Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Atlanta Falcons vs Pittsburgh Steelers

The Atlanta Falcons will travel to Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to match up with the Pittsburgh Steelers in week five of the NFL season on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm EST.  The Falcons lost a heart-breaker at home by a 37-36 score to the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday as Andy Dalton connected with AJ Green to seal the victory in the final seconds of the contest while the Steelers continue to struggle on both sides of the ball as they suffered a 26-14 home loss to division rival Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night.  The last time these two teams met was on December 14, 2014 as the Steelers went on the road to beat Atlanta by a 27-20 score as Pittsburgh took a 20-7 halftime lead while Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown were the stars for the road team in passing for 360 total yards along with having 123 receiving yards in the win while Le’veon Bell ended with two rushing TD’s.

Atlanta Falcons's Latest Performance :

Atlanta held a slim, 36-31 lead with only 4:15 minutes remaining in the game, however, could not hold on to get the victory as Andy Dalton found A.J. Green in the end zone with :07 seconds left to get out of Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta with a win last Sunday.  Dalton ended the game with 337 yards along with three TD’s, along with a pick in the win while Green racked up 78 total yards for the Bengals as the Falcons 25th ranked defense was scorched, once again, for the loss.  Mattt Ryan (419 yds, 3 TD’s) also scorched the awful pass defense for the Bengals as Julio Jones (173 yds, nine rec) and Mohammed Sanu (111 yds, six rec) would find themselves on the receiving end of a total of 15 passes for Atlanta while its 21st ranked rushing attack only mustered 92 yards with Tevin Coleman having 51 yards total in the loss.  Their 26th ranked rush defense allowed the Bengals 99 rushing yards for the game along with two rushing TD’s.  In all, this was the Falcons’ second game straight to where they allowed 30 or more points to their opponents, with each resulting in losses.  Unfortunately, the pass rush for the Falcons may indeed suffer as Grady Jarrett and Vic Beasley Jr are dealing with ankle injuries and are questionable for Sunday’s matchup.

Pittsburgh Steelers's Latest Performance :

Pittsburgh’s offense was shut out in the second half as the Ravens outscored them 12-0 en route to a huge AFC North win last Sunday night.  With only 19 yards rushing for the Steelers’ 28th ranked rushing attack, Roethlisberger and their 3rd ranked passing attack had to work overtime to keep the home team in the game.  However, he would only have 274 yards passing along with a touchdown while Antonio Brown only had 62 yards and a score as the Ravens’ stingy defense collected a sack along with a recovered fumble while also allowing the Steelers to hold the ball for only 24:57 minutes for the game.  The 30th ranked defense in points allowed in the Steelers gave up 439 yards to Flacco and the Ravens as he threw for 363 yards total with two touchdown tosses.  The Pittsburgh defensive unit, however, collected two sacks along with recovering a fumble in the game while also allowing the Ravens to covert in only one of five attempts within the red zone in the loss.

How Atlanta Falcons & Pittsburgh Steelers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Pittsburgh is 1-3 ATS while the O/U is 3-1

Atlanta is 1-3 ATS while the O/U is 3-1

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Defensively, both teams are struggling at this point in the season and certainly could use a win.  In all, this game will look much like a sprint to the finish as Roethlisberger and Ryan will have field days in the passing game.  Also, with both teams also being ranked in the lower tier of the NFL in stopping the run while also ranking low as it relates to rushing yards per game, overall, it almost seems as if the last team that has the ball will potentially have the best chance of winning the game, much like the Falcons’ matchup with the Bengals last weekend.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Atlanta Falcons +3

My reason for the pick :

Pittsburgh’s problems seem to be their lack of a credible rushing game that can complement Roethlisberger in the backfield.  On the other hand, Coleman serves as available option for Atlanta for their ground attack in which to keep opposing defenses honest.  With that being the case, I will expect the Falcons to atone for their terrible loss at home last weekend in getting a win from a Steelers squad that is not only beginning to fall behind in the division, but, dissention is also starting to creep in amongst the ranks within the offense which, as we know, can certainly cause additional problems over time for Pittsburgh.  In all, the Falcons will indeed cover the spread as underdogs in this matchup as Ryan and Jones continue to produce more and more with every week that passes, despite their awful record.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Over 57.5

My reason for the prediction :

As stated, I expect this game to be a high scoring affair to where both teams will have more than enough opportunities to score.  Both passing attacks are ranked in the top ten while having numerous playmakers that can change the entire complexity of a game.  With that being the case, look for the over to be the result in this matchup as Ryan and Roethlisberger will have solid outings versus two horrible defensive secondaries on Sunday afternoon.
