Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Indianapolis Colts vs Washington Redskins
The Colts will travel to FedEx Field in Washington, D.C., for a week 2 NFL showdown with the Washington Redskins on Sunday afternoon beginning at 1 pm EST. The Colts would fall in week 1 at home to the Cincinnati Bengals by a 34-23 score to where they would not cash in on the spread as 1-point home underdogs while the over would be the play with the total being set at 47.5 points. On the other hand, the Redskins would shine against the Arizona Cardinals in a 24-6 road win to which they would cash in on the spread as 2-point road dogs while the under was the play with the total being set at 43.5 points for the game. The last time these two teams met was on November 30, 2014, as the Colts would pick up the 49-27 home win to where they would cover the 7.5 points as a favorite while the over of 48.5 points was surpassed.
Indianapolis Colts's Latest Performance :
The Colts would play well for two quarters versus the Bengals in week one as they were able to take a 16-10 lead at the half, however, they would be outscored 24-7 in the second half. After Andrew Luck would throw a 5-yard TD pass to TY Hilton, his second of the night, to put the Colts up 23-10 early in the third, Andy Dalton would find AJ Green for a 38-yard strike to pull the Bengals within 6 points once again. Joe Mixon would score for the Bengals on a 1-yard touchdown run with 11:07 minutes in the fourth period to put Cincy up 24-23 while Randy Bullock would tack on a field goal to make the score 27-23 in favor of the road team. Cincinnati would seal the victory on an 83-yard fumble return by Clayton Fejedelem capped by a Bullock extra point. Luck would end with 319 yards total while utilizing Jack Doyle, Ryan Grant, Eric Ebron, and TY Hilton in the passing game in defeat. The rushing attack was led by Jordan Wilkins who would rush for 40 yards as the Colts, as a unit, would average a tad over 3 yards per rush for the game. The Colts would fumble once with one being lost that would seal the victory while having 7 penalties for 71 yards total. The Colts will now take their 6th ranked passing game into FedEx Field in hopes of battling a Redskins defense ranked 4th in the NFL in allowing opponents 145 yards per game while also hoping to jump start its running game that is putting up only 75 yards per game, good for 26th in the league. Of course, this will be a difficult task with the Skins only giving up 68 yards rushing per outing.
Washington Redskins's Latest Performance :
The Redskins would dominate in the second period against the Cardinals in week 1 as they would put up 21 points thanks to two Alex Smith touchdowns to Chris Thompson and Jordan Reed along with an Adrian Peterson one-yard TD run to go up 21-0. The Cardinals would only get a two-yard TD run from David Johnson in the fourth as the 2-point conversion would fail in a game to where the victory was already sealed. Smith would end with 255 yards while Adrian Peterson would rush for 96 yards while catching 2 passes for 70 total yards in the win. Chris Thompson would contribute in the air and on the ground with 63 yards on 6 receptions along with 65 yards rushing. Jordan Reed would also have 48 yards and a TD in the victory. The Redskins will look to utilize Peterson on a run defense for the Colts that would fare well againt a Bengals rushing attack in week 1 in only allowing 101 yards on the ground. They will also look to find some creases within a pass defense that allowed 229 yards in the air to Cincy in the opener. This means that Jae Crowder and Jordan Reed must be able to step up even more for a passing attack that is currently putting up 247 yards per game thus far in the season. Washington is currently ranked 15th in the league in scoring offense with 24 points per game and will be facing off with a Colts defense that is allowing 34 points in 2018.
How Indianapolis Colts & Washington Redskins Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Washington is 1-0 ATS while the O/U is 0-1
Indianapolis is 0-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-0
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
I must admit that it would not be uncommon for Luck to complain of soreness in/around his rib area after their loss to the Bengals last week. I mean, Luck’s injury was a type of ailment that will stick with him for quite some time, even after his playing days are well over. Nonetheless, it concerns me that maybe teams are gonna target this area all season long. With that being said, the Skins will do just this in their matchup with Indy this weekend as they will apply pressure early to see just how much he has healed. Needless to say, it will be yet another grueling day at the office for Luck, yet, a win could certainly make things worthwhile, temporarily, at least.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Indianapolis Colts +6
My reason for the pick :
The Redskins are ranked in the top 5 thus far in the NFL in both defensive categories while the Colts have not had much success on the ground with a ranking of 26th along with an average of 75 yards per game; However, Luck and company will look to have some success on Sunday against this Washington D. They certainly let one get away versus the Bengals as they would come out flat after a score early in the third which gave them a commanding lead. Nonetheless, they will look to get much more out of their running game in this outing on Sunday in which to take some pressure off Luck and the passing game while also keeping this game close. I happen to feel that the home team will indeed pull out a win, yet, the Colts will play much better than expected as Luck will continue his dominant season under center while picking apart the defensive secondary for Washington.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 45.5
My reason for the prediction :
The Colts would hold Cincy to 10 points at the half while feeling very good about their chances last weekend; However, would lose the battle in the trenches while allowing the Bengals to take control of the game late. This will not happen in this contest as both offenses will face off against focused defensive units that will look to step up the pressure both on Smith and Luck. With that being said, 45.5 points would be a bit much to expect from these two teams as this will be a low-scoring affair from two teams that will rely on their defensive fronts to take control of this game throughout. In all, take the under in this matchup.
