Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Jacksonville Jaguars vs Kansas City Chiefs
The Jacksonville Jaguars will visit Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, for a week five matchup versus the offensive minded Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm EST. These squads would last meet in November 6, 2016 as the Chiefs picked up the 19-14 home win while not being able to cover the spread as seven-point favorites while the under was the play with the total being set at 43 points for the game. The Jags enter this game on a high after destroying the NY Jets at home by a 31-12 score at home as Blake Bortles and the offense collected 503 total offensive yards in the victory while allowing the Jets to obtain only 178 yards for the contest. The Chiefs picked up a 27-23 home win over the Denver Broncos in an AFC West showdown on Monday night as Mahomes along with Kareem Hunt continued to impress in the offensive attack while leading Kansas City to yet another victory.
Jacksonville Jaguars's Latest Performance :
Blake Bortles and the Jacksonville offense was unstoppable last Sunday as he threw for 388 yards along with two touchdowns versus the Jets at home, while the 13th ranked rushing attack had 128 yards rushing with TJ Yeldon leading the attack with 52 yards on 18 carries and a TD. Dede Westbrook and Donte Moncrief combined for 14 catches for a total of 239 yards along with a TD in the victory. In all, the Jags lost two fumbles while allowing two total sacks for the day along with racking up 89 yards of penalties; However, held the ball for 37:35 minutes while improving in each offensive category, most importantly, points scored per game (22 ppg). Unfortunately, lineman Brandon Linder is day to day with a back injury and is uncertain to be available for this matchup on Sunday. The defense also improved in allowing the Jets to obtain well under 200 yards in the contest as the rushing game was allowed only 44 yards against the 10th ranked rushing defense for Jacksonville. Sam Darnold finished with 145 yards versus the top ranked pass defense in the league in allowing only 164 yards per game to their opponents. Furthermore, the Jags are also first in total yards allowed with 259 yards while also ranking first in points allowed with 14 points per.
Kansas City Chiefs's Latest Performance :
The Chiefs show much resilience on Monday night as they rallied from a ten-point deficit on the strength of a touchdown pass from Pat Mahomes to Travis Kelce while they sealing the victory with a four-yard touchdown run by Kareem Hunt to remain undefeated. Aside from getting 304 yards out of their offense with Mahomes, the rushing attack continued to be effective for the Chiefs as Hunt led the way with 121 yards in the victory. Kelce led the receiving corps with 78 yards and a score for an offense that ranks first in points scored for game with 36 points per outing. The Chiefs defense, on the other hand, allowed 159 yards on the ground to the Broncos while also allowing them to convert on two of three third down conversions for the game. They may suffer, however, if linebacker Dee Ford is not able to play as he is day to day with a groin injury. The offense will now face one of the stingiest defenses in the league in Jacksonville, which ranks number one in the league in overall points allowed by opponents.
How Jacksonville Jaguars & Kansas City Chiefs Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Jacksonville is 3-1 ATS while the O/U is 2-2
Kansas City is 4-0 ATS while the O/U is 3-1
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Of course, this matchup will be one of the headlines for the week five slate as the tough and physical Jags will travel to Arrowhead Stadium with the goal of preventing the Chiefs from going 5-0 on Sunday afternoon. This will be a battle in the trenches as the home team will look to utilize their running strategy from the start. However, they will certainly find this difficult as the Jaguars defense is ranked in the top ten in every category while also looking to make a statement to the league that they are ready to not only take the next step both in the regular season as well as in the postseason. In all, with rain expected for the contest, look for both running games to be he center of attention on offense.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Kansas City Chiefs -3.5
My reason for the pick :
As much as I respect the Jags and their hard-hitting defense, I must back the home team with the points in this instance in that they not only have the home crowd at Arrowhead behind them, but, they also have a rushing game that has been very reliable throughout this young season. On the other hand, with Mahomes continuing to impress, the home team also has an added element to their offensive attack that will certainly play into their favor in this game. Of course, they certainly will not reach their average for points scored, however, expect the Chiefs to get some necessary scores early and down the stretch to pull out a victory while cashing in on the spread.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 48.5
My reason for the prediction :
Again, with rain being in the forecast, I will back the under in this contest as I feel as though the Jags and the Chiefs will concentrate on running the ball as much as possible while only passing when it’s necessary. With that being said, the team that can win in the trenches late in the game will certainly have an opportunity to pick up a hard-fought victory while carrying huge amounts of momentum from a win versus an offensive attack that continues to get better week after week.
