Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

San Diego Chargers vs Buffalo Bills

The San Diego Chargers will travel to New Era Field in Orchard Park, New York, to face the Buffalo Bills in week 2 NFL action beginning at 1 p, EST.  These two teams would last meet on November 19, 2017, as the Chargers would get the blowout in a 54-24 home win to where they would cover the spread while the over was the play with the total being set at 41.5 points for the game.  In opening week action, both teams would suffer losses as the Chargers would fall to the Kansas City Chiefs at home by a 38-28 score as they would not cover the spread as 3.5 favorites while the over was the result with the total being set at 48 points.  On the other hand, the Bills would lose to the Baltimore Ravens on the road by a 48-7 score to where they would also not cover the spread as 7.5 underdogs while the over was the play with the total being set at 39 points for the contest.  In all, each team will be looking to get a win under their belt as the Chargers seek to atone for their come from behind loss while the Bills will need to play much better than they did in a blowout loss in week one.

San Diego Chargers's Latest Performance :

The Chargers would go down 17-12 at the half while being outscored 21-16 in the second half en route to a week one loss to the Chiefs.  Despite Scoring 16 points in the fourth period, the Chargers were not able to get the win as Philip Rivers would throw two touchdown passes to Keenan Allen and Tyrell Williams while Melvin Gordon would convert a two-point conversion.  Nonetheless, Patrick Mahomes would come through for the home team as he would find Tyreek Hill for a one-yard pass touchdown to put the Chiefs up comfortably in the final period, thus sealing the win.  This week, the Chargers may be without receiver Williams (Probable-Groin) along with Artavius Scott (IR-Ankle).  They also will be without tackle Joe Barksdale who has been ruled out with an ankle injury.  These injuries could certainly affect the second ranked passing game in he NFL averaging 402 yards per game.  The good part is that defensive tackle Shaq Lawson is doubtful for the Bills with a hamstring injury for a Bills team that is already ranked near the bottom in total defense at 22nd.

Buffalo Bills 's Latest Performance :

The Bills would get nothing going on offense in week one as they would go down 26-0 at the half while allowing another 21 points to the ravens in the second half en route to a 48-7 road loss last Sunday in their opener.  The Bills defense would allow Joe Flacco to throw three touchdown passes in the matchup for a total of 252 passing yards while also giving up 117 yards on the ground.  Josh Allen and Nate Peterman were awful under center as they would combine for 11 of 33 passing for 98 yards along with two picks in the loss.  Marcus Murray would pace the rushing attack with only 31 yards on six attempts while the passing game was led by Zay Jones along with Logan Thomas who would combine for 4 catches for 50 total yards.  The passing game may indeed have some success versus the Chargers in that they would allow 256 yards total to the Chiefs in week one while the rushing game may also benefit from facing a team that would allow 106 rushing yards in week one as well.  The Bills, however, may have to improve upon their passing game without receiver Ray Ray McLeod as he is listed as questionable with a knee injury.  A positive for the Bills is that Joey Bosa, out indefinitely with a foot injury, along with Corey Liuget (Suspension) will not be in uniform for the Charger defense on Sunday, which could provide a bit more time in the pocket for Peterman and Allen.  In all, things should really improve on the offense end for a Buffalo team that is averaging only three points per contest while Los Angeles is giving up an average of 38 points per game, ranked 28th in the league.  Punter Cory Carter will also not suit up and is on IR due to a knee injury for the Bills.

How San Diego Chargers & Buffalo Bills Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Los Angeles is 1-0 ATS while the O/U is 1-0

Buffalo is 0-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-0

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Both the Chargers and the Bills, as stated, will be looking to pick up a much-needed win on Sunday to atone for terrible losses in opening week.  The problem is that the Bills will certainly need better play from their quarterback position as the Chargers will be a bit shorthanded on the defensive side of the ball while also lacking some talent at receiver with Williams and Scott on the IR.  In all, this will certainly be a great game, yet, its winner will heavily depend on which team can get any semblance of a running game going as the Chargers are ranked 11th in the NFL in averaging 111 yards per game while the Bills are only putting up 83 yards per game, good for only 25th in the league.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Los Angeles Chargers-7.5

My reason for the pick :

I will back the Chargers with the points in this matchup in that Rivers has picked up where he left off last season as he would end with three touchdown passes on the day in their loss to the Chiefs.  Nevertheless, he should have much more openings as he matches up with this Buffalo defense that was picked apart in their week one blowout loss.  Of course, I will expect some points to be scored in this game by both teams as they will both be a bit shorthanded due to injuries on defense, however, this will not faze Rivers a bit as he will continue to sling the ball all over the field throughout the contest.

Totals Selection: Pick:   Over 43

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the over in this game in that with Lawson not in the lineup, Rivers will have some extra time to scan that defense that was totally picked apart by Flacco last week.  ON the other hand, I should think that the QB play for Buffalo will be much better than in week 1 as the Chargers will be without some key pieces on the defensive line that was pushed around by the Chiefs at home in their opener.  In all, the score will certainly surpass 43 points in a game where Rivers and the Chargers will certainly get some scores early while the Bills offense will attempt to get the running game going, thus opening the passing attack to provide some confidence to their young signal callers.
