Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Cincinnati Bengals vs Carolina Panthers

The Cincinnati Bengals will travel to Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, to battle the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm EST for a week three NFL showdown.  The last time these two teams met were on October 12, 2014 where the teams would play to a 37-37 tie as the Panthers would cover the spread as seven-point underdogs while the over was the play with the total being set at 44 points for the game.  In their last outing, the Panthers would suffer a 31-24 road loss to the Atlanta Falcons where they would not cover the spread as 5.5-point underdogs while the over was the play with the total being set at 43.5 points for the game.  The Bengals, on the other hand, would get the slim 24-23 home win over the Baltimore Ravens to remain undefeated on the season as they would cover the one point spread as favorites while the over of 43 points was surpassed.

Cincinnati Bengals's Latest Performance :

The Bengals would get four TD passes from Andy Dalton as they would pull out a slim 24-23 victory on last Thursday versus the Baltimore Ravens as he would throw three TD’s to begin the game to put his squad up by a 21-7 score before Javoris Allen would put the Ravens on the board with a one-yard touchdown run.  Dalton would then find Tyler Boyd for a 14-yard strike to put the Bengals up 28-7 before Joe Flacco would make the score 28-14 with a touchdown pass to Mark Andrews with :08 seconds remaining in the second.  The Bengals would survive the game with two Randy Bullock field goals to seal the victory for the home team as Dalton would end the game with 265 yards for the game while Joe Mixon would lead the rushing attack with 84 yards total, though he will be out versus the Panthers.  Tyler Boyd (6 rec, 91 yds, TD) and AJ Green (5 rec, 69 yds, 3TD’s) would pace the receiving corps in this matchup as they will look forward to week three as they will seek to exploit a Panthers defense that is allowing only 205 yards per game for a seventh place ranking in the league; Yet, they  may find success in this area as Da’Norris Searcy (undisclosed) and Donte Jackson (hamstring) are questionable for the defensive secondary for Carolina in this matchup.  On the other hand, Cincy’s rushing attack, putting up 105 rushing yards per game, will matchup up against a porous Panther rush defense ranked 24th in the NFL in allowing 132 yards per outing to their opponents as they will be without their leader at linebacker in Thomas Davis, who continues to serve suspension while Keuchly is practicing, yet, not at 100%.

Carolina Panthers's Latest Performance :

Graham Gano and Cam Newton will give the Panthers an early 10-3 lead over the Falcons in week two, however, two Matt Ryan touchdown passes to Austin Hooper and Calvin Ridley would give the home team a 24-10 lead at 9:23 remaining in the third period.  Newton would find Torrey Smith for a three-yard pass to tighten the lead to 24-17 in favor of the Falcons, however, Matt Ryan would score on a one-yard rushing TD to put the home team back up by two scores.  Newton would find DJ Moore for a 51-yard touchdown pass for his third TD pass of the day, however, the Panthers would not score again as they would take the 31-24 road loss.  Newton would have 335 passing yards and an interception while also rushing for 42 yards total.  Christian McCaffrey would also have 37 yards rushing for Carolina while also have 102 passing yards on 14 receptions while Devin Funchess and Jarius Wright would combine for 12 receptions for 139 yards in the air in the loss.  The Panthers come into this matchup versus the Bengals with the sixth ranked rushing game in the league with 134 yards per outing as they will look to get something going versus the Bengals who are allowing 70 yards per game, good for fourth in the league.  The may be able to gain some ground on Cincy with Michael Johnson being out on the defensive end position indefinitely due to a knee injury.  However, they will also take their 21st ranked passing game into this matchup to battle the 30th ranked pass defense for the Bengals that will be thin in the defensive secondary with cornerback Dre Kilpatrick and Shawn Williams being questionable with knee and upper body injuries.

How Cincinnati Bengals & Carolina Panthers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Carolina is 1-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-1

Cincinnati is 2-0 ATS while the O/U is 2-0

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The Bengals have been picking up momentum with each week that passes.  After their win over the Ravens last Sunday, they will certainly look to continue their stellar play on the road versus a Panther team that will be looking to get back into the win column at home.  In all, this will be an interesting game in that the Panthers have been simply decent on offense this season despite their many weapons.  However, they will be facing a Bengals team that is ranked near the bottom in yards allowed with 402 yards per game.  Nonetheless, Carolina will attempt to stop Dalton and crew and their fourth ranked scoring offense which averages 34 points per game by utilizing their eighth ranked scoring defensive which is only allowing teams to score 19.5 points per game.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Carolina Panthers -3

My reason for the pick :

I will give the edge to the Panthers in this matchup as they will certainly be looking to challenge that depleted defensive secondary for Cincy after they would experience some injuries in week two.  Also, the Panthers play very well at Bank of America Stadium and will also look to isolate McCaffrey versus the Vontez Berfect-less linebacking corps for the Bengals in which to get some favorable matchups out of the backfield.  In all, while I feel as though the Bengals will come to play and that Dalton and company will score some points, I will have to back the home team in this contest to cover the small spread at home in what will certainly be an exciting matchup from start to finish.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Over 43.5

My reason for the prediction :

As stated, the Panthers have not been overly impressive on offense thus far in the season, however, they do have some weapons at Newton’s disposal that could create some great matchups for the home team.  With that being said, the Bengals are very potent as well and will go after a defensive secondary that has been decent against the pass thus far in 2018.  In all, both teams will put up some scores as their defenses will be missing critical pieces at linebacker while also may be without players from within their respective secondaries.  This will mean that Newton and Dalton will also have great games in the air throughout this contest.
