Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Washington Redskins vs New Orleans Saints

The Washington Redskins will travel to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana, to face the New Orleans Saints to wrap up the week five NFL slate on Monday night beginning at 8:15 pm EST.  The Redskins had a bye in week four, yet, picked up a 31-17 home win over the Green Bay Packers as they went into the half up by a 24-10 score while cruising to victory in the second half.  The rushing game for the Skins racked up 166 yards on the ground in the matchup while the defense stifled Aaron Rodgers and the Packer offense as Rodgers was sacked four times while throwing a pick in the loss.  The Saints picked up a huge 33-18 road win over the Giants last Sunday as Alvin Kamara rushed for 134 yards along with three touchdowns in the win while Saquon Barkley was held in check by a Saints defense that allowed just 65 yards total to the home team.  These two teams last met on November 19, 2017 as the Saints picked up the slim 34-31-point home win as Will Lutz kicked a 28-yard field goal to seal the victory.  Both teams each had over 400 yards of total offense in this game while the Saints had 188 return yards for the contest.

Washington Redskins's Latest Performance :

The Redskins are well rested and looking forward to the opportunity to tame Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints on Monday night.  They took down Aaron Rodgers at home in week three as their defense allowed only 240 yards passing while sacking Rodgers four times in the win.  This weekend, they will look to reignite their passing game that is currently ranked 5th in the league in averaging 138 yards per game; However, the Saints are ranked 3rd in the league in stopping the run in giving up only 79.5 yards to their opponents.  And with the Skins possibly getting back some players on both sides of the ball that have been dealing with injury, expect them to be solid versus an offensive minded squad in the Saints.  Cornerback Josh Norman (hamstring) is questionable, however, for Washington’s defense while tackles Morgan Moses and Trent Williams are also questionable for this matchup.  Running backs Samaje Perrine (questionable-ankle) and Adrian Peterson (probable-ankle) have also had to deal with injuries lately, yet, Peterson is expected to play.

New Orleans Saints's Latest Performance :

The Saints went up 26-10 on the road over the NY Giants after an Alvin Kamara four-yard run as the Saints dominated in a week four win.  Kamara was the star of the game in collecting 134 yards on 19 carries along with three touchdown passes while Drew Brees threw for 217 yards.  Furthermore, Josh Hill led the receiving corps with 63 yards total as the Saints won despite converting only two of six attempts inside the red zone.  New Orleans will have a tough time cracking this Redskins defense as they are ranked in the top ten in every major defensive category while the Saints are ranked in the top ten in just about every offensive category except in yards rushing per game (18th, 105 yds/per game).  It will be interesting to see if the Saints, who are averaging 34 points per game, can somehow create some scoring opportunities versus a Washington defense that is allowing 14.7 points to their opponents.

How Washington Redskins & New Orleans Saints Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

New Orleans is 2-2 ATS while the O/U is 2-2

Washington is 2-1 ATS while the O/U is 1-2

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

New Orleans will be looking to garner more momentum at home as the Redskins come to town on Monday night.  And while Washington will not have played in over two weeks by this time, they must ensure that they come out with focus and intensity in aggressively attacking this Saints offense in which to get them off the field.  As stated, it will be interesting to see exactly how both teams will carry out the execution of their running attacks versus two solid defenses that has stuffed the rushing attacks of their opponents thus far in the season.  Also, Washington may indeed suffer if Norman does not suit up on defense while Alex Smith may suffer if his tackles cannot suit up due to injury.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  New Orleans -6.5

My reason for the pick :

While the Saints can certainly put points on the board, I will back the Redskins with the plus points in that they have the slightly better and more aggressive defense that can possibly slow down Brees and company enough to slow this game down a bit while allowing them to keep things close.  Besides, Washington has a tough rushing attack to rely on that will certainly compliment Smith’s style of play throughout the year.  In all, look for the road team to keep things close while possibly pulling out the win.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 52.5

My reason for the prediction :

I will go with the under in this contest on the strength of both defenses.  The Redskins are 23rd in points scored with 21 points per game while being ranked in the top ten in every other offensive category.  On the other hand, New Orleans is allowing 30 points per game to their opponents.  With that being said, while both teams will put some points on the board on Monday night, look for the under to be the play in that the Washington defense is much better than one may think.  Also, I consider the Saints most recently home game to where Cleveland would almost pull out a victory in a low-scoring affair, yet a late field goal would save New Orleans from the loss.  Nonetheless, I will back the under to be the strong play as the Skins will be able to slow down this game with an effective running game along with a stout defense.
