Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Minnesota Vikings vs Philadelphia Eagles
The Minnesota Vikings will take on the Philadelphia Eagles in week five at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, beginning at 4:25 pm EST. The Vikings’ last loss came at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams last Thursday as they covered the spread as 7.5-point underdogs while the over of 48.5 points was surpassed as both Kirk Cousins and Jared Goff combined for 887 yards passing along with eight TD passes in the 38-31 road loss. The Eagles suffered a 26-23 overtime road loss to the Titans as Marcus Mariota threw a late 10 yard touchdown pass to Corey Davis to seal the victory in week four. The last time these teams met was on January 21, 2018 as the Eagles picked up a 38-7 win as they went up 24-7 at the half while cruising to the victory as the Eagles obtained 456 total yards in the win.
Minnesota Vikings's Latest Performance :
Minnesota’s Kirk Cousins did his best to keep the Vikings in the game versus the Rams their last time out in throwing for 422 yards and three TD passes, however, Jared Goff picked apart a dismal defensive secondary for the road team in throwing for 465 yards and five TD’s. The Rams also had 100 yards rushing in the contest with Todd Gurley II having 83 yards on 17 carries while the Vikings’ 32nd ranked rushing attack was led by Cousins with 28 yards rushing for the game. The Vikings have lost two straight games to where they would allow at least 27 points to their opponents. And while the Eagles are averaging 21 points per game, this will certainly change with Carson Wentz back into the lineup. Cousins and company may have some success in this outing in that the pass defense for the Eagles are allowing 272 passing yards per outing.
Philadelphia Eagles's Latest Performance :
The Eagles’ defense allowed the Titans to score ten points in the fourth quarter to force overtime while Marcus Mariota threw a touchdown pass to allow the Titans to win their third straight victory. Nonetheless, Carson Wentz had a great day under center in throwing for 348 yards along with two touchdowns while the running game racked up 117 yards in the contest with Jay Ajayi having 15 rushes for 71 yards. And while the defense for the Eagles bottled up the Titans rushing attack in giving up 70 yards, Mariota threw for 344 yards and two touchdowns in the win. The Eagles will look to challenge a shaky pass secondary for the Vikings that allow 278 yards per contest to their opponents. On the other hand, Philly’s 11th ranked rushing attack will square off against Minnesota’s rush defense that allows 104 yards per game.
How Minnesota Vikings & Philadelphia Eagles Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Minnesota is 2-2 ATS while the O/U is 2-2
Philadelphia is 1-3 ATS while the O/U is 2-2
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will certainly be an interesting matchup as both teams are looking to get back on track after close week four losses. Wentz is back in the lineup for Philadelphia while Cousins continues to utilize his playmaker in Adam Thielen to create scoring opportunities for the Vikings’ offense. In all, this should be a high-scoring affair as both offenses have done well in the scoring department in the past two weeks, however, their defense has not been able to stop their opponents from scoring, either. The Vikings will certainly need to get their running game on track as they are averaging just 63 yards per game, however, this will not be easy versus a Philadelphia defense that is allowing only 64 yards per outing on the season.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Philadelphia Eagles -3
My reason for the pick :
With no running game to speak of, Minnesota will indeed struggle versus an Eagles defense that is ranked in the top ten in total yards allowed with 335 yards per outing while only allowing 20 points per game. With that being the case, look for the Eagles to soar in this matchup as they will cover the spread over a one-dimensional Vikings squad as they will step up the pressure on Cousins in hopes of obtaining turnovers that can lead to scoring opportunities. In all, the home team will cash in on the small spread while also look for the score to soar as well between these two squads.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 44.5
My reason for the prediction :
I will back the over in this matchup as the Eagles will certainly shore up their passing attack with Wentz back in the lineup. Also, with the Vikings allowing teams to exploit their pass secondary, this game has the potential of getting out of hand quickly on Sunday. Of course, Philly has had its problems as well in defending the pass, so, the Vikings may indeed have success in this area. Nonetheless, both teams will have some opportunities to score in this matchup as the total will surpass 45 points. Nonetheless, the Eagles will be more effective at capitalizing on those opportunities.
