Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Jacksonville Jaguars vs Dallas Cowboys

The Jacksonville Jaguars will invade AT&T Stadium in Irving, Texas, for a week six showdown with the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon at 4:25 pm EST.  The Jaguars suffered a 30-14 road loss to the Kansas City Chiefs as they were shut out in the first half in going down at the break by a 20-0 score while never recovering as they lost their second game in three outings.  The Cowboys are also coming off a three-point, 19-16  overtime road loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday night as Ka’ami Fairbairn kicked the game winning 36 yarder in overtime to seal the victory for the Texans while also handing the cowboys their second loss in three outings.  The last time these teams met was on November 9, 2014 as the Cowboys picked up the 31-17 road win as they covered as 7.5 road favorites.  In all, the over has been the play in the last four meetings amongst these teams.

Jacksonville Jaguars's Latest Performance :

Blake Bortles provided the only scores for the Jaguars in their blowout loss at Arrowhead Stadium as he connected with TJ Yeldon for a 14-yard score in the third period to allow the Jags their first points of the game while making the score 23-7.  He later scampered 21 yards for a score that would end the scoring for Jacksonville on the day as their offense could not overcome five turnovers along with five sacks in a game where they were dominated by the Chiefs on both sides of the ball.  And while Bortles threw for 430 yards and a touchdown in the win, his four picks were costly as Chris Jones was the recipient of one of his errant passes and returned it twenty yards for a score late in the second period.

The rushing attack obtained 101 yards for the game with TJ Yeldon having 53 yards on ten rushes, however, the offense was charged with a fumble in the loss while only converting one of five times within the red zone.  The Chiefs were dominant in this contest despite collecting 105 penalty yards while the Jaguars, in their last two losses, have averaged ten points while allowing their opponents a tad less than twenty points during this time.  In all, the Jags have been up and down all season while maintaining an average of 20.4 points per game.  They may struggle even more on the offensive end as offensive lineman Josh Wells is day to day with a groin injury and uncertain to play.

Dallas Cowboys's Latest Performance :

The Cowboys could get anything going on offense on Sunday night versus the Texans as they collected only 14 first downs for the game while racking up 292 yards of total offense in the contest.  Dallas’ rushing attack, which entered the game averaging 136 yards per game, could only muster 98 yards versus the Texans as Ezekiel Elliot had 54 yards on 20 carries.  On the other hand, Dallas’ 30th ranked passing attack put up only 208 yard in the air as Dak Prescott also threw a touchdown pass along with two interceptions in the loss.  The Dallas defensive secondary was torched by Deshaun Watson as he threw for 375 yards along with a touchdown and an interception in the slim victory for the Texans while Alfred Blue led the rushing attack for Houston with 46 yards on 20 attempts.  Furthermore, the Dallas defense allowed only a 17% conversion rate in the red zone for the game.  In all, Dallas has scored twenty points or less in four of their five games in 2018.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This game entails two teams that has had its fair share of troubles on the offensive end this year.  Their saving grace has been their defense as they are ranked in the top ten in points allowed with Jacksonville (4th) and Dallas (6th) surrendering a combined average of 18 points per game in 2018.  Of course, with their offenses putting up 18 points per game for the year, while their defense may be exceptional, the fact remains that they are each average teams.  Dallas, however, is undefeated at home this year where they are averaging 23 points while the Jags have only put up 17 points per game in their only two road games of the year.  In all, I see this matchup as another low-scoring yet competitive contest to where defense will take center stage in a game where both teams are desperate for a win.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Jacksonville Jaguars -2

My reason for the pick :

It is becoming increasingly clear that the Cowboys are become more and more reminiscent of a one-dimensional team that only has the capability of running the football with Elliot and their 6th ranked rushing attack.  In other words, with the Jags only allowing 191 pass yards to their opponents on the year, look for them to lock down the 30th ranked passing game for Dallas early and often in this matchup to focus more on neutralizing Elliot.   With that being said, I will back the jaguars to get back on track versus a very inconsistent Dallas team that does not seem to be maximizing their talent in the best way(s) these days.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under (off)

My reason for the prediction :

While the over has been the play in recent matchup versus these teams, I will back the under in this contest as both offenses continue to struggle in ranking at or near the bottom as it relates to points scored per game.  also, the under has been the result in four of five games for Dallas while being the play in both road games for the jags this year and in three of five games for Jacksonville, overall.  It is for this reason that I will back the under in this matchup in that both defenses will be looking to pick it up in place of offense that simply cannot seem to get things together.

Betting trends for Jacksonville Jaguars:

    • Jaguars are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games on fieldturf.
    • Under is 5-1 in Jaguars last 6 games on fieldturf.
    • Over is 5-1 in Jaguars last 6 games after allowing less than 150 yards passing in their previous game.

Betting trends for Dallas Cowboys:

    • Under is 6-0 in Cowboys last 6 games following a straight up win.
    • Cowboys are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games in Week 6.
    • Over is 5-0 in Cowboys last 5 games in October.
