Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
New York Jets vs Chicago Bears
The New York Jets will travel to Solider Field in Chicago, Illinois, to battle the Bears on Sunday at 1 pm EST. The Jets are coming off a 37-17 home loss to the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday as the Vikings outscored the home team 27-10 in the second half while capitalizing off four turnovers by Sam Darnold to get the victory. The Bears also suffered a loss at home to the New England Patriots by a 38-31 score as a blocked punt along with a Tom Brady touchdown pass was the difference in the game in that it broke a 24-24 tie to send the Bears to their second straight loss. In their last meeting, the Bears were 27-19 road winners on September 22, 2014 as the road team covered as 1.5 road favorites. The Jets are 04-1 ATS in their last five meetings amongst these squads.
New York Jets's Latest Performance :
The Jets, after winning two straight, fell hard at home versus the Minnesota Vikings in their last outing as two Latavius Murray rushing touchdowns as well as a touchdown pass by Kirk Cousins proved to be the difference as the Vikings picked up the victory. Its defense also collected four turnovers along with three sacks on Sam Darnold for the game. Darnold would throw a touchdown pass to Chris Herndon in the game while also having 206 yards passing for the day while the rushing attack only mustered 71 yards for the game with Isiah Crowell having 29 yards on eleven carries. Trenton Cannon led the receiving corps with 69 yards on four catches for a Jets offense that could not move the ball throughout the game. Their defense allowed 241 yards along with two touchdowns to Cousins in the loss while the Minnesota rushing attack was led by Murray with two touchdowns along with 69 yards total. Adam Thielin caught nine passes for 110 yards along with a touchdown catch for the Vikings who would also have 192 return yards for the game.
Chicago Bears's Latest Performance :
After going 3-1 going into their bye week, the Bears have since went 0-2 SU while going winless against the spread during this time. Surprisingly, their offense has averaged a tad under 30 points during their losing skid yet their defense is allowing 34 points to their opponents during this time. New England put up 38 points versus the Bears at Solider Field in their last loss as the Patriots, after being down 17-7, mounted a comeback by outscoring the home team 28-14 as they handed the bears the loss. Mitch Trubisky threw for 330 yards along with two TD’s and two interceptions in the loss while also leading the rushing attack with 81 yards and a TD. Trey Burton had 126 yards and a score on nine catches for the game as the Bears also had 112 return yards for the game. The Patriots also had 182 return yards while Tom Brady ended the game with 277 yards, three TD’s along with an interception in the win. The bears have fallen to last in the NFC North and tied with the Detroit Lions at 3-3 overall.
How New York Jets & Chicago Bears Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
New York is 3-4 ATS while the OU is 5-2
Chicago is 3-3 ATS while the OU is 4-2
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Both teams could certainly use a win on Sunday as they were not on their A game last weekend. New York will look to get back to basics with their 12th ranked rushing attack that puts up 122 yards rushing per game while attempting to exploit the Bears 4th ranked rushing attack that may be without their star linebacker Khalil Mack, who is probable with an ankle injury. Also, the Jets are dealing with foot injuries from Isiah Crowell, however, he is probable for Sunday’s matchup. In addition, the Bears will also look to crank up their running game against a Jets defenses that has been stout in defending the run this year in allowing only 105 yards per game for the season.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: New York Jets +7.5
My reason for the pick :
With both teams coming off horrible losses along with Mack being questionable for Chicago’s defense, expect the Jets to give the Bears a full dose of their running game in this contest simply to take some pressure off Darnold after an awful start versus the Vikings. The Bears are giving up 236 yards in the air, so Darnold and company may indeed have some success in that area as well. Nonetheless, the QB must be able to cut down on turnovers in this matchup. For the Jets, they must be able to control the trenches versus a Chicago rushing attack that is ranked 6th in the league to which I feel that they will most certainly accomplish.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 45
My reason for the prediction :
With both teams not playing consistent football on either side at this point, I will look for the over to be the play in this contest. Both gave up 30 or more points the week prior and with a critical pierce of Chicago’s defense possibly being a no go in Mack, expect the Jets to certainly score some big runs up the middle in which to give them momentum and confidence. In all, look for both teams to put some scores on the board yet the final will remain low scoring and well within range for either team to pick up the win in the end.
