Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Indianapolis Colts vs NY Jets
Two struggling teams will meet at MetLife Stadium in New York City on Sunday afternoon as the Indianapolis Colts will face the NY Jets in a 1 pm start time in week six NFL action. These teams last met on December 5, 2016 as the Colts walked away with the 41-10 road win as Andrew Luck threw four touchdown passes as they took a 34-3 lead after three quarters en route to the victory. The Colts, however, lost in their last outing as they only garnered three points in the first half while allowing 24 points to the New England Patriots on their way to a third straight loss as the Patriots picked up a 38-24 victory. The Jets whipped the Denver Broncos at home by a 34-16 score as the rushing game for the home team collected 323 yards for the game while Sam Darnold threw for three touchdown passes in the victory which halted a three-game losing streak. The Colts are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings amongst these teams. The over is 4-1-1 in the last six meetings at MetLife Stadium versus the Jets.
Indianapolis Colts's Latest Performance :
The Colts also fell behind early to the Patriots in their last outing on Thursday, October 7th, as Tom Brady threw three touchdown passes while running in anther as the home team went in by a 24-3 score at the half. And despite Andrew Luck getting them back into the contest with three second half touchdown passes, the Colts would lose their fourth game of the year while their offense continues to sputter regardless of Luck being on the field. Nonetheless, despite their 29th ranked rushing game only putting up 84 yards for the game, Luck threw for 365 yards, two touchdowns, along with three interceptions in the loss while Eric Ebron caught nine passes for 105 yards and two touchdown scores. Both the Patriots and Colts were 75% within the red zone for the game (3-4) while the 18th ranked Colts run defense bottled the Patriots in the run game in allowing just 97 yards for the contest while Brady finished with 341 yards, three touchdowns, along with two TD’s. The Colts have a boat load of injuries with defensive tackle Darnell Autry (hamstring), Margus Hunt (knee), Anthony Walker Jr (concussion) and Mattias Farley (hamstring) all are day to day and uncertain as if they will play in this matchup. Nate Hairston and Kenny Moore II are also day to day with ankle and concussion issues for the Colts and uncertain to play. Finally, TY Hilton (hamstring) along with tight ends Eric Ebron and Jack Doyle are uncertain for this game as well while Anthony Costanzo is battling hamstring injuries as well and is day to day.
NY Jets's Latest Performance :
After a Case Keenum touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton in the first period for the first points of the game, the Jets got two touchdown passes in the first half from Sam Darnold to give them a 21-10 lead at the half. Darnold threw another touchdown pass in the second half while Jason Meyers nailed two field goals to seal the victory for the Jets. Isiah Crowell was the star of the game in racking up 219 yards and a touchdown in the win while Darnold threw for 198 yards, three TD’s, along with a pick in the matchup while Robby Anderson led the receiving corps with 123 yards along with two touchdowns in the huge win for the Jets. New York also had 205 return yards for the game compared to only 30 for the Broncos. The Jet defense allowed only 92 yards rushing for the contest yet Keenum had 377 yards along with two touchdown passes and one interception for Denver. The defense may continue to struggle for the Jets as cornerbacks Buster Skrine and Tremaine Johnson are both day to day with head and quad injuries. The offense, on the other hand, has struggled in the past and maybe without Andre Roberts (elbow), Charone Peak (hamstring), and tight end Nate Serling (concussion) as they are also battling injuries and are uncertain for Sunday’s matchup.
How Indianapolis Colts & NY Jets Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Indianapolis is 2-3 ATS while the OU is 3-2
NY Jets is 2-3 ATS while the OU is 3-2
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Colts will certainly find it difficult in this matchup as they are not on a three-game losing streak to where their offense simply cannot catch a break. Combine this with the fact that they may indeed be missing some critical pieces on each side of the ball, this could very well be a great game for the Jets to build from their last performance at MetLife Stadium. The Colts are giving up 107 yards on the ground to their opponents while the Jets hammered the Broncos rush defense last Sunday in their win. In all, it will be interesting to see how their defense stacks up versus this offense on the ground. On the other hand, the strength of the Colts rely on their passing game to which they should have success with the Colts ranking 28th in the lead in giving up 283 yards to their opponents per outing.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: NY Jets -2.5
My reason for the pick :
I will gladly pick the Jets to cover the small spread in this matchup as they are playing much better on both sides of the ball as opposed to Indy giving up entirely too many yards (and scores) to their opponents this year. Also, with so many critical pieces for their team battling injuries, the Jets, as stated, can certainly have yet another outstanding performance on Sunday. In all, the Jets and Darnold will look to exploit the Colts 28th ranked defense all game long while pounding them on the ground with Crowell in covering the chalk in this game.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 45.5
My reason for the prediction :
The over has been the call in recent matchups versus these two teams and I expect this trend to continue since there will be many players that will probably be inactive for the Colts in this matchup. On the other hand, the Jets gained much momentum after beating the Broncos last week and with two remaining games at home, will attempt to gain even more as they will shore up their running and passing attacks on a Colts defense that is allowing 28 points per game. Also, Luck will certainly try the Jets pass secondary that is also allowing 266 yards per game.
Betting trends for Indianapolis Colts:
- Over is 4-0 in Colts last 4 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.
- Over is 4-0 in Colts last 4 games in Week 6.
- Under is 8-1 in Colts last 9 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game.
Betting trends for NY Jets:
- Jets are 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 games in October.
- Jets are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 vs. AFC.
- Under is 4-0 in Jets last 4 games after allowing more than 250 yards passing in their previous game.
