Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Seattle Seahawks vs Chicago Bears
The Seattle Seahawks will travel to Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois, for a week 2 NFL matchup with the Chicago Bears on Monday night at 8:15 pm EST. The Seahawks would fall to the Denver Broncos in the opening week of action by a 27-24 score as the cover would be a push (-3) while the over was the play with the total being set at 42.5 points for the game. The Chicago Bears would also suffer a come from behind 24-23 loss on the road versus their rival Green Bay Packers as they would cover the spread (+7) while the over was the play with the total setting at 45 points for the contest. The last time these two teams would meet would be on September 27, 2015, as the Seahawks would get the 26-0 shutout to where they would cover the huge spread of 16.5points while the under was still the play as the total was set at 43.5 points. Both teams will be looking to rebound from week 1 losses, so, expect this to be a highly competitive contest.
Seattle Seahawks's Latest Performance :
The Chicago Bears would also let one get away as the Green Bay Packers were sparked by Aaron Rogers late in the second half as he would throw 3 touchdown passes to allow the home team to not only take the lead, but, to pull out the 24-23 win as well. After two Cody Parkey field goals in the first half along with a Mitchell Trubisky 2-yard touchdown run combined with a Khalil Mack 53-yard interception return to put the Bears up 20-0, the Packers would make a huge run in the second half as Rodgers would throw TD passes to Randall Cobb, Geronimo Allison, and Davante Adams to sneak out a slim victory for the home team. Nonetheless, Trubisky would end with 171 yards in the air awhile also rushing for 32 yards and a score in the loss. Furthermore, Jordan Howard would rack up 82 yards on the ground on 15 carries while Allen Robinson II would lead the receiving corps with 61 yards on 4 receptions. A plus for the Bears would be that Seattle’s strong safety Bradley McDougal will be questionable for Sunday game due to a knee injury. Furthermore, with the Seahawks ranking near the bottom of the rankings in both defensive categories, Trubisky will be looking to utilize Robinson II much more on a defense that would relinquish 324 yards in the air for the season while unleashing a huge dose of the running game on a defense that would give up 146 yards on the ground thus far in 2018.
Chicago Bears's Latest Performance :
The Seahawks would go down 17-10 at the half versus Denver in week 1 and after outscoring the home team 14-10 in the second, were not able to pick up the win at Mile High Stadium as they would suffer a 27-24 defeat the begin the season. Seattle would reclaim the lead early in the fourth period as Russell Wilson would connect with Tyler Lockett on a 51-yard touchdown reception to make the score 24-20 in favor of the road team. Nonetheless, Case Keenum would find Demarius Thomas for a 4-yard touchdown pass to put the Broncos ahead for good and seal the victory. Russell Wilson would spark the offense in this contest with 298 yards with 3 touchdown passes, yet, he would throw 2 picks in the loss. His primary targets were Chris Dissly (3 rec, 105 yds, TD), Lockett (3 rec, 59 yds, TD), and Brandon Marshall (3 rec, 49 yds, TD) while the rushing game would be led by Chris Carson with 51 yards on the day. The passing game is the strength of this Seattle offense in that they are ranked 14th in the league with 242 yards per game while the Bears are ranked near the bottom in pass defense as they are allowing 301 yards per outing. The Seahawks will be without Doug Baldwin in this matchup as he is out with a knee injury, thus meaning that Marshall and Lockett will certainly play a pivotal role in Seattle pulling out a win in this contest. On the other hand, Carson will find it difficult to find holes against this Bears defense as they are 5th in the league in allowing only 69 yards per game on the ground. It would be important to note that linebacker Danny Trevathan (questionable-head injury) along with cornerback Prince Amukamara (questionable-upper body injury) will be a game time decision.
How Seattle Seahawks & Chicago Bears Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Chicago is 1-0 ATS while the O/U is 1-0
Seattle is 0-0-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-0
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Both these teams would suffer heart breaking losses in week 1, so, getting back on the field to atone for their loss while getting a victory is very much imperative in week 2. Seattle will look to better establish its running game versus Chicago, however, this will not be easy as the defensive front for the home team did very well in containing the run against Green Bay in the opener. On the other hand, Chicago would love to exploit the defense for the Seahawks that would, in many ways, stink it up both on the run and in the pass in their loss at Denver. It will be interesting to see which team will control the line of scrimmage in this matchup, as it will certainly be the key to victory.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Chicago Bears -3.5
My reason for the pick :
I will have to back the Bears in this matchup in that they possess a running back in Howard that can find daylight for the rushing attack. Also, the Seahawks were terrible in stopping both the run and pass in their opener, which allows me to feel as though Chicago will certainly have a decent night on the offensive end. Combine this with the fact that Seattle may indeed be without some key pieces on their defense, I would say that the Bears will grind out a much-needed victory on Monday night. I will keep an eye on Trubisky to see how effective he will be against a shaky Seahawk defense in this contest.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 43.5
My reason for the prediction :
It would be safe to assume that Seattle will play much better, from a defensive standpoint, in this contest despite being undermanned due to injury. It is for this reason that I feel as though there may not be many opportunities for the Bears to score. On the other hand, the Bears defense will be looking to play much better after being snake bit by Rodgers in their opener. In all, I will back the under on Monday night in that while Chicago will take advantages of its opportunities due to their ability to run the ball, they will score just enough to sneak out with a win. The Chicago defense, in turn, will neutralize a Seattle offense by stopping the run while pressuring Wilson constantly.
