Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Pittsburgh Steelers vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Pittsburgh Steelers will be looking for their first win of 2018 as they will wrap up the NFL slate for week three in traveling to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, to battle the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night at 8:15 pm EST. The Steelers would fall at home to the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday by a 42-37 score as they would not cover the spread as 4.5 home favorites while the over was the play with the total being set at 52 points for the game. The Bucs would remain undefeated as they would get the 27-21 home win versus the Philadelphia Eagles in week 2 as they would cover as three-point home underdogs while the over of 46.5 was surpassed. The road team is not only 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings, but, the Steelers are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings as well. The last time these two teams would meet would be on September 28, 2014, to where the Bucs would get the 27-24 road win while covering the spread as 7.5 underdogs.
Pittsburgh Steelers's Latest Performance :
The Steelers would lose a heartbreaker at home in week two as they would fall to a Chiefs squad 42-37. After the road team would jump out to a 21-0 lead early in the game, the Steelers would fight back thanks to three Ben Roethlisberger touchdown passes to Jesse James (5 rec, 138 yds, TD), JuJu Smith Shuster (13 rec, 131 yds, TD), and Antonio Brown (9 rec, 67 yds) in which to tie the game at the half. The Chiefs would outscore the home team 21-16 in the second half as the Steelers would get a James Conner one yard run along with a Roethlisberger four-yard TD run along with a safety by Artie Burns, yet, could not overcome the day by Patrick Mahomes who would throw six TD’s in the win. The Steelers will now square off versus the 31st ranked pass defense in the Bucs on Monday night as they are giving up 377 yards per outing. On the other hand, Pittsburgh’s rushing attack, led by Conner, will attempt to carve out some running space against the second ranked defense in the league on Monday. Tampa Bay’s defense, however, is giving up 31 points per game while ranking 30th in total defense with 444 yards allowed per game.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers's Latest Performance :
The Bucs would jump out on the Eagles at home on last Sunday and would take a 27-7 lead led by four Ryan Fitzpatrick touchdown passes to which the road team would never recover as they would claim the 27-21 win in week two. Fitzpatrick would end with 402 yards along with an interception while he would utilize DeShawn Jackson (4 rec, 129 yds, TD), OJ Howard (3 rec, 96 yds, TD), and Mike Evans (10 rec, 83 yds, TD) to assist in the win. Peyton Barber, on the other hand, would lead the rushing attack with only 22 yards on 16 carries total in the win. While their rushing game has been their weak spot thus far, as they are only averaging 76 yards per game, they will be looking for success versus a Steeler defense that is allowing 152 yards per game, ranked 30th overall. On the other hand, their passing game has been outstanding as they will certainly look to Fitzpatrick and company to exploit a defense that is allowing 236 yards per outing to their opponents. Also, the Steelers are allowing opponents 32 points per game, overall, while giving up 388 yards per game.
How Pittsburgh Steelers & Tampa Bay Buccaneers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Pittsburgh is 0-2 ATS while the O/U is 2-0
Kansas City is 2-0 ATS while the O/U is 2-0
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Steelers should most certainly be angry after their loss to the Chiefs last Sunday. Furthermore, with Fitzpatrick having a similar afternoon as Mahomes in week two, one could only feel that he will be looking to get back on the field in which to challenge the shaky Steeler defensive secondary as well. In all, expect Roethlisberger and crew to be up for this game as they should perform a much better, all-around game. However, both teams certainly have issues on the defensive side of the ball as this will be highlight for all to see on MNF.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Tampa Bay Bucs +2.5
My reason for the pick :
I will gladly take the Bucs and the plus points at home versus the Steelers on Monday night due to the leaky defense of the Steelers combined with the inconsistency of the Steeler rushing attack. Of course, Tampa Bay has been lighting it up in the passing game, yet, their rushing attack lacks cohesion. Nonetheless, I will back the home team in this instance as I have much more confidence in Tampa’s offense along with a defense that may not be as good versus the pass, yet, are effective against the run, as they must prepare to get a heavy dose from Pittsburgh.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 52.5
My reason for the prediction :
Though both offenses have numerous playmakers, I happen to believe that the total will not exceed 53 points in this matchup. The defensive units for the Steelers and the Bucs have given up chunks of yardage this year, however, this is Monday night football, and each team will look to play their best game in front of the nation and the league. With that being said, this will be a close game throughout as you will have a Steelers team that will be longing to get their first win of the season while the Bucs will look to go 3-0 in front of their home crowd. In all, expect a physical, low-scoring affair between these two hungry squads.
