Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

New England Patriots vs Detroit Lions

The week three headliner on Sunday night will be the New England Patriots, who will travel to Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, to face the Detroit Lions on Sunday night at 8:20 pm EST.  The Lions would fall on the road last Sunday to the San Francisco 49’ers by a 30-27 score as they would cash in on the spread as six points underdogs while the total of 48.5 points was surpassed.  On the other hand, the Patriots were destroyed on the road by a tough Jacksonville Jaguars team by a 31-20 score as they would also not cover the spread as two points favorites while the over was the play with the total being set at 44.5 points for the contest.  The last time these two teams would meet would be on November 23, 2014 where the Patriots would get the 34-9 home blowout as they would cash in on the spread as 7.5 home favorites while the under was the play as the total was set at 47.5 for the game.  The favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings amongst these two squads.

New England Patriots's Latest Performance :

The Patriots would also go down by a 21-3 score at the half versus Jacksonville in week one, however, they would outscore the home team 17-10 in the second half while also falling short of the victory.  Tom Brady would throw two touchdown passes for 234 yards in the loss while Sony Michel and Rex Burkhead would combine for 16 rushes for 56 yards while James White and Philip Dorsett would combine for 12 catches for 117 yards total in defeat.  The Pats would not reach their averages for the year in passing nor rushing versus a Jacksonville defense that would also cause a fumble in the win along with two sacks.  The Patriots are in the middle of the road as it pertains to its offensive rankings thus far in 2018, yet, will look to get back to basics in reestablishing its rushing game that is currently averaging 102 yards per game.  They may be able to find some success as the Lions are allowing 180 yards per game on the ground to their opponents.  Furthermore, Brady would love to get back on track in challenging a Detroit D that is allowing only 168 yards in the air to their opponents, good for fourth in the league.  In all, it would be safe to say that the Patriots may very well get back on track versus a team that allows a total of 39 points per game to their opponents in 2018.

Detroit Lions's Latest Performance :

While the Lions would go in at the half by a 13-10 score, they would fall short of the victory, yet, not before coming alive in the final quarter with two touchdown passes from Matthew Stafford to Marvin Jones Jr and Michael Roberts to pull the road team within three points; However, they will not gain possession again in the game, thus suffering their second loss of the season.  Stafford would end with 347 yards along with three TD’s in the loss while Kerryon Johnson and LeGarrette Blount would combine for 16 rushes for 81 yards total.  Golden Tate (7 rec, 109 yds), Kenny Golliday (6 red, 89 yds, TD), and Jones Jr (4 red, 54 yds, TD) would lead the receiving corps for Detroit in the loss.  Detroit averages 315 yards per game in the air and may indeed find some success versus a Patriots D that allows 268 yards per outing.  Its rushing game, ranked 29th overall, will look to run the trenches versus a New England team that was manhandled in week two versus the Jags in allowing 136 yards per game to their opponents on the ground.

How New England Patriots & Detroit Lions Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

New England is 1-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-1

Detroit is 1-1 ATS while the O/U is 2-0

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The Patriots were taken advantage of in just about every way possible versus a physical Jags team last week.  With that being said, matching up with a team in the Lions that are hungry, yet, allowing a ton of points could be just the solution to get them back on the winning track.  Of course, the Patriots secondary will be tried with Stafford at the helm along with a passing game that is putting up 315 yards per game in the air; Nonetheless, this will certainly be a high-scoring affair as each team will look to get the taste of losing out of their mouths.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  New England Patriots -6.5

My reason for the pick :

While the Lions will play decent in this game, I will have to back the Patriots in this matchup in that they certainly will need to have a great comeback game after they would perform miserably in week two.  In other words, Brady will have a stellar day versus the Lions defense on Sunday night, thus allowing the road team to get back to form before they return home to face yet another Florida team in the Dolphins, who are playing dominant as well at this point in the season.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Over 51.5

My reason for the prediction :

As stated, this will be an offensive shootout on Sunday night and one to which the Patriots will come out on top.   Take a Detroit offense that can certainly move the ball through the air versus a New England unit that is prone to given up tons of yardage in the air to their foes along with Brady and company looking for a dominant performance in week three to atone for their lack of focus, intensity, and toughness in their last loss, I will back the over in this contest as the scoreboard will certainly light up from the start.

Betting trends for Detroit Lions:
