Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Indianapolis Colts vs Oakland Raiders

The Indianapolis Colts will travel to play the Oakland Raiders at Oakland Alameda Coliseum in Oakland, California, on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 pm EST.  The Colts are coming off a 37-5 blowout home win versus the reeling Buffalo Bills in their last time out as they racked up 220 yards on the ground for the day while Marlon Mack had 126 yards and a TD in the victory.  The Raiders were 27-3 home losers to the Seattle Seahawks as Russell Wilson threw for three touchdown passes while the Raiders committed two fumbles along with only having 185 total yards in the loss.   The last time these teams met was on December 24, 2016 as the Raiders picked up the 33-25 home win as they covered as 3.5-point home favorites.  The colts are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings with Oakland.

Indianapolis Colts's Latest Performance :

The Colts have had a tough road as well in 2018 yet they halted a four-game skid in their last outing versus the lowly Buffalo Bills their last time out as Mack racked up 126 yards and a score, yet the running back is dealing with ankle problems and is probable for this game.  Nonetheless, Andrew Luck threw for four touchdown passes in the win with Carlos Rodgers leading the receiving corps with 40 yards on four receptions in the win.  The defense for the Colts capitalized on five turnovers by the Bills while also collecting two sacks in the game.  They did, however, allow 135 yards on the ground as Chris Ivory rushed for 81 yards on 16 carries.  In all, the Colts come into this game averaging 267 yards per game in their passing attack and will square off versus an Oakland team that is ranked 21st in the league in allowing 267 yards in the pass defenses.

Oakland Raiders's Latest Performance :

The Raiders will be well rested prior to their meeting with the Colts yet their bye could not have come at a better time with the team losing their last two games to where their offense only put up a combined 13 points lead into the bye week.  Their defense, on the other hand, allowed 26 points to their opponents to during this time while they were 0-2 ATS.  In their last time out, they fell at home to the Seattle Seahawks as David Carr threw for only 142 yards while the rushing attack racked up 79 yards total for the game as Marshawn lynch ended with 45 yards on 13 carries.  Their defense allowed 222 yards along with three TD’s and an interception in the loss while giving up 155 yards on the ground with Chris Carson having 59 yards on 14 carries.  Oakland’s passing attack has been their bread and butter this year in ranking 10th in the league, however, Carr and his playmakers have been very inconsistent lately and not have been able to get on the same page.  They may find success versus the Colts as they rank 19th in the league in allowing 264 yards per outing in the air.

How Indianapolis Colts & Oakland Raiders Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Indianapolis is 3-4 ATS while the OU is 4-3

Oakland is 2-4 ATS while the OU is 2-4

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The Raiders are coming off a bye, as stated, and will certainly need to pick up a win in this contest.  The problem is that the Colts are coming into this matchup after getting a boost of momentum after beating up on the Bills at home last weekend.  The Raiders will attempt to get their passing game revved up versus a Colt’s secondary that has not been solid versus the pass. However, the Raiders will also have to deal with Luck and company and his 13th ranked passing game that is also putting up solid numbers.  Neither team possesses much of a rushing attack, however, Oakland is ranked near the bottom in defending the rush at 27th in the league.  Unfortunately, Lynch as been put on injured reserve with no timetable for his return.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Oakland Raiders +3

My reason for the pick :

I will back the home team along with the points in this game as both have not played well all season and, by most accounts, have underachieved.  With that being said, the Colts have been terrible on the road at 1-3 this season while being 0-2 ATS in their last two road contests.  On the other hand, the Raiders have not been solid on their home field either while they are 1-2 ATS in 2018.  Nonetheless, I have more confidence that the Raiders will somehow keep this game tight and interesting throughout while covering the small spread on Sunday.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Over 50.5

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the over in this contest in that the Colts have averaged 28 points per game in their last four games while the Raiders have certainly allowed their opponents more than enough opportunities to score as well.  On the other hand, the Colts, aside from their last matchup, has also been generous on the defensive end in allowing almost 30 points in their last four games.  With that being the case, the under has been the play in two of the last three home games for Oakland and I expect this to continue with two Jekyll and Hyde offenses looking to remain competitive.

Betting trends for Indianapolis Colts:

  • Over is 4-0 in Colts last 4 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.

  • Over is 6-1 in Colts last 7 games after accumulating more than 150 yards rushing in their previous game.

  • Colts are 11-2 ATS in their last 13 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.

Betting trends for Oakland Raiders:

  • Raiders are 0-5-2 ATS in their last 7 games after accumulating less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game.

  • Under is 5-0 in Raiders last 5 games after accumulating less than 150 yards passing in their previous game.

  • Under is 5-0 in Raiders last 5 games after scoring less than 15 points in their previous game.
