Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Detroit Lions vs Minnesota Vikings
The Detroit Lions will take to the road once again for the season this time to TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to face the Vikings on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm EST. The Lions are coming off a 28-14 home loss to the Seattle Seahawks in their last time out as Russell Wilson threw three TD passes in the second quarter en route to the win while the Vikings were 30-20 home losers to the Saints on Sunday night as they allowed four sacks along with two huge turnovers to where the Saints converted into seven points for the road team. The last time these two teams met was on November 23, 2017 as Minnesota picked up the 30-23 road win as Latavius Murray ran for 84 yards and a score while their passing game racked up 282 yards along with two passing touchdowns to get the much-needed win. Matt Stafford was sacked three times while throwing an interception in the contest. Under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings in Minnesota while the road team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings amongst these teams.
Detroit Lions's Latest Performance :
Minnesota could not get their offense going versus New Orleans on Sunday night as their running game only collected 85 yards on the ground with Murray having 56 yards and a score; However, Kirk Cousins threw for 359 yards along with two TD’s, yet threw a pick six in the contest that allowed the road team to go up 27-13 late in the third period. Cousins was also sacked four times in the contest while the Viking’s defense gave up 110 return yards to the Saints. Drew Brees threw for only 120 yards, a TD, and an INT in the game with Michael Thomas having five catches for 81 yards. The rushing game racked up 106 yards with Mark Ingram having 63 yards on 13 carries. The Vikings played well enough to win in this contest, however, turnovers and sacks would certainly hurt their chances in the end. They fell to second place within the NFC North division while their offense will look to shore up their rushing attack this weekend versus a Detroit Team that is allowing teams to punish them in the run all season.
Minnesota Vikings's Latest Performance :
Detroit was beginning to possess some momentum in winning three of four games, however, they took a huge step back in their last outing versus Seattle as their pass defense, which entered the game ranked 7th in the league, allowed three touchdown passes to Wilson in the second period while Detroit’s rush defense, ranked next to last in the league currently, gave up 176 yards on the ground with Chris Carson having 105 yards and a score as they suffered a huge 28-14 home loss while falling to last place within the NFC North division. And whereas the offense put up 30 or more points during their two-game winning streak, they only were allowed 14 points last Sunday as Stafford threw for 310 yards along with two touchdowns in the game, but, also threw an interception as well.
The Lion’s rushing attack only put up 34 yards total for the game as Kerryon Johnson rushed for only 22 yards on eight carries while Marvin Jones racked up 117 yards along with two touchdowns in the game. Things will not get much easier, schedule-wise, for the Lions as they will not only face Minnesota in their next matchup, but, will also face the top seeded NFC North Chicago Bears twice within the next few weeks in addition to Carolina followed by the undefeated Los Angeles Rams at home.
How Detroit Lions & Minnesota Vikings Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Detroit is 5-1 ATS while the OU is 5-1
Minnesota is 4-2-1 ATS while the OU is 4-3
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Minnesota and Detroit suffered deflating losses at home in their last matchups. With that being said, expect both teams to come out focused on getting a much-needed win in this contest. Combine this with the fact that division standings will be heavily dependent upon this matchup, look for them to pull out all the stops to get a victory. Detroit has had success versus the Vikings in the past, however, the Lions have been unable to stop the rushing attack for their opponents all year. On the other hand, their passing attack was torched by the Seahawks in their last game which will have the Vikings motivated in which to test their resolve in this matchup as well.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Minnesota Vikings -6.5
My reason for the pick :
Look for the Vikings to pull out a win in this matchup as Cousins and his receiving crops will look to have a solid passing day versus a Lions secondary that was manhandled by the Seahawks last weekend. On the other hand, with Detroit’s 31st ranked rush defense, expect Murray to have a solid day on the ground as well. Of course, Stafford and the passing game will put up some scores versus the Vikings early, however, the home team will take control of this game over time while cruising to the much-needed victory.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over (off)
My reason for the prediction :
The over has not only been the play in the last matchup amongst these teams, but, has also been the play in the last three road games for the Lions while also being the result in three of the last five games for the Vikings as well. Of course, with the Vikings averaging a tad under 30 points per game during their three-game winning streak prior to their loss to the Saints, they will look to build some confidence on offense versus a Detroit team that is likely to allow their dismal rushing attack to thrive throughout the game.

- Lions are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games in Week 9.
