Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Los Angeles Rams vs New Orleans Saints
The Los Angeles Rams will take to the road in week nine to battle the New Orleans Saints in an NFC showdown on Sunday afternoon at 4:25 pm EST at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Rams are coming off a tight one as they were able to take care of the Green Bay Packers in a game to which the Pack took the early lead, only to retake it after the Rams were up 10. Finally, the Rams got a 34-yard field goal from Greg Zuerlein to seal the victory and allowed LA to remain undefeated. The Saints were 30-20 road winners over the Vikings as their offense was not as explosive, yet their defense paved the way for the win in shutting down the Vikings rushing attack while scoring on a pick six in the win. These teams met last on November 16, 2017 as the Rams picked up the 26-20 home win as Jared Goff threw for 354 yards along with two scores while Todd Gurley rushed for 74 yards on 17 carries on the game. Drew Brees was held to 274 yards and a passing TD in the game while Alvin Kamara ended with a score along with 87 yards on only five carries.
Los Angeles Rams's Latest Performance :
While the Rams have run roughshod over the competition recently, they were in a dog fight versus Aaron Rodgers and the Packers last Sunday as the Packers jumped out to a 10-0 lead before the home team regained their footing in taking a 23-13 lead late in the third period. Nonetheless, Aaron Jones (86 yards, TD) along with Rodgers (286 yards, TD) bought Green Bay back by scoring on a touchdown run as well as a TD pass to Marquez Valdez Scantling, to give the Packers the lead with 8:50 remaining in the game. The Rams would then seal the game with a huge 34 yarder from Greg Zuerlein for the final score of the day. Jared Goff ended the game with 295 yards along with three TD’s Todd Gurley III finished with 114 yards in the game while also racking up 81 yards receiving with a pass TD. Gurley III did not score on the ground in this contest, but, has seven scores in the last four games, overall.
New Orleans Saints's Latest Performance :
New Orleans top ranked rush defense only allowed 85 yards on the ground for Minnesota with Latavius Murray having 56 yards and a score; However, Kirk Cousins threw for 359 yards along with two TD’s in the loss, yet threw a pick six in the contest that allowed the road team to go up 27-13 late in the third period. Cousins was also sacked four times in the contest while the Viking’s defense gave up 110 return yards to the Saints. Drew Brees threw for only 120 yards, a TD, and an INT in the game with Michael Thomas having five catches for 81 yards. Finally, the rushing game racked up 106 yards with Mark Ingram having 63 yards on 13 carries.
There was no looking ahead for the Saints in this matchup as they were solid on the defensive end while their offense, while not as explosive as usual, made plays in which to pull out a tough, hard-fought victory over a Vikings team that had recently found their mojo. The Saints remain atop the NFC South ahead of the Panthers and Falcons and will seek to pick up a huge victory at home versus the Los Angeles Rams, which have allowed just 19 points per game to their opponents while being ranked 3rd in points per game (33).
How Los Angeles Rams & New Orleans Saints Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Los Angeles is 4-3 ATS while the OU is 3-4
Seattle is 4-2 ATS while the OU is 3-3
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will certainly be a heavy weight fight amongst two teams that are both looking to gain the inside track in the NFC standings as the season progresses. In other words, the winner may well gain home field advantage during the playoffs. With that being said, look for the focus and intensity to be there from start to finish. New Orleans only loss of the season came at home to the Tampa Bay Bucs in week one. Since, they are 2-0 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium as their last home game was on October 8th, a 43-19 win over the Washington Redskins. And while the Rams have dominated all season long, their win margin on the road is only 13 points as they have had some scares; Nonetheless, their resiliency has really impressed.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: New Orleans Saints (PK)
My reason for the pick :
I will pick the Saints in this matchup as they have truly been able to stop the run this year. And with the Rams relying heaving on their top ranked rushing attack with Gurley to set the pace with his punishing running style, expect the top ranked rush defense in the Saints to really show and prove in this outing as they have done all season. Also, look for home field advantage to be key in this matchup as the Saints will certainly have a raucous crowd on hand to cheer on their team. With that being the case, expect them to really get after the Rams in this contest while pulling out a slim victory in what will serve as a prelude to yet another potential matchup down the road.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
While both teams have very dominating offenses, I will pick the under in this contest with the Saints having the top ranked rush defense while the Rams have a defense that ranks in the top 15 in every major defensive category. Of course, both teams will put some points on the board, particularly the Rams, as the Saints rank near the bottom in defending the pass; However, the Saints will certainly be a test for the defensive unit for the Rams as Drew Brees and company will indeed move the ball throughout. Nonetheless, with so much on the line, expect for this to be a defensive matchup to where they will control the line of scrimmage for much of the game as the total will indeed remain low.
