Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Philadelphia Eagles vs New York Giants
The Philadelphia Eagles will travel to MetLife Stadium in New York, New York, for an NFC East division showdown versus the New York Giants on Thursday night beginning at 8:20 pm EST. The Eagles have not only dominated this series in the past, but, are 8-3 ATS in the last eleven meetings in New York. While the Eagles have had success in facing the Giants in the past, they had no such luck in their last outing as they endured a terrible first half as they labored to the break down 17-3 to the Minnesota Vikings. Despite two Carson Wentz touchdown passes in the second half, the Eagles were not able to right themselves as they suffered the 23-21 home loss. The Giants also took the loss on the road at the hands of the Carolina Panthers by a 33-31 score as Graham Gano nailed a 63-yard field goal with :01 second left in the game after Eli manning found Saquon Barkley for a 15-yard touchdown pass that gave the visitors a 31-30 lead with 1:08 left to play. With the losses, both teams are losers of two straight games. The over is 6-0 in the last six games at MetLife Stadium while the over was the play in the last five meetings, overall.
Philadelphia Eagles's Latest Performance :
Philadelphia overcame three sacks for the game along with two fumbles to make a game out of it versus the Vikings in week five yet fell at home by a 23-21 score thanks to 301 passing yards and a touchdown pass by Kirk Cousins. And while Wentz had a much better second half in throwing two touchdowns passes, Dan Bailey nailed two important field goals for the road team en route to a much-needed victory on Sunday afternoon. Wentz ended the day with 311 yards two touchdown passes as Zack Ertz led the passing attack with ten receptions for 110 yards along with a touchdown. The Eagles entered the game averaging 111 yards on the ground per game, however, the Vikings allowed only 81 yards to Philadelphia as Jay Ajayi led with eight rushes for 29 yards. And while the Eagles 2nd ranked rush defense did its job in allowing just 77 yards to Minnesota on the ground, its passing attack struggled once again as Cousins repeatedly scored the secondary on his way to a solid afternoon. Manning and company may have even more success on Thursday in this area as safety Corey Graham continues to be questionable with a hamstring injury for the Eagles and uncertain to play on Thursday.
New York Giants's Latest Performance :
The Giants overcame a 17-3 early deficit to the Panthers late in the game with two Eli Manning touchdown passes along with a couple Aldrick Rojas field goals to take a one-point edge. Nonetheless, Cam Newton and company drove the ball just inside Giants territory when Graham Gano ended the game in kicking a 63 yarder to end the game and seal the victory for the home team. The Giants played a great game as they outgained the panthers in total yards (432-350) while Eli Manning threw for 326 yards, two touchdowns, along with two interceptions in the loss while Newton ended with 237 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions for Carolina. The Giants ability to gain outstanding return yardage (159) throughout the game helped their cause as well yet they collected 62 yards in penalties for the game compared to only 22 yards for the Panthers. Their 28th ranked rushing attack remained stagnant as the Giants were able to garner 50 yards on the ground with Saquon Barkley leading the charge with 15 rushes for 48 yards total. Odell Beckham Jr led the receiving corps with eight receptions for 131 yards and a score in defeat. The 9th ranked Giants pass defense held the Panthers in check as Devin Funchess had four receptions for 53 yards for the game. Barkley is questionable for Thursday’s game due to a back injury.
How Philadelphia Eagles & New York Giants Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Philadelphia is 1-4 ATS while the OU is 2-3
New York is 2-3 ATS while the OU is 2-3
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Both teams suffered heartbreaking losses as the Giants were victims of a last second field goal while the Eagles attempted to stage a comeback that ultimately fell short. Nonetheless, they both will carry loads of momentum into division play as the passing game for both teams seemed to play well particularly in the second half of their contests on Sunday. And while their running games continue to struggle, the Eagles should have an advantage with the Giants ranking 21st in the league in stopping the run while Barkley may miss the game due to injury, thus leaving the Giants along with their 28th ranked rushing attack in serious trouble versus a Philly team that allows 66 yards rushing per game to their opponent. On the other hand, the Giants have an advantage in overall pass defense as their pass secondary allows only 229 yards per game while the Eagles have struggled in giving up 274 yards per outing.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: NY Giants +2.5
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Giants in this matchup to keep this game close due to the way in which the passing game performed versus the Panthers last Sunday. If they continue their consistency, they should really have a great passing night versus an Eagles defense that continues to struggle in stopping the pass for opposing teams. The Eagles may indeed pull out a close win in this matchup, however, the Giants will certainly keep this game well within reach despite not have a decent rushing game in which to rely on.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 45
My reason for the prediction :
The over has been the play in recent meetings amongst these two squads while being the result in the Eagles only two road games of the season. Furthermore, the over has been the play in two of the last three games for the Giants, overall, thus signaling that this will certainly be a game to where points will be scored from both teams. As stated, the Giants have struggled stopping the run while the Eagles are awful at preventing big plays in the passing game. With that being said, both teams will take advantage of these vulnerabilities as the total will surpass the 45 points set for the matchup.
