Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Minnesota Vikings vs NY Jets
The Minnesota Vikings will travel to MetLife Stadium in New York City on Sunday afternoon for a 1 pm EST battle versus the New York Mets in week seven NFL action. The last time these two teams met was on December 7, 2014 as the Vikings picked up the 30-24 home win in overtime as the Jets tied the game via a Nick Folk 44-yard field goal to end regulation. In the overtime period, then-starter Teddy Bridgewater threw an 87-yard pass to Jarius Wright to seal the victory for the Vikings. The Vikings were 27-17 home winners of the Arizona Cardinals win in week six as Latavius Murray racked up 155 yards along with a touchdown for an offense that put up close to 200 yards on the ground. The Jets picked apart the Indianapolis Colts at home by a 42-34 score as the defense stepped up with four turnovers while Sam Darnold threw for two touchdown passes in the win.
Minnesota Vikings's Latest Performance :
While the Vikings have a top ten passing attack in Cousins and company, they relied heavily on Latavius Murray in their last outing versus the Cardinals to get them the win as he and the rushing attack racked up 195 yards for the game while Murray led the charge with 155 yards and a score. Kirk Cousins (233 yards, a TD, INT) along with Adam Thielen (123 yds, 11 rec, TD) also chipped in heavily for an offense that is only putting up 24 points per game despite averaging close to 400 yards of offense per outing. The defense for the Vikings feasted on Rosen and the Cardinals as Josh Rosen was sacked four times while committing two turnovers for the game. Cousins and company and their 7th ranked passing offense will certainly look to tee off against a Jets defensive secondary that allows 272 yards in the air to their opponents per outing.
NY Jets 's Latest Performance :
While Andrew Luck threw four touchdown passes in week six versus the Jets, he also threw three interceptions including a pick six in the first to put the Jets on the board in their loss last Sunday. Sam Darnold was solid yet again for the Jets offense as he threw for 280 yards along with two scores and an interception while Jermaine Kearse (94 yards, 9 catches) and Bilal Powell (59 yards, 16 rushes) also chipped in to assist Darnold in the win. The Jets are now winners of three straight games while they will be looking to tame the Vikings passing attack that is averaging over 300 yards per game. However, they may have to accomplish this without cornerback Buster Skrine (head) and safety Marcus Maye (hand) who are both day to day and uncertain if they will suit up for their matchup versus the Vikings.
How Minnesota Vikings & NY Jets Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Minnesota is 3-2-1 ATS while the OU is 3-3
NY Jets are 3-3 ATS while the OU is 4-2
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Both the Vikings and Jets have been beneficiaries of momentum for the past two weeks as they have won two straight games. During this time, the Jets have averaged 38 points per game while the Vikings have put up 25 points per win during this time. On the other hand, the defense for the Jets have allowed 25 points per game to their opponents while the Vikings gave up only 18 points. With that being said, this will certainly be a back and forth affair to where the defenses will take center stage as they will pressure both quarterbacks in hopes of disrupting their offensive timing. Look for this to be a low-scoring and competitive matchup versus teams that carry tons of momentum at this point while looking to extend their stellar play.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Minnesota Vikings +3
My reason for the pick :
While Darnold has been great for the Jets for yet another week, as stated, look for the Vikings to bring the pressure in this contest as they did versus Rosen last weekend. In other words, to neutralize the Jets passing attack, they will disrupt Darnold in the pocket to allow him to get rid of the ball early, or, to make mistakes in throwing interceptions early and often. With that being the case, also look for the Vikings offense to try the Jets pass defensive with Cousins and Thielen leading the charge. In all, the Jets may indeed come out with a slim victory, however, the Vikings should certainly keep this game close to the end.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 47
My reason for the prediction :
The Jets will be looking to run the ball in this game, yet will find difficulties in doing so with a top ten ranked rush defense in the Vikings. On the other hand, the Vikings certainly have an edge as their passing game will be looking to exploit a Jets secondary that is ranked 23rd in the league in allowing 272 yards passing to their opponents per outing. With that being said, expect the Vikings to have the inside tract on covering in this matchup, but, also look for them to control the trenches along with the Jets offense long enough to cover the spread in this matchup as the total will not surpass 47 points.
