Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Houston Texans vs Jacksonville Jaguars

The Houston Texans will travel to TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida, to battle the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoon for a matchup beginning at 1 PM EST.  The Jaguars are coming off an awful road trip as they were blown out not only by the Kansas City Chiefs, but, as of Sunday afternoon, were shellacked by the Dallas Cowboys by a 40-7 score in week six as the offense put up a total of 204 total yards for the game while allowing the Cowboys to collect 378 yards including 206 yards on the ground.  The Texans, on the other hand, picked up the 20-14 home win over the lowly Buffalo Bills as the defense took advantage of a pick six off Nate Peterman late in the final period to seal the win.  The last time these teams met was on December 17, 2017 as the Jaguars got the 45-7 blowout home win as Blake Bortles threw for three touchdown passes while having 326 yards total for the game.

Houston Texans's Latest Performance :

The Texans look to win their fourth straight game as they have allowed 21 points in their last three games while averaging 25 points during this time.  They were locked into yet another close contest versus the Bills last weekend as they needed a Jonathan Joseph pick six to break a 13-13 tie in the final quarter in which to pull out a win.  The offense for the Texans collected only 15 first downs in the contest while only going one for five inside the red zone.  Furthermore, the Texans allowed seven sacks to the Bills while their 15th ranked rushing attack only obtained 74 yards on the ground.  DeShawn Watson had only 177 yards passing, a TD, along with two interceptions in the win.  Interestingly enough, the Texans need to become more efficient in their offense as they are ranked in the top 15 in the league in total yards allowed (389), passing yards (298), along with rushing yards (109), however, are 21st in scoring with only 23 points per game.  The Jags defense enter the game ranked 9th in points allowed with 21 per game, however, they may catch them at the right time as they are allowing 35 points on average in their last two games during their two-game skid.

Jacksonville Jaguars's Latest Performance :

The Jacksonville offense came well below their average in both the pass and rushing attacks versus the Cowboys as they were only able to rush for 65 yards for the game as TJ Yeldon had 41 yards on eight carries while the passing attack was led by Blake Bortles who was less than average (at best) with only 149 yards, a TD, and an INT.  The offense had only ten first downs for the game while also allowing three sacks as they never reached the red zone in the contest.  On the other band, the stifling defense of the Jags are beginning to look pedestrian as they allowed the Cowboys to convert four of five times within the red zone while also enabling them to control time of possession for 38:50 minutes.  They did, however, collect three sacks for the game, yet Ezekiel Elliot rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown in the win.  The Jaguars, which remain in the top ten in yards allowed (306), passing yards allowed (188), along with points allowed (21), have allowed 70 points in their last two games and will certainly look to get back on track versus a Texans team that 23 points per game, good for 21st in the league.  Unfortunately, defensive lineman Calais Campbell and Malik Jackson are day to day with hamstring and rib injuries as their status for the game is uncertain.

How Houston Texans & Jacksonville Jaguars Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Houston is 1-5 ATS while the OU is 2-4

Jacksonville is 3-3 ATS while the OU is 3-3

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Both these teams rely heavily on their defense in which to keep them in game as their offense has a tendency to sleep walk at various times.  With that being the case, this game will be a defensive minded affair as both offenses will attempt to gain the upper hand within the trenches while also utilizing their running game.  The matchup itself will be interesting in that both teams have stout defensive fronts, nonetheless, I will give the edge to the Texans in this area if indeed Campbell and Jackson are a no go.  In all, both teams will certainly bring the focus and intensity in which to either get a win to halt their current skid, or, to continue their current winning streak.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Houston Texans +4.5

My reason for the pick :

While the Jags are much better at home than they are on the road, the fact remains that they are struggling on offense at this point as their running game has not been nearly as dominant as it was in their first few games of the season.  With that being said, Bortles has had to step up and attempt to keep the Jags in the game which is not his strong point.  With that being the case, look for the Texans to bring the pressure in this contest as their prior road trip exposed serious vulnerabilities within their offense.  In all, expect for the Texans to keep this game tight throughout while also having a chance to win outright in the end.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 42.5

My reason for the prediction :

The under is certainly the strongest play in this matchup as both defenses are solid and will certainly be looking to step up with their offenses struggling lately.  Of course, both teams will bring the pressure in which to get both offenses off the field on third down while they will also look to collect turnovers that would also make it much easier for the offense to put some scores on the board.  As the Texans have been opportunistic in their scoring defense as apparent from their last win, the Jags may need to step up their game as well if Bortles and the offense continues to struggle.
