Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Washington Redskins vs New York Giants

The Washington Redskins will travel to MetLife Stadium in New York City for an NFC east matchup versus the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm EST.  In their last meeting, the Giants picked up the 18-10 home win on December 31, 2017 as they covered as 4.5 underdogs for the contest.  The Redskins are coming off a 20-17 home win over the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday as Alex Smith threw for 178 yards and a score as the Redskins won their second straight game.  The Giants were 23-20 road losers on Monday night to the Atlanta Falcons as both Matt Ryan and Eli Manning lit it up in the passing game, however, the Giants simply were not efficient on the offensive end as they lost their fourth straight.  The under is 12-3 in the last 15 meetings in New York City while the underdogs are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings, overall.

Washington Redskins's Latest Performance :

The Washington Redskins are on a high at this point in the season as they are winners of their last two games with their last game being a 20-17 home win as Alex Smith passed for 178 yards and a TD in the game.  The rushing game racked up 130 yards for the game with Adrian Peterson having 99 yards on 24 carries while Kapri Bibbs led the passing game with 43 yards and a score.  The defense for Washington was stellar in holding the punishing rushing attack for Dallas to only 73 yards for the game with Ezekiel Elliot having only 33 yards on 15 carries.  Dak Prescott attempted to pick up the slack for his lack of production with 278 yards and a TD pass in the game, yet to no avail.  The defense also collected four sacks on Prescott while recovering two fumbles in the contest.  Washington remains in first place within the NFC East as their offense is only averaging 21 points per game, however, its defense is allowing 20 points per game for the season while being ranked in the top ten in every major defensive category in the league.

New York Giants 's Latest Performance :

The Giants had high hopes coming into the 2018 season, however, after losing four straight to where the offense has simply not clicked at all in averaging 20 points during their current skid, it would seem as if the Giants have written off the season already.  They are, of course, at the bottom of the NFC East at 1-6 while the defense has allowed 30 or more points in three of their last four games.  In their last outing versus the Falcons, the Giants were down 20-6 to the Falcons midway through the fourth quarter before the G-Men scored two touchdowns; However, a field goal by Giorgio Tavecchio gave the home team the victory while New York was left to ponder what could have been.  Eli Manning ended with 399 yards along with a touchdown pass while Matt Ryan ended the game with a TD as well with 379 yards in the air.  Saquon Barkley only rushed for 43 yards on 14 carries with a score while Sterling Shepard and Odell Beckham Jr combined for 13 catches for 210 yards along with a TD.  The Giants are 0-3 at home this year as they have not covered in either outing.  Their offense is only averaging 15 points at MetLife this year while the defense has allowed 29 points.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This NFC matchup may be a bit one-sided on paper as the Redskins are fresh off wins over the Panthers and Cowboys and would love to exploit a Giants team that has not played cohesively all season.  In fact, the Redskins defense must be licking their chops to not only get a chance at stuffing the running game for New York, but, their 13th ranked pass defense must be looking towards the challenge of going up against the 12th ranked passing attack for the Giants.  Both teams have struggled on offense, yet, it will be interesting to see which defense will step up the most as I expect it to be a contest to where both units will take center stage.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Washington Redskins -1

My reason for the pick :

The Giants have not only been terrible this season, but, have been even worse at home amongst their adoring yet demanding fan base.  With that being said, the Redskins come into this game with a consistent offense that is putting points on the board, yet not overwhelming their opponents.  In addition, they possess a defense that can really lock down opponents with their experience and speed in defending the run as well as the pass.  In all, look for the Redskins to show and prove in what will be an important game for both teams.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 42.5

My reason for the prediction :

The under has been the play in four of six games for the Redskins this year, primarily due to their defensive efforts.  Nonetheless, the under has also been the result in two of the last three home games for the Giants.  With that being the case, look for the struggling Giants offense to struggle even more while the Redskins will score just enough to get the win in this contest.  In all, this will be a low scoring affair that will see the road team come out victorious, thus allowing the grumbling in the Big Apple to continue concerning the ills of their dearly beloved Giants.

Betting trends for Washington Redskins:

  • Under is 4-0 in Redskins last 4 vs. a team with a losing record.

  • Over is 6-1 in Redskins last 7 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.

  • Over is 9-2 in Redskins last 11 games after allowing less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game.

Betting trends for New York Giants :

  • Under is 5-0 in Giants last 5 games after allowing less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game.

  • Giants are 1-10 ATS in their last 11 games following an ATS win.

  • Giants are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games after allowing less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game
