Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

New Orleans Saints vs Minnesota Vikings

The New Orleans Saints will travel to TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for a battle versus the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night at 8:20 pm EST.  The Saints are coming off a momentum building win over the Baltimore Ravens by a 24-23 score as Drew Brees threw two touchdowns passes while Alvin Kamara chipped in another rushing touchdown to get the huge victory.  The Vikings were stellar on the road versus the Jets in their last time out as they picked up the 37-17 win with the defense being the tip of the spear in collecting three sacks and four turnovers while holding the Jets to only 71 rushing yards for the game.  The last time these teams met was on January 14, 2018 as the Vikings picked up the 29-24 home win while the Saints covered as 5.5 points road underdogs.  The over is 4-0-1 in the last five meetings in Minneapolis while the favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last five games amongst these teams.

New Orleans Saints's Latest Performance :

The Saints are in the top spot within the NFC South Division while coming off a huge win over Baltimore to where they received a gift in the form of Justin Tucker, kicker for the Ravens, who could not convert a PAT attempt after it seemed that the Ravens were about to tie the game with only :24 seconds remaining in the game.  Nonetheless, Drew Brees paced the Saints offense with two touchdown tosses while Michael Thomas put up 69 yards along with a TD catch in the win.  Alvin Kamara was also critical in the win as he collected 64 yards and a score for the Saints.  New Orleans last win marked the second time in their last three road games that they won by 5 points or less.  Nonetheless, they are 3-0 ATS on the road this season and will look to battle a Minnesota squad that certainly seems ready for the challenge.

Minnesota Vikings's Latest Performance :

Minnesota has shrugged off a shaky start to the season while winning three straight contests to where they are 3-0-1 ATS.  They were stellar in their matchup versus the Jets in their last time out as the offense was led by Kirk Cousins who threw for 241 yards and two scores along with Latavius Murray, who ended with 69 yards total with two touchdowns.  Adam Thielin stepped up for the receiving corps yet again in gaining 110 yards receiving on nine reception along with a TD.  The defense feasted on Darnold all night as they not only allowed New York only 263 total yards for the game, but, collected three sacks along with four turnovers for the game.  Darnold was pressured all day in throwing three picks along as he finished with only 206 yards in the contest.  Minnesota is allowing just 18 points per game to their opponents during their winning streak while the offense has heated up in averaging 29 points during this time.  Look for them to come into this game with just as much momentum as their opponents.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will be one of the more interesting games of the NFL slate this weekend.  The Saints and Vikings will be looking to expand their successful play recently while also maintaining their position atop of their respective divisions.  With that being the case, each team has passing attacks that rank in the top ten in the league, however, their pass defenses are average to below average (with the Saints being ranked 28th).  And while I will give the edge to the Vikings in having the better defense overall, one can never count out the Saints and Brees as they have certainly pulled out some exciting victories this year.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Minnesota Vikings -1

My reason for the pick :

I will back the home team in this instance because the Vikings defense is more equipped to handle a passing attack such as the one that they will match up against on Sunday night as they are ranked 16th in the league.  On the other hand, the Saints are ranked 26th in defending the pass.  Also, with the way that the Vikings have played lately, I happen to believe Cousins and company can outlast the Saints at home in what will be an exciting and high-scoring matchup.  In all, I will take the Vikings and the small point in this contest.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Over 52

My reason for the prediction :

As stated, with the Vikings and Saints not have the most solid pass secondary, I will back the over in this contest.  Besides, the over has been the play in four of the last six games for Minnesota while being the result in three of the last five games for the Saints.  Again, with the type of offense that each team possess, the over will be the most profitable pick in this game.

Betting trends for New Orleans Saints:

  • Saints are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall.

  • Saints are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games in Week 8.

  • Saints are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up win

Betting trends for Minnesota Vikings:

  • Over is 4-0 in Vikings last 4 games after allowing less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game.

  • Vikings are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after scoring more than 30 points in their previous game.
