Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Houston Texans vs Tennessee Titans

The Houston Texans will travel to meet the Tennessee Titans on Sunday afternoon at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, for a week 2 showdown beginning at 1 pm EST.  The Texans would fall on the road to the New England Patriots on opening week by a 27-20 score as they would not cash in on the 6-point spread as underdogs while the under was the play with the total being set at 49.5 points for the game.  The Titans would also take the loss in week one versus the Miami Dolphins by a score of 27-20 on the road as they would also lose out on the spread as 1-point underdogs while the total of 43.5 points being surpassed.  Tennessee would pick up the 24-13 home win over the Texans on December 3, 2017 as they would cash in on the spread as 7-point favorites while the under was the play with the  total being set at 43.5 points for the game.  They would also meet two months prior to this matchup as Houston would blast the Titans at home by a 57-14 score to where they would cover as 2.5-point underdogs while the total of 43 points was surpassed.  Houston has won 3 of the last 5 matchups outright while they would also cover the spread in 3 of the last 5 meetings amongst these two squads.  The over has been the play in 3 of the last 5 contests while the Titans have won 2 of the last 3 games at Nissan Stadium, overall.

Houston Texans's Latest Performance :

The Texans would play well on the road versus the Super Bowl runner up Patriots as they would get a 1-yard touchdown run from Alfred Blue while also getting a 5-yard touchdown strike from Deshaun Watson to Bruce Ellington to tighten the lead to only seven points with 2:08 minutes remaining.  The Patriots would then run out the clock, thus eliminating the threat from Houston while handing them their first loss of the season.  Deshaun Watson would have 176 yards passing for the game along with an interception while Lamar Miller (20 rushes, 98 yds), Watson (8 rushes, 40 yds), along with Alfred Blue (5 rushes, 36 yds) would lead the ground attack which would gain a total of 167 yards rushing.  DeAndre Hopkins and Bruce Ellington would pace the receiving corps with a combined 12 catches for 115 yards for the game.  With that being said, the 4th ranked rushing attack in the league in Houston will face off against a Titans defense that is ranked 20th in the league in allowing 120 rushing yards per game while its 25th ranked passing attack (158 yds per game) will look to make some headway against the 13th ranked pass defense in the NFL in the Titans.  The Texans, however, may be minus Watson as he would suffer a concussion in week 1 and is probable for Sunday’s matchup.  Also, tackle Seantrel Henderson will be lost for the season with an ankle injury.

Tennessee Titans 's Latest Performance :

Despite the Titans scoring 17 points in the fourth quarter in their opener versus the Dolphins, it would be too little to late as they would take the 27-20 road loss.  Nonetheless, thanks to Dion Lewis’s 4-yard run along with a 94-yard kickoff return by Darius Jennings combined with a Ryan Succup field goal which would tighten the game at 27-20 with only :11 seconds left, they were able to keep things close to the end.  The Titans would play both Blaine Gabbert and Marcus Mariota at quarterback as each would go over 100 yards for the game, yet, they would both throw a combined 3 picks in the loss.  Dion Lewis and Derrick Henry would combine for 26 rushes for 101 yards total while the receiving corps was led by Corey Davis (6 rec, 62 yds) and Delanie Walker (4 rec, 52 yds) for a passing attack that racked up 220 total yards in the loss.  Interestingly enough, the offense for the Titans, ranked 20th in passing along with 16th in rushing after opening week, will be facing a Texans squad ranked 23rd in pass and 21st in rush defense, thus signaling that the Titans may be able to utilize Henry and Lewis more effectively in which to have a much better chance at sneaking out a win at home.  The Titans will indeed have some challenges in that their tackle Tyler Lewan is questionable with a concussion while Delanie Walker is on the injured reserve with an ankle injury.  Furthermore, Gabbert may have to go at it alone under center as Mariota is also questionable with an elbow injury.  The good news for the Titans is that defensive end Christian Covington (Questionable-thigh) and cornerback Kevin Johnson (Questionable-concussion) will be a game time decision for the Texans defense.

How Houston Texans & Tennessee Titans Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Titans are 0-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-0

Texans are 0-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-0

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

It just may happen that both Mariotta and Watson would possibly return for this matchup on Sunday.  Nonetheless, while analyzing the game with the information available, this will certainly be a low-scoring and competitive matchup to where both teams will struggle to gain some momentum on offense.  Of course, the defenses should be solid after dismal outings in week 1, however, points win games is the saying, right?  With that being said, I must be honest and say that I feel as though it will be just as interesting to see exactly which team will get to 10 points in this matchup on Sunday afternoon.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Tennessee Titans (off)

My reason for the pick :

With so many key players being game time decisions along with major players that were lost for an indefinite amount of time, this game will be the most difficult to call; Nonetheless, I will back the home team simply because they will have a serviceable quarterback at their disposal.  Combine this with the fact that the defense for the Texans may be without some pivotal pieces in the lineup, I would expect the Titans to take advantage of this in getting their first win of the season.  In all, this game will certainly not be a blowout, as the Titans will do just enough to sneak away with the home win on Sunday afternoon.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under (off)

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the under as a strong play in this contest as I really do not see either team being able to put up many points, despite the opposing defenses not performing up to par in week 1.  One can expect a much better showing this week as each will be looking to take control of the trenches in which to set the tone of the matchup early. With that being said, look for this to be a low-scoring and competitive contest to where the defenses will take center stage as the under will be the play in the end.
