NY Jets (1-1) vs Cleveland Browns (1-1)

Location : First Energy Field, Cleveland, Ohio

Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

NY Jets vs Cleveland Browns

The New York Jets will travel to First Energy Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio, to battle the Cleveland Browns in week three NFL action on Thursday night at 8:20 pm EST.  The Jets would fall at home to the Miami Dolphins last Sunday by a 20-12 score as they would not cover the spread as three-point favorites while the under of 43 points was not surpassed in the contest.  The Browns would also fall to the New Orleans Saints in a heartbreaking loss on Sunday afternoon as they would fall by a 21-18 score while covering the spreads as 9.5 road underdogs while the under was the play with the total being at 51 points for the game.  The Jets would win the last five meetings amongst these two squads while winning the last meeting in Cleveland by a 17-14 score as they would also cover the small spread (1.5) while the under was the play with the total being at 41.5 points for the game.  Also, the Jets would cover in four of the last five contests at First Energy Stadium while being winners of five straight overall in the series.

NY Jets's Latest Performance :

The Jets would come out flat versus the Miami Dolphins on Sunday afternoon as they would go down 20-0 at halftime thanks to two Ryan Tannyhill touchdown passes to Albert Wilson and A.J Derby to put the road team up 21-0 while Kenyan Drake would score on a six-yard run for Miami’s first score of the game.  Nonetheless, the Jets would fire back with a touchdown pass from Sam Darnold to Bilal Powell for a 28 yard strike to cut into the lead while Jason Myers would add two field goals as the Jets would outscore the road team 12-0 in the second half; However, this would not be enough as they would not be able to control a rushing attack for the Dolphins that would rack up 135 yards total for the game on their way to their first road win of the seaon.  They now will look challenge a Cleveland defense that is allowing 135 rushing yards per game thus far in 2018 while the Jets will come into the game with the 16th ranked rushing attack in the league at 106 yards on the ground per game.  The Jets may indeed have some positives for their passing game going into this matchup as the Browns are ranked 22nd in allowing 263 yards in the air while the Jets are putting up 250 yards per outing thus far in the season.  The good news for the Jets is that Brown’s defensive lineman Emmanuel Ogbah is questionable with an ankle injury for Thursday’s matchup.

Cleveland Browns 's Latest Performance :

The Browns would play outstanding defense versus an offensive minded team in the Saints as they would take a 6-3 lead going into halftime thanks to two Zhane Gonzales’ field goals.  The Browns would also score on a Carlos Hyde one-yard touchdown run to put the Browns up by a 12-3 score before Michael Thomas would score on a two-yard pass play from Drew Brees to tighten Cleveland’s lead to 12-10 with 8:45 remaining in the game.  The Saints would tack on yet another score by Thomas along with an Alvin Camara two-point conversion to put the home team up by an 18-12 score with 2:44 remaining; Yet, the Browns would once again battle back with a Tyrod Taylor 47-yard strike to Antonio Calloway which would tie the game after a failed PAT with 1:24 left in the game before the Saints would drive the ball on their next possession before Will Lutz would kick a game-winning 44-yard field goal to win the game for New Orleans.  Taylor would have 246 yards for the game with an interception while also rushing for 26 yards in the loss for the Browns.  Hyde would rack up 43 yards total on the day while Callaway (3 rec, 81 yds, TD), Jarvis Landry (5 rec, 69 yds), along with Rashard Higgins (5 rec, 46 yds) would lead the road team in receptions.  Cleveland still owns the sixth ranked rushing attack in the NFL and will now face off versus a Jets team that would allow their opponents 87 yards per game on the ground while their 26th ranked passing offense will look to exploit a passing defense for New York that is allowing 211 yards per game, good for 9th in the league.  It will also be interesting to see how the Browns, ranked 22nd in the league in total offense per game while averaging only 19.5 points per outing, fares against a Jets defense that is 4th in the league in total defense when these two teams clash on Thursday night.

How NY Jets & Cleveland Browns Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Cleveland is 2-0 ATS while the O/U is 1-1

New York is 1-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-1

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Both teams are coming off losses at home in week two, thus falling to .500 on the season.  The Jets would get hammered on the ground in week two, yet, their passing game would throw for over 300 yards versus a Miami defense that were already soft in the defensive secondary.  They look to have the same success versus the Browns who would play very well versus a Saints team who would enter the game ranked fifth in passing yards in the NFL.  Nonetheless, the rushing attack for Cleveland will look to get going versus a Jets defensive unit that has been stout this season in hopes that it could somehow kick start their offense that simply could not get going in week two.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  New York Jets +3.5

My reason for the pick :

With the Browns defense coming off a great showing versus the Saints along with the Jets being 4th in the league in total defense, I would say that either team has a chance of pulling out a win in this contest as both offenses may be stifled throughout.  However, I will refer to the Jets having covered the spread in four of the last five road games versus the Browns as justification that they will indeed cover in this matchup on Thursday.  Combine this with the fact that their defense, despite their lackluster performance in week two, ranks as one of the top 10 units in the league, I will back the Jets to show and prove this week to go over .500.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 40

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the under in this contest not only since both offenses are coming off contests to where they struggled to move the ball effectively, but, due to both defenses performing solid to begin the season.  And while the Jets would begin slow on both sides of the ball on Sunday, they continue to possess the 4th rank in total defense while being ranked 9th in the pass.  Again, with the way both offenses struggled in their last outing, it will be a safe bet to back the under in this contest on Thursday.

Betting trends for NY Jets:

    • Under is 4-0 in Jets last 4 games following a straight up win
    • Under is 4-0 in Jets last 4 games following a straight up win of more than 14 points
    • Under is 4-0 in Jets last 4 games after accumulating more than 150 yards rushing in their previous game.

Betting trends for Cleveland Browns :

    • Under is 4-0 in Browns last 4 home games vs. a team with a winning road record
    • Browns are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a winning road record
    • Over is 5-0 in Browns last 5 games in Week 3.
