Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Philadelphia Eagles vs Jacksonville Jaguars

The Philadelphia Eagles and the Jacksonville Jaguars will both travel to Wembley Stadium in London, England for a week eight matchup beginning at 9:30 pm EST.  The Eagles are coming off a 21-17 home loss versus the Carolina Panthers as they allowed 21 points in the fourth quarter while having lost three of their last four games, altogether.  The Jaguars are also reeling at this point as they have lost three straight with their last lost being at the hands of the Houston Texans by a 20-7 score as they could not overcome three huge turnovers along with four sacks.  In their last meeting on September 7, 2014, the Eagles picked up the 34-17 home win while covering as ten-point home favorites.

Philadelphia Eagles's Latest Performance :

The Eagles were certainly looking forward to a win after the third quarter in their last outing versus Carolina.  Nonetheless, Cam Newton along with Curtis Samuel each would ensure that this was not to be as the Panthers scored 21 in the final quarter to sneak out of Lincoln Financial Field with a victory to move to 4-2 on the year.  The Eagles went up by as many as 17-6 as Carson Wentz passed for 310 yards along with two TD’s while the rushing game put up only 58 yards for the game.  Zack Ertz led the receiving corps with 138 yards while Alshon Jeffery had a touchdown catch along with 88 yards receiving for Philly in the loss.  Cam Newton had two touchdown passes along with 269 yards total in the win while rushing for 49 yards total.  The Eagles fell to second place within the NFC east with the loss while losing three of their last four games overall.   They have gone 1-5 ATS in their last six game while their offense has struggled during this time in averaging 23 points per game.

Jacksonville Jaguars's Latest Performance :

After beginning the season at 3-1, the Jaguars have lost their last three outings as their offense, which has struggled all year, is now putting up 9 points per game while the defense is allowing 30 points during this time.  In their last outing, the Jags could only muster a touchdown by TJ Yeldon late in the third quarter to tighten the Texans lead to 20-7.  Nonetheless, this would end the scoring for both teams in the contest as the Jags moved to 4-4 on the season while falling to third place within the AFC South.  Cody Kessler (156 yards, TD, INT) along with Blake Bortles (61 yards, 6 of 12) both receiving time under center while the rushing game only picked up 70 yards for the game with Bortles leading the way with 30 yards.  Donte Moncrief led the receiving corps with seven catches for 76 yards for the contest.  The Jags defense allowed 141 yards on the ground to the Texans as Lamar Miller finished with 100 yards and a TD while Desean Watson had only 139 yards along with a TD in the victory.  The Jaguars are 0-3 ATS in their last three and will certainly run into a team in the Eagles this weekend that will be focused more than ever after losing a heartbreaker at home versus the panthers last weekend.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will certainly be a game that will be decided in the trenches in that you have an Eagles team that is stout on defense in allowing just 19.7 points per game while the Jaguars are looking to get back on track as their offense continues to struggle in averaging just 16.6 points per game.  On the other hand, the Jags defense is ranked in the top ten in each defensive category aside from rush defense to where they are allowing 122 yards per game, good for 29th in the league.  Expect both teams to come out focused at Wembley Stadium in which to end a rough patch of play while gaining some momentum and confidence moving forward.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Jacksonville Jaguars +3

My reason for the pick :

With both teams having good defenses, the game will remain tight throughout.  Also, with the way that both offenses have struggled to move the ball, expect this to continue in this matchup.  It is for this reason that I will back the Jags and the points as I happen to believe that the Eagles will pull out a slim victory, however, the score will certainly be close in the end.  Again, the defenses will take center stage in this matchup which will allow the Jags to remain in the game in which to cover.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 42

My reason for the prediction :

The under has been the play in two of the last three games for the Eagles while being the result in two of the last three games overall for the Jaguars as well.  Combine this with the fact that neither offense has been effective at moving the ball in their last couple times out, as stated, this will certainly be a classic under game as the defenses will pad their stats throughout.  Of course, the Eagles come in as the slightly better offense with Wentz at QB, however, their running game stinks and will not take advantage of a less than stellar run defense for the Jags.  With that being said, take the under as the strong play in this matchup.

Betting trends for Philadelphia Eagles:

  • Over is 4-0 in Eagles last 4 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game.

  • Eagles are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games on grass.

  • Eagles are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall.

Betting trends for Jacksonville Jaguars:

  • Over is 4-0 in Jaguars last 4 vs. a team with a losing record.

  • Jaguars are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in October.

  • Jaguars are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up loss
