Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

New York Giants vs Houston Texans

The New York Giants will hit the road, once again, to face the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, for a week 3 NFL showdown set for 1 pm EST.  The Giants remain winless on the season after they would fall by a 20-13 score to division rival Dallas Cowboys on last Sunday as they would not cover the spread as three point underdogs while the under was the play with the total being set at 42 points for the game while the Texans would also take the loss in week two as they would be defeated by the Titans by a 20-17 score as they would also not cover as 3.5 point spread as road favorites while the under of 41 was not surpassed.  The last time these two teams would meet dates to September 21, 2014 as the Giants would get the 30-17 win as they would cover the spread as one-point home favorites while the over was the play with the total being set at 41.5 points for the game.

New York Giants's Latest Performance :

The Giants would not score in the first half versus the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday, however, would outscore the Cowboys 13-10 in the second half thanks to an 18-yard passing TD from Eli Manning to Evan Engram along with an Aldrick Rojas field goal which would seal the scoring for the road team in a 20-12 loss to their division rival in week two.  Manning would end with 279 yards total while Saquan Barkley would only have 28 yards on 14 carries to lead the rushing attack that would only muster 35 yards for the game.  The receiving corps was led by Barkley with 80 yards on 14 catches while Evan Engram would have 67 yards and a TD in defeat.  Odell Beckham and Sterling Shepard would combine for 7 catches for 75 yards for the Giants in this matchup.  Offensive lineman Jon Halapio is day to day with a leg injury for the Giants while Jadaveon Clowney will be day to day with a back injury for the Texans.  The Giants will be looking to get their rushing attack going this year as they are ranked 28th in the league while the Texans have not been very effective in preventing the ground attack as they are allowing 111 yards per game.  Nonetheless, Houston’s 12th ranked passing defense will look to neutralize Beckham and company for a Giants passing attack ranked 24th in the NFL in putting up 215 yards per outing.

Houston Texans's Latest Performance :

The Texans would recover from a 14-point burst by the Titans in the first period to outscore them 20-6 the rest of the way; Nonetheless, they would fall 20-17 due to a Ryan Succop 31-yard field goal to seal the victory with 1:00 remaining in the game.  Will Fuller and DeAndre Hopkins would both be recipients of Deshaun Watson TD passes while Succop would also tack on another field goal; Yet, it would not be enough as they would not be able to overcome two touchdown passes to Titans’ Dane Cruikshak and Taywan Taylor in the first half as they would suffer the road loss in week two.  Watson would end with 310 yards total with an interception along with two TD passes while also rushing for 44 yards in the loss.  Will Fuller (8 rec, 113, TD) along with DeAndre Hopkins (6 rec, 110, TD) would pace the receiving corps.  Bruce Ellington would also have three catches for 45 yards in defeat.  The Texans will take their first place rushing attack into week three hoping to exploit a Giants defense that allows 138 yards per outing to their opponents (28th) while its passing attack, ranked 22nd in the league, will attempt to find some holes versus a unit for the G-Men that is allowing only 164 yards per game thus far in the season, good for 2nd in the NFL.  The Giants, however, may not have Eli Apple (groin) along with linebackers Olivier Vernon and Tae Davis as each are questionable for Sunday’s matchup.

How New York Giants & Houston Texans Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Houston is 0-2 ATS while the O/U is 0-2

New York is 0-2 ATS while the O/U is 0-2

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Both the Giants are Texans are struggling, from an offensive standpoint, while the defenses are middle of the road at this point in the young season due to a developing offensive line.  In all, the Giants, as stated, will be looking to get their running game back on track after being held to under 50 yards in week 2 while the Texans will also be looking to maintain their dominance on the ground thus far against a Giants defense that ranks near the bottom in yards allowed on the ground.  In all, will the sixth ranked Giants defense be able to control the line of scrimmage versus a tough running game for the Texans while also neutralizing Watson in the pocket?  We will certainly see on Sunday afternoon.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Houston Texans -6.5

My reason for the pick :

I will back the home team in this matchup simply because they have been much more consistent in the running game, which is critical in the NFL.  As stated, the Texans are averaging 158 yards total and with Watson also being a duel threat quarterback, I happen to believe that they will certainly get the best of the Giants defense that is ranked in the top 10 in total yards, however, is ranked 28th in rush defense.  Combine this with the fact that they may be without critical pieces from within their linebacking corps, one would surmise that this game will be yet another loss for the Giants, thus allowing them to go 0-2 in Texas in two straight weeks.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 41

My reason for the prediction :

This will certainly be low scoring game as both teams are averaging well under 20 points per outing.  Factoring in that both defenses may be horrible versus the run, yet, efficient in not giving up very many scores, I will expect the units to take front and center in this matchup in which to ensure that the this matchup remains one to where the running game will dominate, thus eating the clock for much of the contest.
