Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Cleveland Browns vs Oakland Raiders
The Cleveland Browns will travel to Oakland Alameda Coliseum for a 4:05 pm EST battle versus the Oakland Raiders in week four NFL action. The Browns would pick up their first win of the season at home versus the NY Jets last Thursday by a 21-17 score while the Raiders would fall to the Miami Dolphins on the road last Sunday by a 28-20 score. The last time these two teams met was on September 27, 2015, as the Browns would fall by a 27-20 score as the Raiders would cover as 3.5-point road underdogs while the over was the play with the total being set at 43.5 points for the game.
Cleveland Browns's Latest Performance :
Cleveland would start slow during their week three contest as they would trail at the half by a 14-3 score while two Carlos Hyde touchdown runs along with a Greg Joseph field goal to begin the quarter helped them pull out the home victory last Thursday night versus the NY Jets. The Browns 5th ranked rushing attack put up 133 yards on the Jets as Carlos Hyde had 98 yards on 23 carries while the passing game put up a total of 190 yards led by Jarvis Landry with 103 yards on eight receptions. Baker Mayfield passed for 203 yards in the win yet was sacked four times in the game. Tyrod Taylor would not start due to a concussion in their previous outing while DL Emmanuel Ogbah, S Jibril Peppers, along with LB James Burgess Jr are all questionable for week four with injuries.
Oakland Raiders's Latest Performance :
A Mike Nugent field goal would be the difference at the half as both Derek Carr (345 yards, TD, 2 INT’s) and Ryan Tannehill (289 yards, 3 TD’s) would each throw early touchdown passes yet the Raiders would take the halftime lead. A Marshawn Lynch one-yard touchdown run would put the road team up 17-7 but Tannehill would connect with Jakeem Grant for an 18-yard touchdown pass to tighten the lead to 17-14. Another Grant touchdown pass to Grant would put the Dolphins up for the first time, however, Tannehill would throw yet another touchdown pass to Albert Wilson to put the Dolphins ahead 28-17 to seal the week three victory. The Raiders 22nd ranked rush defense would only allow 41 rushing yards to the Dolphins while the pass defense would be scored by Tannehill for 332 passing yards for the game. Marshawn Lynch ended the game with 61 yards on 19 rushes while Jordy Nelson would have six receptions for 173 yards along with a TD in defeat. The Raiders defense collected three sacks for the game, yet they would also allow 144 return yardage for a speedy Dolphins squad in the loss.
How Cleveland Browns & Oakland Raiders Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Cleveland is 3-0 ATS while the O/U is 1-2
Oakland is 1-2 ATS while the O/U is 1-2
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
As the Browns picked up their prior win primarily due to their rushing attack, they will also look to pound the Raiders 22nd ranked rushing defense that is allowing 116 yards per outing on Sunday afternoon. And while the Brown’s passing attack may struggle at times, they will also look to exploit a Raiders pass defense that is allowing 258 yards per game to their opponents. The interesting, and somewhat confusing part concerning the Raiders is that they are ranked 6th in the NFL in total yards per game along with passing yards, however, are only averaging 17 points per game. They should meet some resistance versus Cleveland in that they have played solidly versus both the pass along with the run this year and will certainly look to extend their winning streak in week four.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Oakland Raiders -2.5
My reason for the pick :
As much as I would like to ride the Browns after their outing versus the Jets in their last time out, I must play it safe and back the Raiders at home in this contest. As stated, the Raiders have been moving the ball versus opponents lately, however, they have had difficulty in remaining efficient while in scoring position. And while the Browns have played solid in overall defense thus far in the year, expect the Raiders to battle in this matchup in which to pick up a win while also covering the small spread at home.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 45
My reason for the prediction :
I will back the under in this contest as both teams, despite having the ability to pick up yards, have not shown that they can score consistently thus far. It is for this reason that I have more confidence in the under being the strong play in this contest. Again, I expect some points to be scored in this matchup, however, both teams tend to sleepwalk on offense at times, thus leaving points on the field. Nonetheless, look for Carr and the offense to take control in the trenches in this contest while neutralizing Baker Mayfield (or Tyrod Taylor, if healthy) and the Browns offense in week four.
