Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Green Bay Packers vs Detroit Lions
The Green Bay Packers will travel to Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, for an NFC North battle versus the Detroit Lions on Sunday at 1 pm EST. The last time these two teams met was on December 31, 2017 as the Lions picked up the 35-11 home win as Matthew Stafford threw for 303 yards along with three touchdown passes with one being to Golden Tate, who would lead the receiving corps with 104 yards on seven catches in the victory. Tate led the Lions in receiving in their last outing versus the Dallas Cowboys on the road yet they suffered a 26-24 loss as Tate had eight catches for 132 yards total in defeat. The Packers, on the other hand, picked up a 22-0 home win over the Buffalo Bills last Sunday as Aaron Rodgers threw for a touchdown pass while Aaron Jones scored a rushing touchdown. Mason Crosby chipped in three field goals in the shutout victory.
Green Bay Packers's Latest Performance :
Green Bay was on cruise control last Sunday versus the lowly Bills as Aaron Rodgers threw for 298 yards along with a touchdown pass to Jimmy Graham to put the home team up 6-0 after the PAT failed. Rodgers also threw a pick in the game Geronimo Allison (6 rec, 80 yds) led the receiving corps in the victory. Green Bay’s 19th ranked rushing attack garnered 141 yards on a soft Buffalo defense marred in injury as Jones had 65 yards on 11 carries while Rodgers also had 31 yards on the ground on five rushes. The offense would allow two sacks along with a lost fumble yet would be two of three inside the red zone for the day. Unfortunately for the Packers, Allison along with Randall Cobb are both questionable for the receiving corps with hamstring and concussion injuries. The defense for the Packers had a stellar game in allowing only 145 total yards to the Bills as Jaire Alexander along with Ha Ha Clinton Dix each had a pick off Josh Allen while Kyler Fackrell had three sacks on the day for a defense that collected seven total sacks in the game. Jaire Anderson may not suit up versus the Lions due to groin issues.
Detroit Lions 's Latest Performance :
The Lions hit a wall after their momentous victory at home over the Patriots as Brett Mahre kicked a 38-yard field goal for Dallas after Stafford hooked up with Golden Tate to give the road team a slim, one-point advantage with 2:17 remaining in the fourth to seal the victory for Dallas. Stafford ended the game with 307 yards and two TD’s in the loss while Tate had two scores in the air yet Kenny Golladay (4 rec, 74 yds) led the passing attack for Detroit. Nonetheless, the Lions allowed three sacks in the contest while their 20th ranked rushing attack was dismal yet again in gaining only 96 yards on the ground with Kerryon Johnson collecting 55 yards on nine carries. Moving the ball could get much tougher for the Lions as guard C.J. Lang is questionable after he suffered a concussion last Sunday and may not suit up for Detroit. The defense for Detroit, ranked dead last in the league in rushing yards allowed, gave up 183 yards as Ezekiel Elliot gained 152 yards on 25 carries for Dallas while they also allowed 255 yards passing along with two passing touchdowns to Dallas with one being to Elliot to put the home team up by a 13-10 score late in the second quarter. The eighth ranked team in total yards allowed per game in Detroit collected three sacks in the game, however, they are currently allowing opponents to score 28.5 points per game in 2018. They will now face Rodgers and a 14th ranked Packer passing game averaging 269 yards per game possibly without safety Tavon Wilson (back) along with corner backs Quandre Diggs (hand) and Darius Clay (lower body) who are all questionable with injuries.
How Green Bay Packers & Detroit Lions Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Green Bay is 2-2 ATS while the O/U is 3-1
Detroit is 3-1 ATS while the O/U is 3-1
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Packers look to utilize their passing game in which to pick up a win versus the Lions on Sunday afternoon. Of course, Green Bay has not been very consistent on the offensive end thus far in the season, however, the Lions defense may indeed be thin within their secondary with some critical pieces dealing with injuries. The rushing attack for Green Bay may also be effective as the Lions have been horrible in stopping the run all season as well. Furthermore, for a Packers team that puts up only 102 yards total per game, this matchup works very well for the road team, overall. Nonetheless, Detroit’s 10th ranked passing attack will also be in a battle versus the Packers 7th ranked pass defense which will certainly make the game interesting, especially is Diggs, Wilson, and Clay are not able to suit up.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Green Bay Packers -1.5
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Packers in this game as the Lions have proven that they cannot stop the run consistently. Combine this with the fact that the Lions may also be without members of their stellar defensive secondary on Sunday could very well signify yet another loss for the Detroit. The Packers were not overly outstanding versus the Bills last Sunday; however, they took care of businesses. With that being said, they will also take care of business versus Detroit on Sunday afternoon as Green Bay’s seventh ranked pass defense will neutralize Stafford and Tate to win their second straight.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 50.5
My reason for the prediction :
Though I believe that scores will be put up by both teams in this contest, I happen to believe that both teams heavily rely on their passing games to move the ball. Also, with the types of pass defenses each team possesses, I will not bet on the score ballooning to over fifty points in this contest. With that being said, the Packers will indeed have some help moving the football with Detroit being so awful in preventing teams from running roughshod over them on the ground. In all, look for the road team to eat up loads of clock in this matchup to shore up their rushing attack on their way to a victory.
