Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
New Orleans Saints vs Baltimore Ravens
The offensive minded New Orleans Saints will travel to M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland, on Sunday afternoon to battle the Ravens in week seven NFL action beginning at 4:05 pm EST. The Saints are coming off a bye week while the Ravens finished off the Tennessee Titans on the road by a 21-0 score last Sunday as the defense locked down the Titans as they allowed only 106 yards total for the game. The last time the two teams squared off was on November 24, 2014 as the Ravens pulled off a 34-27 road win as Justin Forsett was the main catalyst of getting the win as he racked up 182 yards on the ground along with two touchdown passes while Joe Flacco chipped in 243 yards along with a touchdown pass in the win.
New Orleans Saints's Latest Performance :
New Orleans is coming off a bye week, as stated, yet picked up a 43-19 home win in their last outing versus the Washington Redskins on October 8th as Drew Brees lit up the defensive secondary for Washington in passing for 363 yards along with three TD’s in the game with Tre’Quan Smith leading the receiving corps with 111 yards along with two touchdown catches. Mark Ingram II led the rushing attack with 53 yards along with two scores for a unit that garnered 98 yards on the day while New Orleans was helped greatly by collecting 120 return yards for the game. The Redskins, on the other hand, was held to 39 yards rushing for the game while Alex Smith had an interception while throwing for 275 yards total. They will now turn their attention to a very solid, top notch defense in the Ravens that are ranked in the top three in each major defensive category including total yards (270), passing yards (188), rushing yards (83), along with points allowed (13).
Baltimore Ravens's Latest Performance :
As stated, the defense for the Ravens capitalized off poor offensive line play for the Titans in obtaining eleven sacks for the game while Marcus Mariota, under severe duress, threw for only 117 yards on ten for 15 passes in the loss. The Titans, not surprisingly, did not reach the red zone in the game while only picking up seven first downs. The Ravens were led by Joe Flacco who threw for 238 yards, a TD, along with an INT while the rushing attack was the tip of the spear in collecting 123 yards with Alex Collins collecting 54 yards along with two rushing touchdowns on the day. Michael Crabtree also obtained 93 yards on the day with a touchdown catch for the Ravens 9th ranked passing attack. The only injury to report for Baltimore is that their left tackle, Alex Lewis, is day to day with a neck injury and is uncertain to play in this all-important matchup.
How New Orleans Saints & Baltimore Ravens Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
New Orleans is 3-2 ATS while the OU is 3-2
Baltimore is 4-2 ATS while the OU is 4-2
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
As stated, this game will certainly be a contrast in styles as the high scoring New Orleans Saints offense will square off versus the Ravens top ranked defense. The Saints come into the matchup also ranked in the top three in the league in points scored per game (36), passing yards (321), along with total yards per game (424). They are ranked 18th in rushing with 103 yards per outing, however, Mark Ingram is back in the lineup and will certainly provide a lift as well as a change from Alvin Kamara and his running style. In all, this will be an entertaining contest as both teams will be looking to establish themselves at the line of scrimmage in which to dictate the overall flow of this contest. The Ravens 9th ranked rushing attack should be solid in this matchup with the Saints ranking 30th in the league in pass defense in allowing close to 300 yards per game.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Baltimore Ravens -2.5
My reason for the pick :
I will give the Raves the nod in this game not only because they are at home to where they are undefeated thus far, but, they will have the luxury of utilizing their stellar pass offense versus a Saints pass defense that has struggled stopping the pass all year long. And while I see this as a game to where the Saints will struggle (for the most part), they will indeed put some points on the board. Unfortunately, they will not cover in this matchup and will find it very difficult throughout to control the trenches versus a solid and strong defensive front for Baltimore.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 49.5
My reason for the prediction :
I will back the under also in this matchup as the under has been the play in the last four games for the Ravens. Combine this with the fact that the home team knows that they must be outstanding to neutralize this offense for the Saints, expect them to bring the focus and pressure often to disrupt the timing for Brees and his playmakers. Again, the Saints will score some points in this game, however, the Ravens will put some points on the board as well while allowing their defense to hold the Saints to the bare minimum in total yards along with total points scored.
