Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Denver Broncos vs NY Jets Preview

The Denver Broncos will travel to MetLife Stadium in New York City for a week five showdown with the NY Jets on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm EST.  These two teams last met on December 10, 2017 as the Broncos picked up the 23-0 home win as the Denver defense collected four sacks for the game along with a recovered fumble and an interception while allowing the Jets to hold the ball for a total of only 22:25 minutes in the loss.  The Broncos lost at home in week four as they fell by a 27-23 score on Monday night as the defense gave up 142 yards rushing in the loss as Kareem Hunt rushed for a touchdown with 1:39 remaining in the game to seal the victory.  The Jets put up only twelve points on the road versus the Jaguars last Sunday as they suffered a 31-12 road loss as the offense was horrible in racking up only 178 yards of total offense while giving up over 500 yards in total offense in defeat.

Denver Broncos's Latest Performance :

Denver possessed a 23-13 lead at the beginning of the final quarter in their Monday night loss, only to allow a Patrick Mahomes touchdown pass to Travis Kelce along with a four-yard run from Kareem Hunt to seal the victory in their 27-23 loss.  Case Keenum threw for 245 yards along with an interception while the team collected 159 yards total on the ground with Phillip Lindsey and Royce Freeman combining for 20 rushes for 136 yards and two touchdown runs.  Denver also went two of three inside the red zone for the night yet allowed four sacks as they possessed the ball for 24:58 minutes.  Pat Mahomes had 304 yards passing for Kansas City while the Broncos’ 8th ranked rush defense allowed 142 rushing yards total on the ground to the Chiefs who controlled the trenches late in the game.  In all, they will look to challenge a Jets defense that has also been outstanding in stopping the run as well as the pass this season on Sunday.

NY Jets Preview's Latest Performance :

The Jets’ passing game only collected 144 yards as Sam Darnold threw for a touchdown as the Jets fell to Jacksonville in week four.  Quincy Enuwa had 66 yards on four catches for the game while New York’s 26th ranked rushing attack obtained only 44 yards on the ground with Bilal Powell leading the way with a mere 26 yards total.  Darnold was also sacked three times in the matchup as the Jets are now ranked 29th in the NFL in averaging only 289 total yards per game.  Their 14th ranked defense would allow 503 total yards to Jacksonville while their 16th ranked rush defense gave up 126 yards on the ground along with allowing 377 yards to Blake Bortles (2 TD’s, INT) in the loss despite having recovered two fumbles in the matchup while also having two sacks for the game.  Cornerback Morris Claiborne (stomach) along with linebacker Josh Martin (concussion) are each day to day and uncertain for their next matchup versus the Broncos.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Denver is 0-3-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-3

New York is 1-3 ATS while the O/U is 2-2

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Both teams will certainly be looking to get a win in which to get back into the win column as well as gain some type of positive momentum going on Sunday afternoon.  What will be interesting will be how/if Denver will be able to utilize their 3rd ranked rushing attack on a Jets defensive front that has really been solid (up until their last matchup with the Jags) in stopping the run.  Also, with the Broncos’ defense ranking within the top ten in stopping the run, can the Jets somehow take some pressure of Darnold in which to get some semblance of a rushing attack to keep the Broncos honest on defense?  All these questions will indeed be asked a these teams will need to bring their A game in which to succeed in week five.

Against The Spread Selection: PIck: NY Jets -2

My reason for the pick :

I will back the home team in this contest as the offense for the Jets will be looking to exert much more focus in this matchup to make up for their terrible outing last Sunday versus Jacksonville on the road.  With that being said, expect the offensive line to provide some space for Powell to operate within the running game while Darnold should also have a solid game versus a Broncos defense that gave up 300 yards to Mahomes on Monday night.  In all, look for the Jets to cover the small spread over a Broncos team that has fared well in their rushing attack, however, despite their top ten ranking in stopping the run, has not done well in their last few games in doing so.

Totals Selection: Under: 43.5

My reason for the prediction :

I will ride with the under in this contest as both defenses, for the most part, have been solid particularly as it relates to their run defenses which can certainly serve to bottle up both of the offenses in this matchup as their offensive game plan revolves around establishing the running attack in which to set up the pass.  With that being said, neither Keenum of Darnold will not take over a game with their passing efficiency which means that this contest will be a game to where the defenses will take control of the trenches while allowing this matchup to be a low-scoring affair.
