Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Miami Dolphins vs Cincinnati Bengals

The Miami Dolphins will travel to Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio, to battle the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm EST in week five NFL action.  The last time these two teams met was on September 29, 2016 when they Bengals picked up a 22-7 home win to where Cincinnati covered the spread as seven-point home favorites while the under was the play as the total was set at 46.5 points for the game.  After going 3-0 to begin the season, the Dolphins suffered a huge 38-7 setback versus a New England Patriots team that lost two straight games entering their week four matchup.  They were not able to cover as 6.5 road underdogs while the under was the result with the total being set at 50.5 points for the game.  On the other hand, the Bengals pulled out a 37-36 road victory over the Atlanta Falcons as Andy Dalton connected with AJ Green with :07 seconds remaining in the game to pull out the high-scoring, yet, slim victory.

Miami Dolphins's Latest Performance :

The Dolphins could not find answers on either side of the ball versus the Patriots as they fell behind 24-0 at the half as their 25th ranked pass defense was scorched by Tom Brady, who threw two touchdown passes in the opening half while James White scored on a 22-yard scamper as the home team cruised to victory over their AFC division foe last Sunday.  The defense also allowed the Patriots to run the ball at will as they collected 175 yards on the ground as Sony Michel rushed 25 times for 112 yards and a score in the win.  Jerome Baker led the defensive unit with six tackles and four assists as Miami came into the game with the 16th ranked defense in points allowed with 22.5.  The offense for Miami was horrible as they racked up only 172 yards of total offense as Ryan Tannehill threw for 100 yards and a pick to J.C. Jackson.  Brock Osweiler received time under center as he went four of five for 25 yards and a score, a six yards TD pass to Frank Gore that made the score 38-7 with only 2:42 remaining in the game.  The Dolphins also fumbled once in this matchup while racking up 89 yards in penalties as they will certainly look to get the taste of this loss out of their mouths (not to mention heads) with a road trip to Cincinnati on Sunday.  They may, however, make the trip without cornerback Bobby McCain suiting up as he is day to day with a knee injury while the offense may be without center Daniel Kilgore, who is day to day with an arm injury.

Cincinnati Bengals's Latest Performance :

Dalton ended the game with 337 passing yards while connecting with Tyler Eifert (4 rec, 38 yds, TD), John Ross (2 rec, 52 yds, TD), and Green (4 rec, 78 yds, TD) while Tyler Boyd led the receiving corps with 11 catches for 100 yards total for the game.   Giovanni Bernard rushed for 69 yards on 15 carries as the Bengals collected 99 yards on the ground for the game.  In all, Cincinnati went four for five inside the red zone while Dalton was sacked a total of three times during the contest.  The pass defense for the Bengals continue to struggle as they allowed 419 total yards to the Falcons as Matt Ryan threw three touchdown passes during the contest while the defense recorded three sacks for the night while giving up over 500 total yards of offense in the win.  The bad news for the Bengals is that Tyler Eifert is day to day with a leg injury and uncertain for their duel with the Dolphins next Sunday.  However, the 29th ranked defense in total yards allowed will certainly get a lift from the return of Vontez Burfect which will make his 2018 debut from his four-game suspension.

How Miami Dolphins & Cincinnati Bengals Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Miami is 3-1 ATS while the O/U is 2-2

Cincinnati is 3-1 ATS while the O/U is 4-0

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Cincinnati continues to ride high after their momentum building win over the Falcons on the road last Sunday while the Dolphins took a huge step back with their embarrassing loss at the hands of what was thought of as being a struggling Patriots team during a week four collapse.  And while the defense certainly did not play well at Gillette Stadium, things may not get much better in their next matchup as the Bengals have their fair share of weapons in Dalton and Green, for example, along with an offense that is ranked 5th in the league in total points scored with 31.5 per game.  The Dolphins may, however, get their passing game back on track as the Bengals are allowing 303.5 yards per game to their opponents.  The rushing game for Miami is only averaging 88 yards per game, yet, with Kilgore possibly a no go at center for the offense, they may not be able to take advantage of a Bengals rush defense that allows 115.8 yards per outing.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Cincinnati Bengals -5.5

My reason for the pick :

I will have to back the Bengals in this game as they will certainly have tons of momentum on their side when they face a Dolphins team that may have some ongoing issues on the offensive end after their showing versus New England in week four.  As stated, the Dolphins may be able to exploit Cincinnati’s pass defense in this matchup, however, with Tannehill struggling in his last outing along with the rushing game nearly nonexistent, they will simply not be able to keep up with a Bengals offense that is essentially built to score.  In all, I will take the home team to cruise to victory over the Dolphins as they were exposed on offense by the Patriots in their last time out.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Over 50.5

My reason for the prediction :

Of course, I see the Bengals scoring points in this matchup versus a Dolphins defense that suddenly seemed as if they could not stop the run or pass in week four.  However, with the Bengals defense allowing over 28 points to their opponents, the Dolphins can certainly gain some confidence in this matchup as their offense will certainly need to score some points to keep up with this Bengals squad, as stated.  In all, the over will certainly be the call in this game as the over has been the result for both teams in recent outings.
