Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Kansas City Chiefs vs Pittsburgh Steelers

The Kansas City Chiefs will travel to Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to battle the Pittsburgh Steelers in week two NFL action beginning at 1 pm EST.  The last time these two teams met was on October 15, 2017 as the Steelers would get the 19-13 win as they would also cover as 3.5 road underdogs while the under was the play with 46 points being set as the total.  They would follow this up with an 18-16 road win on January 15, 2017 as the Steelers would again cover the spread as 2.5 underdogs while the under was again the play with the total being set at 45.5 points.  The Steelers would get the 21-21 tie versus the Browns in their opener as they would not cover the 3.5 points as favorites while the over was the play with the total being set at 41 points while the Chiefs would pick up a 38-28 road win versus the Los Angeles Chargers in week 1 as they would cover the spread as 3.5 point underdogs while the over was the play with the total being set at 48 points.  It would be important to note that they Steelers have covered in 3 of their last 4 meetings versus these two squads while they have also won outright in 3 of the last 4 overall.  Finally, the under has been the play in 3 of the last 4 matchups.

Kansas City Chiefs's Latest Performance :

The Chiefs would jump out to a 17-6 halftime lead while outscoring the Chargers 21-16 in the second half and, despite the home team scoring 16 points in the fourth period, was able to pull out the 10-point win in opening week.  Patrick Mahomes would connect with three receivers in Tyreek Hill, De’Anthony Thomas, and Anthony Sherman as he would end with four touchdown tosses in the win with a total of 256 yards total.  Hill would also have 169 yards receiving on 7 catches while the rushing attack was led by Kareem Hunt (49 yds, 16 rushes) and Spencer Ware (32 yds, 3 rushes) on a night when the ground attack would rack up 106 yards total.  In all, Kansas City’s 11th ranked passing attack, which is currently averaging 256 yards, will look to find some open spaces against a Steelers defense that allowed only 150 yards in the air to the Browns in week 1, good for 6th in the league.  Furthermore, the Chiefs will also look to get Travis Kelce (1 rec, 6 yds) more involved with the passing attack as well in week 2.  Kansas City’s rushing attack would sputter at times against Los Angeles, yet, will look to exploit the Steelers in the trenches as they would allow 177 yards last weekend against Cleveland.  Look for Hunt and Ware to become a centerpiece for the Chiefs in getting a win in the contest.

Pittsburgh Steelers's Latest Performance :

James Conner would score two touchdowns for the Steelers to allow them to take an early lead against the Browns in week one while Ben Roethlisberger would find Antonio Brown for a 22-yard strike to put the Steelers up 21-7 before the Carlos Hyde and Josh Gordon would score touchdowns for the Browns in which to tie the game, thus ending the scoring for the game.  Ben Roethlisberger would throw three interceptions in the tie while also passing for a total of 335 yards while JuJu smith-Shuster (5 rec, 119 yds), Antonio Brown (9 rec, 93 yds, TD), and Jesse James (3 rec, 60 yds) would pace the receiving corps for Pittsburgh.  They will delight in seeing the Chiefs defense which would allow 418 passing yards to the Chargers in their opener, however, Roethlisberger, it would be important to note, is probable with an elbow injury.  On the other hand, the Chiefs would also give up 123 yards on the ground, good for a 22nd ranking, as the Steelers will look to utilize James Conner, who would rack up 135 yards on 31 rushes in place of Le’Veon Bell, who continues to hold out on his contract negotiations with the team.   The Steelers may have a much rougher go of it as right tackle David DeCastro is also doubtful for Sunday with a hand injury.

How Kansas City Chiefs & Pittsburgh Steelers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Pittsburgh is 0-0-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-0

Kansas City is 1-0 ATS while the O/U is 1-0

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The Steelers would really love to pick up a win on Sunday afternoon after letting a golden opportunity slip away in their tie versus the Browns in week one.  The Chiefs, on the other hand, will look to go into someone’s backyard and steal a win in which to continue their outstanding play thus far.  Of course, Kansas City, after being bullied by Pittsburgh in their last few outings, will also love nothing more than to push around their nemesis in front of their home crowd while picking up a win.  Nonetheless, they will certainly have to work for the victory as Tomlin and the Steelers will certainly bring the focus into this matchup.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Kansas City +5

My reason for the pick :

The Steelers have found their running game with Conner putting up big numbers in the opener.  And while the Chiefs will give up some yards on the ground to the home team on Sunday, the Chiefs also possesses a young and talented signal caller in Mahomes that has a few weapons around him as well that could certainly cause headaches for the Steelers in this matchup.  The Steelers will be without DeCastro at right guard which may definitely impact the overall toughness of the running game, however, Conner will be solid yet again in the game.  In all, look for the Chiefs to play well in this matchup as they possess some talented playmakers on the outside in Hill, Thomas, and Kelce.  With Ware and Hunt providing some ammunition on the ground, the Chiefs may be able to win this game outright.  That is, if they can force Roethlisberger to commit some turnovers.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 52.5

My reason for the prediction :

While the extent of Roethlisberger’s elbow injury is not known, I expect Pittsburgh to ground and pound in this matchup, thus allowing the home team to eat up tons of clock.  Besides, the Chiefs are ranked 22nd in run defense and will certainly be prone to giving up some yards. Nonetheless, the Steelers offense will be limited with a less than 100 percent quarterback along with being without one of their staples up front in DeCastro which leads me to take the under in this contest.  The Steelers defense will attempt to stuff the run game for Kansas City which ranks 20th in the NFL with 106 yards per game, therefore, daring Mahomes and his playmakers to beat them.  This could prove to their detriment considering the passing yards given up to the Browns in week 1.  Nevertheless, look for the Steelers to play much better at home on Sunday as both teams will be limited to a low-scoring affair that will go under the 52.5 mark.
