Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Pittsburgh Steelers vs Cincinnati Bengals
The up and down Pittsburgh Steelers will travel to Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio, to battle the red-hot Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm EST in an AFC North battle. The Steelers got back on the winning track last Sunday versus the reeling Atlanta Falcons as they picked up the 41-17 home win as the Steelers defense collected six sacks while also causing a fumble in the win. The Bengals picked up the 27-17 home win over the Miami Dolphins last Sunday as they rallied in the fourth quarter after being down 14-0 at the half to outscore the road team 27-6 in the second half while scoring 24 points in the final period. They met twice last year as the Steelers won both meetings with the last being on December 4, 2017 as they picked up the 23-20 road win, yet the Bengals covered the 4.5 points spread as home underdogs while the over was the play with the total being set at 42.5 points for the game. The Favorite in this matchup is 3-1-1 ATS in the last five meetings while the Steelers are 14-3-2 ATS in the last 19 meetings in Cincinnati.
Pittsburgh Steelers's Latest Performance :
The Steelers’ James Conner was a huge catalyst for Pittsburgh picking up their second win of the season as he rushed for 110 yards last Sunday while scoring twice on a rush defense for the Falcons that simply had no answers for the physicality that the home team exhibited within the trenches. Ben Roethlisberger had three touchdowns in throwing for 250 yards while going four for five inside the red zone for the day. As stated, the defense allowed the Falcons to go one for two inside the red zone, but, allowed only 62 yards on the ground to the visitors while Matt Ryan had 285 yards and a TD. Most importantly, Julio Jones was held to only five catches for 62 yards.
Cincinnati Bengals's Latest Performance :
Cincinnati could get nothing going in the first half of their last outing versus the Dolphins as Ryan Tannehill found Kenyan Drake for a 22-yard pass in the first while Jakeem Grant scored on a 71-yard punt return to put Miami up 14-0 at the half. They pushed their lead to 17-3 before Randy Bullock kicked one of his two field goals while Andy Dalton found Joe Mixon for an 18-yard pass to tighten the lead to 17-10. Michael Johnson tied the game as he picked off Tannehill and returned it 22 yards for the TD while Sam Hubbard sealed the victory with a 19-yard fumble recovery. While the Bengals did not have an overly impressive game, they would put up 103 yards on the ground with Mixon leading the way with 93 yards on 22 carries while Dalton finished with 248 yards, a TD, along with an interception in the win. AJ Green led the receiving corps with 112 yards on six catches for an offense that came well below their yard average per game by over 50 yards. Their defense, however, gave up 128 yards for the game, only allowed 169 yards passing as Tannehill threw a touchdown pass along with two interceptions. The Bengals also recovered a fumble in the matchup while collecting three sacks for the game while holding Miami to no possessions inside the red zone. Tight end Tyler Kroft is questionable with a Knee injury for this game.
How Pittsburgh Steelers & Cincinnati Bengals Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Pittsburgh is 2-3 ATS while the OU is 4-1
Cincinnati is 4-1 ATS while the OU is 4-1
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
After a win for both teams, they now look to pick up with a win in the AFC North division. The Steelers have dominated this matchup in the past, however, the Bengals look to get some payback at home in their first meeting of the season versus Pittsburgh. I happen to think that they have a great shot at doing so in that the Bengals offense, despite having to rally in their last outing, has really been red hot lately as there are averaging 32 points in their last two games (30.5 points in their last two home games). The Steelers are averaging 27 points per game and will look to dominate within the trenches once again over the 23rd ranked rush defense in the Bengals while the Steelers passing offense which averages 321 yards per outing will look to take advantage of a Cincy pass secondary that allows 277 yards per game.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Cincinnati Bengals -2.5
My reason for the pick :
Again, while the Steelers have dominated this series in the past, I will back the Bengals in this matchup as they have been the better team this year as the Steelers have struggled both on offense and defense thus far in the season. I expect the Bengals to really give the Steelers a workout in their pass secondary that is allowing nearly 300 yards per game. The 4th ranked passing attack for the Steelers should also have their fair share of opportunities versus the Bengals pass secondary as they have also been shaky in allowing too many big plays already in 2018. Nonetheless, look for the Bengals to cover the small spread at home as the Steelers have a tendency to struggle at times on the offensive end despite their numerous playmakers.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 53
My reason for the prediction :
I happen to believe that this will be an up and down affair to where both teams will have more than enough opportunities to score. Besides, the over has been the play in four of the last five games for both the Steelers and the Bengals and I certainly see this trend continuing as both teams are inconsistent in their pass defense. In all, I will back the over in this matchup as this contest will pit together two teams that will be pulling out all the stops to get a victory to gain the inside tract in conference positioning early on.
