Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Minnesota Vikings vs Los Angeles Rams
The Minnesota Vikings will travel to LA Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California, to take on the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night in week four NFL action beginning at 8:20 pm EST. In their last outing, the Vikings would get only 14 yards from their rushing attack while fumbling four times in a 27-6 home loss to the Buffalo Bills last Sunday. The Rams, on the other hand, remained undefeated as their running game would punish the Chargers at LA Memorial Stadium en route to a 35-23 defeat. These two teams last met on November 19, 2017 as the Vikings would get the 24-7 home win after breaking the game open in the fourth quarter in scoring 17 points while also having 171 yards rushing for the game. The Vikings would cover the spread as 1.5-point home favorites while the under was the play as the total was set at 46.5 points for the game.
Minnesota Vikings 's Latest Performance :
Buffalo went into the half with a 27-0 lead over the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday en route to their first win of the season. The Vikings, on the other hand, held the ball for only 24:15 minutes for the game as they simply shot themselves in the foot time and time again with five total turnovers for the game. Their rushing game was horrible as they only picked up 14 yards for the game while the passing game would rack up 278 yards for the day with Kirk Cousins throwing for a touchdown along with an interception in the loss. Kyle Rudolph caught the only touchdown pass of the day for Minnesota while Adam Thielen had 14 receptions for 105 yards total. The Viking rushing attack is ranked dead last in the league while its passing game is ranked 6th with 305 yards per game. On the other hand, the Rams are stout in both defensive categories as they are allowing 75 yards per outing to their opponents on the ground while also permitting teams to put up 192 yards in the passing attack per game. Harrison Smith, Danielle Hunter, and Stephen Weatherly would each have a sack while Hunter, along with Eric Kendricks, and Weatherly led the defense in tackles with five each. CB Tre Waynes is questionable with an ankle injury for Thursday’s game.
Los Angeles Rams's Latest Performance :
Todd Gurley II (23 rushes, 105, TD) led the rushing attack for the Rams last Sunday in their victory over the Chargers while Jared Goff threw for 354 yards for the game along with three touchdown passes to Robert Woods (10 rec, 104 yds, 2 TD’s) and Cooper Kupp (4 rec, 71 yds, TD) for their third straight win. Brandin Cooks would also have seven receptions for 90 yards for the Rams who dominated the time of possession with 34:16 minutes. The Chargers ended the game with 141 rushing yards with Melvin Gordon leading the charge with 80 yards along with a touchdown while Mike Williams (4 rec, 81 yds, 2 TD’s) would lead the receiving corps in the loss. The Charger offense had two fumbles in the game along with allowing two sacks from Ethan Westbrook and Ndomakong Suh in the contest while Ramik Wilson would lead the defense in tackles with six for the game. With no running game to speak of thus far for the Vikings, the Rams 6th ranked pass defense will zero in on Cousins and a passing attack that is averaging 306 passing yards per game in 2018. However, CB’s Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters are questionable with ankle injuries for the Rams defense for Thursday’s game while LB Dominique Easley is also questionable with a knee injury.
How Minnesota Vikings & Los Angeles Rams Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Minnesota is 1-1-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-2
Los Angeles is 2-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-2
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Rams will certainly be looking to extend their unbeaten streak with a win versus a Vikings team that could get nothing going on the ground versus a Buffalo defense that was essentially pushed around for the first two weeks of the season. Nonetheless, Gurley II and their 6th ranked rushing attack along with Goff and a passing attack that is ranked 4th in the NFL, will look to destroy the Vikings defense, which is allowing teams to score 24 points per game. Again, the Rams offense has ran roughshod over opponents in averaging 34 points per game thus far, however, Minnesota passing attack could possibly make this game interesting if cornerbacks Talib and Peters fail to suit up on Thursday.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Los Angeles Rams -6.5
My reason for the pick :
While anything can happen from week to week in the NFL, I will back the Rams in this contest as they have not only been very consistent on the offensive end, but, they have also been very solid on the defense as well in allowing opponents to score only 12 points per game, good for 1st in the league. In all, look for the Vikings to become a one-dimensional team early as their dismal running game will be taken out of the equation, thus leaving Cousins to utilize his playmakers on the outside to make things happen for the offense. Of course, this will be a formula for disaster in the end, which is why I expect the Rams to win this matchup while covering the spread on Thursday.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 49.5
My reason for the prediction :
There is a possibility that a couple of corner backs in Talib and Marcus Peters may not suit up for this matchup. With that being said, I will have to go with the over in this contest in that this will certainly benefit the road team in that they will be able to more effectively utilize their passing attack that is putting up 305 yards per game. Of course, the Rams will certainly score some points early and often, however, with those corner backs not in the lineup, this game could become a bit more interesting with the Vikings motivated to get a win after their lackluster performance versus the Bills last Sunday. In all, look for this to be a high scoring matchup on Thursday that will certainly entail both teams having fair amounts of opportunities to score.
