Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
NY Jets vs Jacksonville Jaguars
The New York Jets will travel to TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida, to battle the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday at 1 pm EST in week four NFL action. In their last outing, the Jets suffered a 21-17 road loss to the Cleveland Browns as they were outscored 18-3 in the second half en route to their second loss of the season. Also, the Jaguars only received two Josh Lambo field goals in their 9-6 road loss to the Tennessee Titans last Sunday while the offense went stagnant in racking up only 87 yards on the ground while having only 232 total yards for the game. On December 31, 2017, the Jets picked up a slim 23-20 home win over the Jaguars on a Chandler Catanzaro 41-yard field goal to seal the victory with :28 seconds left. The Jets covered the spread as four-point home underdogs while the over was the play with the total being set at 38.5 points for the game.
NY Jets 's Latest Performance :
While the Jets would go in at the half with a 14-3 lead over the Browns last Sunday, two Carlos Hyde touchdowns along with a Greg Joseph field goal would seal the victory for Cleveland in a game where the Jets would end with 107 yards on the ground along with 161 yards passing for the contest. Sam Darnold would throw two interceptions while throwing for 169 yards while Bilal Powell led the rushing attack for New York with 73 yards total in the loss. Quincy Enunwa finished the game with 57 yards on four catches for the Jets. Darnold and company now seeks to exploit the 3rd ranked pass defense in the league in the Jaguars while hoping to get their 14th ranked rushing attack going against the 21st ranked Jaguar rush defense that allowed 150 yards on the ground to the Tennessee Titans in their last outing.
Jacksonville Jaguars's Latest Performance :
Ryan Succop and Josh Lambo would trade field goals throughout the game as Succop kicked the most important one of the game, a 28-yard field goal, that gave the Titans the win in what was a defensive minded battle to the end. The Titans would end with 232 yards of offense while the Jaguars finished with 233 for the game as Blake Bortles (155 yards) and TJ Yeldon (44 yards, seven carries) led the offense in the loss. Yeldon also led the receiving corps with 46 yards on six catches for Jacksonville, who also allowed three sacks on Bortles along with a lost fumble. Calais Campbell had two sacks for the Jacksonville defense while Telvin Smith led the defensive unit in tackles with eight total, however, Campbell will be day to day with an ankle injury. The Jaguars continue to remain in the top 15 in the league in rushing yards per game with 109 yards per game, however, their passing attack would slip to 18th in the NFL with 230 yards in the air per outing. The Jets defense has locked their opponents down from the start of the season as they allow only 306 total yards while giving up only 19.3 points per game.
How NY Jets & Jacksonville Jaguars Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
New York is 1-2 ATS while the O/U is 1-2
Jacksonville is 2-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-2
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Jaguars followed up a great win versus the Patriots the week prior with a dud versus a Titans team that has struggled to score all season. With that being said, they look to regain their spark as it relates to their running game against a Jets defense that is allowing 102 yards per game. Also, since the Jags are struggling to put points on the board, they may find it difficult versus a Jets team that allowed 306 yards to their opponents per game. The Jets are middle of the road in passing along with rushing offense and will look to gain some control in the trenches against a Jacksonville defensive unit ranked 4th in the league in allowing only 286 total yards to their opponents in 2018.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars -8
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Jaguars in this matchup despite both teams finding it difficult to move the ball lately. Nonetheless, I happen to believe the Jags have much more potential on the offensive end due to their running game along with their offensive line. In all, look for the home team to get back to basics in this matchup while utilizing their toughness in the trenches in which to move the ball more effectively versus a middle of the road Jets run defense. Look for the Jags to confuse Darnold with their 3rd ranked pass defense on their way to covering the spread in this contest.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 38
My reason for the prediction :
There will not be many points scored in this contest as both defenses have defended well thus far in 2018. Besides, both teams are run oriented offenses that will take their shots downfield, however, will rely mostly on their running game to move the ball. With that being the case, this contest will be a battle in the trenches throughout as both teams will fight to establish themselves on the ground before utilizing their passing attack. Nonetheless, look for the under to be the strong play in this instance.
