to rush against the Rams defense which gave up 95 total rush yards to the Raiders on Monday night, they will certainly look to exploit the pass defense for Los Angeles as they would allow 300 yards in the air to Derek Carr and company. Of course, with the Cardinals ranked 29th in both passing and rushing categories, they will certainly look to play an all-around better outing versus the Rams; However, the issue will be getting more out of the QB position in that Sam Bradford needs to play much better than the 145 yards he would finish with in the opener along with cut down on the interceptions as the Rams are only allowing 13 points per game, good for 5th in the league.
Los Angeles Rams 's Latest Performance :
The Rams would break open a tight game at the half to outscore the Raiders 23-0 in the second half thanks to three field goals from Greg Zuerlein along with a passing touchdown from Jared Goff to Cooper Kupp to put the Rams up 20-13 with at the end of the third period. Furthermore, Marcus Peters would return a 50-yard pick six to seal the victory for the road team as the Rams would go to 1-0 on the year thanks to 3 costly interceptions by Derek Carr. Goff, on the other hand, would throw 2 touchdown passes while finishing with 233 yards total in the win while Todd Gurley would pace the rushing attack with 108 yards on 20 carries. Brandin Cooks (5 rec, 87 yds) along with Kupp (5 rec, 52 yds) would pace the receiving corps that would certainly step up at critical moments throughout the game. Gurley would also have a receiving touchdown that would tie the game late in the first period at 7-7. The Rams now turn their attention to a Cardinals defense that would give up 182 yards rushing on the ground to their week one opponent while also allowing 247 yards passing. Gurley will certainly be pivotal in the Rams maintaining their undefeated record on Sunday while Cooks and Kupp will look to improve upon their consistency with Goff in which to exploit what looked like a very shaky secondary for Arizona. The Rams are currently ranked 8th in rushing yards with 140 yards per game while only ranking 25th in passing yards; However, they look to improve in both areas versus the Cardinals who could not move the ball in any way versus the Redskins in week 1.
How Arizona Cardinals & Los Angeles Rams Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Los Angeles is 1-0 ATS while the O/U is 0-1
Arizona is 0-1 ATS while the O/U is 0-1
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Cardinals will certainly need to shore up the inconsistencies at the quarterback position as well as various areas of their offensive/defensive line. With that being said, they will get the chance this week, albeit, against a team that has talent at the skill positions. The Rams will certainly look to take control at the line of scrimmage early in which to allow Gurley to find daylight, thus opening the passing game. The Cardinals will hope to allow Bradford to somehow take advantage of the Rams secondary that performed very lackluster in week 1. In all, this contest will be a chess match for both teams, thus making it a great watch.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Arizona Cardinals +12
My reason for the pick :
I expect the Cardinals to play a much better game than in week 1 as they will certainly look to open things up a bit on offense with the Rams struggling to stop the pass. This, in essence, could mean a big day for Bradford and Fitzgerald on the outside, thus allowing the Cardinals to keep this game well within the huge spread of 12 points. Judging by the way both teams played last week, one could say that this line is justified, however, the actual game will likely be much closer than one would think as Bradford will keep the underdogs close throughout with his ability to pick the Rams defense apart early.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 45.5
My reason for the prediction :
While I expect the Rams to pull out a victory in week 2 versus the Cardinals at home, due to their defensive secondary being destroyed by Carr and his receiving corps in week 1, I expect for Sam Bradford to have a much better outing in this matchup in which to keep this game close. In all, I expect a back and forth game early on where both teams would put some scores on the board with the Rams tightening up its defense late in the game. On the other hand, the Cardinals can expect a huge dose of Gurley and the run game for the Rams in this contest since Arizona had headaches trying to stop the run versus Washington in their last outing. In all, take the over in this matchup as both teams will put points up early while the Rams will take control on the strength of their running game late.
