Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
New York Giants vs Dallas Cowboys
The New York Giants will visit AT&T Stadium in Irving, Texas, for an NFC East battle versus the Dallas Cowboys in week two NFL action beginning at 8:20 pm EST on Sunday night. The Giants would fall at home to the Jacksonville Jaguars by a 20-15 score in their opener as they would not cash in on the spread as 2.5 home underdogs while the under was the play with the total being set at 43 points for the game. The Dallas Cowboys would fall on the road to the Carolina Panthers by 16-8 score as they would not cash out on the spread as 2.5 road dogs while the under was the play with the total being set at 42.5 points. Dallas would win two of the last three meetings while they would cash in on the spread in two out of the last three games with the under being the play in each game. In their last two games, the Cowboys would win each by a combined score of 49-13 while taking the last meeting at AT&T Stadium by a 19-3 score.
New York Giants's Latest Performance :
Jacksonville would go up 13-6 at halftime on the giants while being outscored 9-7 by the home to en route to a 20-15 road victory in week one. The Giants would get three field goals from Aldrick Rojas while also getting a 68-yard run from rookie Saquan Barkley who would have 106 yards on 18 rushes for the day to lead the rushing attack. Eli Manning would have 224 yards in the air along with a pick six to Miles Jack who would return the interception for 32-yards to put the Jaguars up 20-9 to begin the fourth quarter. Odell Beckham would lead the receiving corps with 111 yards total while Sterling Shepard, who would be probable for Sunday’s game with a back injury, would also have 48 yards on five catches in the loss. Running back Wayne Gallman will also be probable with a knee injury for the Giants, yet, is expected to play. The Giants may indeed get some opportunities to improve upon their passing game that would only put up 138 total yards versus the Jags tough defense as defensive end Demarcus Lawrence will be probable for Sunday’s matchup with a groin injury. It will be interesting to see how the Giants will fare on the ground with Barkley after his stellar performance in week one as he will go up against a Cowboys run defense ranked 27th in the league in allowing 147 yards per game; However, the passing defense for the Boys are ranked 4th in the NFL and will be up for the challenge against a Giants offense that can potentially be without Shepard while being ranked 22nd currently in passing.
Dallas Cowboys's Latest Performance :
The Carolina Panthers would go up 10-0 at the half on the Cowboys in the opener as Cam Newton would score on a four-yard touchdown run in the second period while Graham Gano would tack on a 27-yard field goal with only 0:03 second left in the second quarter. Alex Armah would score for the Panthers on a one-yard run in the fourth to put the panthers up 16-0 after a miss PAT to end the scoring for the home team as the Cowboys would score on an Ezekiel Elliot four-yard run along with a Dak Prescott two-point conversion. Prescott would throw for 170 total yards while Elliot would lead the rushing attack with 69 yards in the loss. Prescott would also rush for 19 yards in the contest and is probable for Sunday’s game versus the G-Men with a groin injury. Cole Beasley would lead the receiving corps with 73 yards total for the game. There is no doubt that the Giants will receive a huge dose of the Dallas running game with Elliot as the Giants defense would be vulnerable in the rush game as they would give up 137 rushing yards to the Jags last Sunday. On the other hand, with cornerback Janoris Jenkins questionable for Sunday’s game due to personal reasons, the Cowboys may indeed improve upon their passing attack that would only put up 138 passing yards on an aggressive Panther defensive unit.
How New York Giants & Dallas Cowboys Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Dallas is 0-1 ATS while the O/U is 0-1
NY Giants are 0-1 ATS while the O/U is 0-1
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Cowboys have dominated this series in recent matchups and while both teams would take losses in week one, they would each end the game on high notes. The Giants would get their rushing game going late in the game while the Cowboys would also have a late drive that would salvage their loss versus the Panthers. In all, this contest will be an intriguing one not only because these teams are in the same division, but, that they enter this season with high hopes. To achieve the goals that they have set for themselves, the quarterback play must improve for both, however, both teams are ranked in the top ten in the league against the pass, thus making the need for a running game that much more critical to their success.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Dallas Cowboys -3
My reason for the pick :
I will give the Cowboys the edge in this matchup as I not only believe that Prescott will be suiting up, but, that Elliot will have a strong day versus the Giants defense that was pushed around a bit by the Jaguars their last time out. Of course, Barkley will show up to play in this game as well, and with Dallas ranking 27th in stopping the run thus far, this could be a typical NFC East showdown which entails a ground and pound philosophy that will ultimately lead to opening up the pass game. In all, I will take the Cowboys with the points in this matchup as they have the much more consistent running game along with a more talented unit up front to open holes for Zeek.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 42.5
My reason for the prediction :
While both teams possess some weapons on offense, I will back the under in this game in that you have two solid pass defenses that will certainly be focused on preventing the playmakers on the outside from gaining any type of momentum early on and throughout the game. It is for this season that each team, as stated, will rely heavily on their run game in which to set the tone for this contest. That means that both Dallas and the Giants will fight to gain control within the trenches, thus allowing he clock to tick. With that being the case, I will take the under in what will be a run-first affair between these two squads to where the under will once again, be the result.
