Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
New Orleans Saints vs New York Giants
The last time the Saints would meet the Giants, the G-Men picked up the 16-13 home win on September 18, 2016, to where the Saints would cover as 3.5 road underdogs while the total did not surpass 54 points set for the contest. In week four, the Saints will once again visit MetLife Stadium in New York City to battle the New York Giants on Sunday at 4:25 pm EST. The Giants are fresh off their first win of the season versus the Houston Texans as they picked up the 27-22 road win in week three while the Saints would win on the road in an NFC South shootout versus Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons by a 43-37 score.
New Orleans Saints's Latest Performance :
The Saints would come out blazing versus the Falcons in Atlanta last weekend as Drew Brees got the scoring started for New Orleans as he hooked up with Ted Ginn Jr to get the early 7-0 lead while the Saints would only receive three Will Lutz field goals for the rest of the half to go up 16-14, after two Matt Ryan touchdown passes late in the first and second quarters. Ryan and Brees would exchange touchdown passes to begin the second half yet Ryan would hook up with Mohammad Sanu midway through the fourth quarter to give the Falcons the 37-30 lead. Brees would take over at this time in rushing for a seven-yard score to tie the game while taking it to overtime. In overtime, the QB would score on a one-yard touchdown run to seal the victory in yet another exciting division game for the NFC South. Brees would end with 396 yards and three scores (two rushing) while Ryan had 374 yards and five TD’s in the loss. The Saints were able to get the win despite fumbling three times in the contest as well as having 112 yards in penalties. Alvin Kamara had 66 yards rushing while also collecting 124 passing yards on 15 catches. Michael Thomas also had a solid day with 129 yards on ten catches in the win. The saints 6th ranked rushing defense would only allow 48 rush yards to the Falcons while they collected three sacks in the victory.
New York Giants's Latest Performance :
The Giants would get a Saquon Barkley 15-yard rushing touchdown in the first half versus the Texans along with two Aldrick Rojaas field goals in addition to an Eli Manning touchdown pass to Rhett Ellison to go up at the half by a 20-6 score. After two field goals and a touchdown pass from Deshawn Watson to Will Fuller to tighten the lead to 20-15 for Houston, Eli Manning would throw his second touchdown pass of the day to Sterling Shepard to widen the lead to 27-15 and despite an additional touchdown from Watson to Lamar Miller, the Giants would claim the road victory. Manning would be much more efficient in this game as he went 25 of 27 for 297 yards along with two TD’s while Barkley powered in 82 yards rushing on 17 carries and a TD in the win. Odell Beckham Jr ended with 109 yards on nine catches for the Giants, whose offense would rack up 379 yards of total offense; However, TE Evan Engram would leave the game with a knee injury and is questionable for Sunday’s contest. Their defense would collect three sacks in the game while recovering a fumble, however, would allow Watson to put up 285 yards along with two touchdown passes.
How New Orleans Saints & New York Giants Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
New Orleans is 1-2 ATS while the O/U is 2-1
NY Giants are 1-2 ATS while the O/U is 1-2
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Saints would love to continue their momentum from week one while the Giants are seeking to go above .500 after a rough start to the season. Giants fans hope that the win can be a catalyst for the running and passing attacks as Barkley has played his second straight solid game in the backfield while Beckham and company look to continue their solid play on the outside in week four against a Saints defense that is allowing 336 yards per game to their opponents. Barkley may have it more difficult on Sunday as he will have to face a tough rushing defense in the Saints that allow 84 yards on the ground per game. Nonetheless, the Saints will look to continue rolling against the Giants defensive secondary that were picked apart by Watson and the Texans in week three.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: New Orleans -3.5
My reason for the pick :
While the Giants can be given much credit in picking up a much-needed win over Houston last week, they will now face yet another team that will be looking to try their shaky defensive secondary in the Saints. I have no doubt that the offense for New Orleans will come to play in this matchup, however, what concerns me will be the state of the Giants’ offense if Barkley is neutralized by the tough Saints rushing defense. I envision the Saints stacking the box versus Manning and stopping the Giants run game while getting after Manning as a result. Of course, we all know what comes once Manning feels a bit of pressure in the pocket. In all, take the Saints to win the game while covering the spread on the road versus a talented Giants team, yet, one that is soft in the trenches.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 50
My reason for the prediction :
While the Saints will cover in this matchup, look for the total to go over in that both teams will have some opportunities to go downfield in this matchup. Keep an eye on Kamara for the Saints as he serves as a duel threat that can do damage out of the backfield in the run game, or, either in the passing attack as his stats illustrate. Again, look for Brees to spread the ball around to his playmakers on an inconsistent Giants defense while the Giants will also find success versus New Orleans as well, albeit in a losing effort.
