Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Indianapolis Colts vs Philadelphia Eagles

The Indianapolis Colts will travel to Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for a week three battle versus the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon beginning at 1 pm EST.  These teams would not meet recently, however, the Eagles would pick up the 30-27 road win on September 15, 2014, as the Eagles would cover the spread as three-point road underdogs while the over was the play with the total being set at 53.5 points for the game.  In their last outing, Philly would fall on the road to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a 27-21 score as they would not cover the three-point spread as favorites while the over of 46.5 points was surpassed.  On the other hand, the Colts would cash in on the six point spread as road underdogs as they were able to pick up a 21-9 win versus the Washington Redskins while the under was the play in this matchup as the total was set at 48 points for this matchup.  It would be important to note that the over has been the result in four of the last five meetings amongst these two squads.

Indianapolis Colts 's Latest Performance :

The Colts would get two touchdown passes from Andrew luck to TY Hilton along with Eric Ebron along with a Nyheim Hines eight-yard touchdown run in a 21-9 road win over the Washington Redskins in week two to pick up the win.  Luck would throw for 179 yards along with two interceptions in the win while Jordan Wilkins and Marlon Mack would combine for 20 rushes for 95 yards on the ground.  Hilton (83 yds, 7 rec, TD) would lead the team in receptions in victory for the Colts.  They have struggled in both the passing and running game thus far in the season, yet, are averaging 22 points per game on their opponents while the Eagles are allowing only 59 yards on the ground (1st) while giving up 309 yards in the air thus far, ranking them 27th in the league.  And while the Eagles defense has allowed 19.5 points per game this year, they are ranked 18th in total defense with 368 yards per game compared to Philly putting up 331 yards per outing on offense.

Philadelphia Eagles's Latest Performance :

The Eagles would outscore the Bucs 14-7 in the second half, however, they would come up short on the road in week two as they would suffer the 27-21 loss.  Nick Foles would pass for 324 yards along with a TD pass to Nelson Agholor (8 rec, 88 yds) while Zack Ertz would have 94 passing yards on 11 receptions in the defeat.  Corey Clement and Wendall Smallwood would combine for 13 rushes for 58 yards for the team’s rushing attack which averages 102 yards per game versus its opponents.  They will certainly need more production on the ground as the Colts are allowing only 83 yards per outing to their opponents, ranked 9th in the NFL.  Hassan Ridgeway is day to day with a calf injury for the defensive line for the Colts.  The Eagles, however, will certainly look to make a dent in the Colts defensive secondary as the visitors are ranked 17th in total yards while allowing 249 yards in the air per outing.  Alshon Jeffrey is out indefinitely with a shoulder injury while Mike Wallace is day to day with an ankle injury.  In all, the Eagles will look to control the trenches versus a Colts unit that is ranked in the top half in all defensive statistics.

How Indianapolis Colts & Philadelphia Eagles Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Indy is 1-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-1

Philly is 1-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-1

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The Eagles would run into an offensive minded Bucs team in week two as they would get the road loss while the Colts would go on the road to play very well versus the Redskins as they would capitalize on two fumbles by the home team in which to get a convincing win.  This week, they will look to keep their momentum going while also attempt to open their passing game as they may find it difficult to find much success versus a stout Eagles defense that will not give up many yards on the ground.  In all, expect this to be a low scoring and competitive matchup versus two teams looking to either get back on the winning track, or, make a statement by winning two straight contests to begin the season.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Indianapolis Colts +6

My reason for the pick :

While the Eagles may indeed come out with a win in this contest, they will certainly have to work for it as the Colts defense will certainly make their offense work for scoring opportunities.  On the other hand, the Colts, who will look to establish some type of running game for Luck, will also have their issues in doing so as the Eagles are ranked first in rushing defense.  In all, I predict a battle in the trenches throughout this matchup to where the Colts will find most of their opportunities versus a sometimes shaky defense backfield for the home team, thus allowing them to cover the six points in the end.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 47.5

My reason for the prediction :

This point total will prove to be a bit high for these two defenses as they are each ranked in the top half of the NFL in total defense in 2018.  With that being said, with the running game for both teams struggling at this point, I see a defensive battle throughout the matchup as the point total of 47.5 points will not being surpassed.  It is for this reason that I will back the under in this contest.

Betting trends for Indianapolis Colts :

    • Under is 4-0 in Colts last 4 vs. a team with a winning record
    • Under is 4-0 in Colts last 4 games following an ATS loss
    • Under is 7-0 in Colts last 7 games following a straight up loss.

Betting trends for Philadelphia Eagles:

    • Eagles are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall
    • Under is 5-1 in Eagles last 6 home games
    • Under is 5-1 in Eagles last 6 games after accumulating less than 150 yards passing in their previous game.
