Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

New England Patriots vs Jacksonville Jaguars

The New England Patriots will travel to TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida, to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 2 of the NFL season on Sunday afternoon at 4:25 pm EST.  The Patriots would pick up a 27-20 home win versus the Houston Texans in the opening week as they would cash in on the spread (-6) while the under was the play with the total being set at 49.5 points for the game.  The Jaguars would go on the road and pick up a 20-15 victory over the NY Giants in week 1 as they would cash in on the spread as 2.5-point favorites while the under was the play with the total being set at 43 points for the game.  The last time these two teams met was on January 21, 2018 as the Pats would get the 24-20 home win while the Jaguars would cover the spread as 7.5 underdogs while the under of 46 was the result as New England would go on to the Super Bowl with the win in what would be the AFC Championship.  The Jaguars will certainly be looking for some payback in this matchup after a momentum-building win in their opener while the Patriots will be looking to extend their winning record to two straight games with a huge road victory.

New England Patriots's Latest Performance :

The Patriots would go up 21-6 at halftime thanks to two Tom Brady passing touchdowns to Rob Gronkowski along with James White, however, would let up a bit in the second half in allowing the Texans to outscore them 14-6 in the second half due to an Alfred Blue 1-yard TD run while Bruce Ellington would make the score 27-20 on a 5-yard pass from Deshaun Watson late in the 4th quarter.  The Patriots would run the time out and seal the victory, nonetheless, and was led by Brady who would pass for 277 yards along with 3 touchdown passes and a pick while Gronkowski along with Phillip Dorsett would each have 7 catches for a combined 189 yards with each having a TD in the win.  Brady and company will now get to face a Jacksonville defense that is allowing only 210 passing yards per game, good for 11th in the league.  Rex Burkhead (18 rush, 55 yds) is currently in concussion protocol, yet, may be cleared to play on Sunday.  If this is the case, he will be called upon the step up in the rushing game, which is currently racking up 122 yards per game, in which to gain some ground on a Jaguars defense that is tough on the run in allowing 114 yards per game.  Jeremy Hill will not be in the lineup due to a knee injury.  Also, Julian Edelman will be serving a 5-game suspension as the passing game will heavily depend upon Gronkowski along with James White to challenge that aggressive defensive secondary for Jacksonville.

Jacksonville Jaguars 's Latest Performance :

The Jaguars would take a 13-6 lead into halftime against the Giants on two Josh Lambo field goals along with a Blake Bortles 1-yard touchdown pass to TJ Yeldon to claim a lead they would never relinquish.  Miles Jack would add to the Jaguars lead as he would return an Eli Manning interception 32-yards in which to put the road team up 20-9 before a Saquan Barkely 68-yard run would make the score 20-15 as the two point conversion would not be successful.  The Jaguars would pound the Giants on the ground in accumulating 167 yards led by Yeldon with 51 yards while Leonard Fournette would have 41 yards total on 9 rushes.  Bortles would finish with 176 yards along with a TD and a pick in the contest as his prime targets would be Keelan Cole (3 rec, 54 yds) along with Dede Westbrook (5 rec, 51 yds).  Jacksonville will look to control the trenches against a Patriots team that allowed 167 yards to the Texans in week 1 as they will definitely get a full dose of Fournette, who is questionable for Sunday’s matchup due to a hamstring injury, and Yeldon throughout the contest while Bortles will look to soften up the defensive secondary for New England that performed well against the past in their opener in giving up only 159 yards total.  In all, for the Jaguars to win this game, they must get their 10th ranked running game going early on a Patriots defense that is allowing 114 yards on the ground to their opponents.

How New England Patriots & Jacksonville Jaguars Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Jaguars are 1-0 ATS while the O/U is 0-1

New England is 1-0 ATS while the O/U is 1-0

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The Patriots will now take their show on the road as the Jaguars await.  Jacksonville gained much momentum last week as they were able to pull out a huge road win over the Giants, however, they must now prepare for Brady and the Pats without their leading rusher in Fournette.  Nonetheless, Yeldon will be available and willing to step up in his absence.  In all, this should be an exciting game as the Pats will battle in a hostile environment in hopes of getting the all-important victory.  The Jags, in much the same fashion, will be looking forward to the challenge of taking out one of the more dominant teams in the league for quite some time.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  New England Patriots -2

My reason for the pick :

The Jaguars offense is successful when they are running the ball effectively and while the Patriots would give up over 100 yards to the Texans in week 1, Fournette, a staple of their rushing attack, will likely not play this week for the home team.  This, of course, will certainly affect how they approach this matchup, altogether, as Bortles will only have Yeldon at his disposal in which to keep the Patriots honest in respecting both the run and the pass.  With that being said, aside from Julian Edelman and Jeremy Hill not being in the lineup, the Pats will have their full compliment of playmakers on offense along with a defense that will look to get after Bortles and company throughout the game.  In all, I expect this to be a tight game, yet, one where the Patriots will grind out a slim victory while covering the small spread on the road to remain undefeated.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 45

My reason for the prediction :

While the patriots will pull out a victory, they will get a workout from a young, aggressive Jaguars defense on Sunday afternoon.  Brady and company will be able to put some scores on the board; however, this game will not be a blowout by any means.  Also, the Jaguars will also keep this game close due to their defense, primarily, yet the home team will also get some opportunities in which to put up some points.  It is for this reason that I will back the under of 45 points in this contest as this will be a defensive minded contest with the Patriots pulling out a close, low-scoring victory on the road.

Betting trends for New England Patriots:

    • Under is 4-0 in Patriots last 4 road games
    • Patriots are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games on grass.

Betting trends for Jacksonville Jaguars :

    • Over is 4-0 in Jaguars last 4 home games vs. a team with a winning road record
    • Over is 4-0 in Jaguars last 4 games in Week 2
    • Jaguars are 1-10 ATS in their last 11 games in Week 2
