Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Chicago Bears vs Buffalo Bills
The Chicago Bears will travel to new Era Field in Buffalo, New York, for a battle with the Bills in week nine NFL action beginning at 1 pm EST. The Bears are coming off a 24-10 home win over the struggling New York Jets last Sunday as Mitch Trubisky threw for two touchdowns while the rushing attack for the Bears collected 179 yards on the ground for the day. The Bills continued their horrible season by suffering a 25-6 home loss to the New England Patriots on Monday night as they only mustered 46 rushing yards for the game along with two field goals by Stephen Hauschka. The last time these teams met dates to September 7, 2014 as the Bills picked up the 23-20 road win in overtime in a tight game throughout. The Bears’ Robbie Gould tied the game at 20 all to force overtime, however, the Bears got a field goal in overtime by Dan Carpenter to seal the victory in a contest where Bills collected 193 yards rushing for the day yet giving up 341 yards in the air to the Jay Cutler and the Bears.
Chicago Bears's Latest Performance :
Mitch Trubisky threw for 220 yards with two TD’s while the rushing attack was paced by Jordan Howard with 81 yards and a score as the Bears racked up 395 yards on a Jets defense that had no answers for their balanced offensive attack. The Bears now find themselves atop the NFC North division as their offense continues to click to the tune of averaging 32 points in their last four outings. Trubisky has remained on fire in throwing 13 touchdown passes compared to only three interceptions during this time while Howard leads their 3rd ranked rushing attack with 392 yards this season while scoring a touchdown in his last two outings. The Bears also boasts the number eight scoring defense in the league in allowing just 20.6 points per game while ranking in the top 15 in every other major defensive category. They will certainly look to neutralize a Bills offense that has been plagued by QB related issues while having been dismal within the rushing attack as well.
Buffalo Bills 's Latest Performance :
The Bills’ Derek Anderson threw for 290 yards in Buffalo’s last loss at home to New England yet threw a pick six to seal the victory for the Patriots in the final period as the Bills scored under ten points for the third time in their last five games. The rushing attack only obtained 46 yards with Chris Ivory having 34 yards on six rushes while LeShon McCoy led the team in receiving with 82 yards on six receptions. Tom Brady led the Patriots with 324 yards total with Julian Edelman having 104 yards on nine receptions in the loss. And while the Bills had 95 return yardage for the game, they allowed the Patriots 102 yards for the contest. As stated, the Bills offense has been atrocious as they are averaging only 7.4 points per game in their last five games, overall.
On the other hand, their defense is allowing 23 points during this time while they failed to cover at home in three of four games this season (1-3 ATS). And while Buffalo ranks in the top 20 in every defensive category in 2018, they will now go up against a team in the Bears that are ranked in the top ten in points per game (28) along with rush yards per game (138). The Bills may find it difficult on offense as Chicago is opportunistic on defense in ranking 3rd in takeaways with 11 interceptions along with six fumble recoveries on the year.
How Chicago Bears & Buffalo Bills Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Chicago is 3-3 ATS while the OU is 4-2
Buffalo is 3-4 ATS while the OU is 2-5
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Bills season continues to free-fall at this point. On the other hand, the Bears essentially salvage the first half of their season with a convincing win over the NY Jets in their last time out. In all, I see no way that the Bills can score consistently in this matchup as the Bears will also find it difficult to move the ball versus a stout defense for Buffalo. With that being said, look for this to be a close matchup throughout while the Bears may just have the know how and talent to pull out a victory in this matchup, if only Trubisky continues to play well.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Chicago Bears -9
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Bears to come up with timely scores in which to pull out the win while covering in this matchup. After two losses, the Bears got back on the winning track versus the Jets in their last matchup and I expect them to carry this momentum into this contest in which to perform well enough to come out victorious. Buffalo’s offense continues to perform lousy at home while Anderson has not been the answer at QB. With that being the case, look for Buffalo to fall once again while falling short of covering to the NFC North’s top seeded Bears.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 37
My reason for the prediction :
I will back the under as a strong play in this contest as while the Bills offense has been horrible, as stated, their defense has tried their best in which to keep their team in games this year, to no avail. Also, the under has been the play in the last six games for Buffalo, thus allowing me to lean to the score not surpassing the total set for this game. Chicago has been up and down recently on offense yet due to their defensive play, have been able to continue to win games. Look for this to be a low scoring affair as Buffalo’s defense is very stout, however, due to lack of offensive output, often find their efforts to be all for naught at the end of the day. With that being said, look for the total to end just below its set limit for this contest.
