Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
New England Patriots vs Chicago Bears
The New England Patriots will travel to Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois, to take on the Bears in week seven action beginning on Sunday at 1 pm EST. The Patriots are coming off a huge home win over the Kansas City Chiefs by a 43-40 score as they would hold off a second half rally by the road team thanks to Sony Michel and the rushing game which racked up 173 yards in the game en route to the win. The Bears suffered a 31-28 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins on the road as Brock Osweiler connected with Albert Wilson for a 75-yard touchdown pass with only 3:01 left in regulation to force overtime while Jason Sanders nailed a 47-yard field goal to seal the victory for the Dolphins as the Bears halted a three game winning streak. The last time these teams met was on October 26, 2014 when the Patriots picked up the 51-23 blowout win at Gillette Stadium as Tom Brady torched the defense for the Bears in throwing for 354 yards along with five touchdown passes for the Patriots.
New England Patriots's Latest Performance :
The Patriots are beginning to play much better as they showed in their last home matchup versus the offensive minded Chiefs at Gillette Stadium as the rushing attack took center stage in collecting 173 yards for the game with Sony Michel having 24 rushes or 106 yards and a score in the contest. Tom Brady was in form as he threw for only a touchdown pass yet passed for 340 total yards with Rob Gronkowski (3 rec, 97 yds), Chris Hogan (4 rec, 78 yds), along with Julian Edelman (4 rec, 54 yds, TD) leading the receiving corps. The Pats converted four of six red zone opportunities while racking up 31 first downs in addition to holding the ball for over 36 minutes, yet Brady was sacked twice by the Chiefs defense. The Patriots defense only allowed 94 yards to the Chiefs yet allowed 190 return yards while Pat Mahomes threw for 352 yards for the game along with four TD’s and two interceptions. The Chiefs went back and forth with the Patriots; however, Stephen Gostkowski sealed the victory for the home team as time expired with a 28-yard field goal.
Chicago Bears's Latest Performance :
The Bears scored 21 points in the third quarter to take a 21-13 lead on the Dolphins in their last outing, yet Brock Osweiler connected with Wilson twice in the final period while Sanders ended the game in OT with a field goal as the Dolphins sent the Bears packing with a loss in week six. Osweiler threw for 380 yards, 3 TD’s, along with two interceptions in the win while Mitch Trubisky also went over the 300-yard mark (318) as he threw three TD’s along with an interception as Taylor Gabriel ended with 110 yards on five catches in defeat. The Bears also wasted a solid effort from their rushing attack as they racked up 164 yards for the game with Jordan Howard leading the way with 69 yards on 14 carries. And while the Bears went two for four inside the red zone, they were doomed by two fumbles along with two sacks in the contest. Their defense recovered a fumble in the contest as well yet allowed 161 yards on the ground to the Dolphins as Frank Gore finished with 101 yards on 15 carries. Cornerback Prince Amukumara is questionable in this contest with a hamstring injury for the Bears for this matchup.
How New England Patriots & Chicago Bears Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
New England is 3-3 ATs while the OU is 3-3
Chicago is 3-2 ATS while the OU is 3-2
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Expect the Bears to come into their matchup looking to establish themselves on the ground as the Patriots have had their issues in stopping the run; However, the Patriots passing game has improved on a weekly basis as they also look to take advantage of a Bears secondary that is allowing 261 yards in the air to their opponents on a weekly basis. And while the Bears have stepped it up on the offensive end in recent weeks, New England has also averaged 40 points per outing in their last three games, overall. Finally, with the Chicago defense averaging a tad less than 20 points per game, it will be interesting to see how Brady and company will respond.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: New England Patriots -3.5
My reason for the pick :
I will ride with the Patriots in this matchup as they are beginning to play much better in the passing game while the rushing attack has improved as well. And while they may indeed have some troubles early on in collecting yardage on a Bears defense that has been stingy in protecting the run, Brady and company will have a solid day versus the pass defense for Chicago in the end, thus allowing them to cover the spread in this contest on Sunday. In all, the home team will indeed put up a good fight, however, New England will be looking to gain some heavy momentum and confidence as they will attempt to win their third straight before taking on division opponent Buffalo next week.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 49.5
My reason for the prediction :
I will also back the over in this contest as it was the case the last time these two teams met. Combine this with the fact that the Patriots along with the Bears have really played well on the offensive side of the ball lately, look for the total of 49.5 points to be surpassed during this game. Of course, both defenses have played better lately with the average win for the Patriots being 12 points while the Bears last three wins have been also by an average of 12 points; Nonetheless, New England will have the edge in this matchup as Brady and company will come through once again versus a defense that is weak in its back-end.
